I dont have Netflix. How did they misrepresent camming in the series?

She only touched on camming in one episode so not camming exactly but just her outlook on the porn industry in general. She never paints a sex positive light in these documentaries she plays a negative narrative in both films. It's her way of "Wake Up America" because we as a country are "over sexualizing" everything in the media.
Which is very true, it always has been. To place this negative light over top of a industry that already gets enough of it from the world isn't helping. It puts a more negative image in the minds of those outside of this industry which in turn just puts sex workers more at risk in their home life. The misrepresentation comes from when you only show one outlook. Like I said originally, if they would have given each topic their own documentary 1-2 hours to be more inclusive in showing both positive and negative sides it could have been ok.

http://www.refinery29.com/2017/04/150231/hot-girls-wanted-turned-on-netflix-recap-teen-porn Sounds like it is worth a look, and not overly biased, the episodes not related to cam models look interesting. It doesn't look like they captured the average user of any of these technologies either side of the screen, but that is to be expected.

Looks like they didn't go into it with a clear message to send, but more of an explanation of the type of technologies used, and how we use them.

Honestly this is what I want in a camgirl doc. They want to paint it in their light, but there is just so much more. Yes it's from their point of view. But it's our business. Also it's our consent we give to do this job. We actually do a lot more good then harm if they took their bias'd blinders off.

I just want only sex workers to make these kinds of documentaries, tbh

A friend in the film had me watch this a few years back before I started camming. I haven't watched it sense but I remember it being positive. Im going to rewatch it tonight now that it is free on Vimeo. It use to cost money to watch it.

I kind of wish they just didn't do any documentaries on webcamming. They're never neutral. I mean, if someone just wants to find out more about camgirls they could like... hang around MFC a while or here or buy some shows on Streamate. Chit chat with some studio girls on Livejasmin. We're not a weird mystery.

The creator of the camgirlz documentary has made a lot of positive alternative lifestyle docs. American Juggalo is probably my favorite of his. By far the most interesting and best one liners.

Florida Man is great too. If you live in rural central Florida. Check it out. It was canny to see a my husband's family friend in it.

Yeah, it is kind of funny when we're treated as some sort of enigma when our job is being a completely accessible personality with a chat room. Once you consider how much social media most camgirls are on it's like....what exactly is mysterious about this, again?

I think a lot of people want a behind-the-scenes look, which is fair (and so much more dull than they can imagine, tbh) and they aren't camgirl chatters so to them this is new and mysterious/exciting. Plus, our job is also to be entertaining, and as "educational" as this stuff is, we all know it's just pure entertainment.

I haven't gotten to the camming episode yet but the first 4 episodes I've watched so far I was actually pleasantly surprised by. Especially the first episode. I thought it was pretty cool they brought up some issues that are also heavily discussed within our industry as well, such as the issue of heavy racism in porn, and how hard in can be to be a black performer without being fetishized.

I think plagiarism and stealing content is my own personal pet peeve that stems from my xanga getting reposted by someone else claiming the writing was theirs so when I heard the things being posted around twitter today, I was really angry. I only watched the last 2 episodes of the season because I wanted to skip right to the camgirl stuff. I am not okay with them using images of the sites and the girls without their permission, but the camgirl episode was really offputting to me because it was all about one that met one of her members. It doesn't represent the large portion of the industry that isn't going to end up doing that, so I thought it was a little weird. Like did they put her up to that? Did they specifically want to film/interview a camgirl that was planning to or up for meeting a member in person? I just want to know the backstory on that personally because I am curious. It didn't really show much of what being a camgirl is really like, or even the general type of experience a viewer would get. That's just my take on it, but personally I'd have gone a different direction with it. I still think Camgirlz is a better doc if anyone is ever interested in recommending something to a friend or family member who wants to learn more about the industry.

Yeah, that aspect of it was really...contrived. Like, however it goes it's going to give a weird perception of the community. o_O

I refuse to go to conventions just on the fear of having to interact with customers face to face. If this was a real documentary they would know we are a bunch of sexy shut-ins. :p

In episode three they focused a lot on Bailey Rayne, and it included a very real look at a professional and successful camgirl who also dabbles in other work like manyvids and recruiting. She was inspiring as heck.

Check out CamGirlz
Camming seen without all the drama of say a BBC Camgirl series (there have been a few); I found it far more elegant to watch.

btw: Slappy demonstrated Haematospermia perfectly, you still finish with a massive smile, even if you bust a nut.

Them showing a meeting between a model and a member is extremely misleading.
We all know that 99.9 percent of models would be unwilling to meet a member( at least outside of a convention.) Additionally, there are certainly many members ( such as me) who would not feel comfortable with meeting a model.

From what I read about 'Turned On', the result of that meeting is as awkward as you may expect. From the quotes I read, the responses to that meeting seemed pretty typical of what I would expect. Model friends say similar things to me at times, so am definitely curious to see it.

In its favour I do think that removing the screen between model and member who have chatted for 4 years, is quite a revealing thing to do. Meeting strips away the fantasy, for a documentary this is quite appropriate.
I doubt they will suggest it is typical for member/ model to meet. They will want to expose what goes on beyond the cam interaction by showing a meeting.

I agree that most models and many members have no interest in meeting beyond curiosity. I always fantasize about inviting models I like, along with their partners, to various cocktail parties around the world: There's a few models I really would love to introduce to each other.

More models are saying they appear in the new series without their consent, and apparently Hot Girls Wanted even shows some model's REAL NAMES and their personal facebook pages! WTF :wtf: This just keeps getting worse. I encourage more people to email Netflix with your disapproval!

This is only a bit on topic with this thread, but quite a few months ago I received an email from a producer (not sure if it regarded this film or another) but they wanted me to be in it, and explore the life of a camgirl behind the scenes/everyday life etc. Also knew that I met my boyfriend on a cam site and wanted to feature us due to the way we met etc.

I would love to be in a movie/show, however, like those other girls. My bf and I don't need to be outed to the general community, especially since I live in the bible belt in a tiny ass town.

My sentiments exactly. Bailey really has her act together, while retaining her humanity. She acts as a older sister to the new girls and tries to help them out, while the guys are mostly just out for the money. Bailey explains her motivations, "after college I had teaching job where I started at 20K and my students loans wouldn't be paid off until 46, now I make 8 times that a year." Of the three girls they portrayed Bailey is super successful, Salena Storm seems to be doing well, and Bonnie is having trouble with drugs. This seemed pretty balanced to me.

Actually, that's not true. At any given time roughly a 1/3 of the top 100 models have a date raffle and they are often immensely popular. I thought the portrayal of the meeting was pretty accurate from the members side. Of the ~10 guys, including myself, that have won date raffle, or paid for model meetings that I've talked to about the experience, every member expressed a similar sentiment to the guy, "Approximate" in the show.

"I'm really nervous, but I'm excited, I know nothing more is likely to happen than date, but damn it would be great if it did.' In most, but not all cases nothing happened. Approximate, may have been more obsessed than most of the members, but judging by the large number of threads on "I'm in love with a camgirl, I think she loves me I'm going to fly to Europe to meet her.", I'd say there are plenty of guys even more delusional.

Now I can't speak for how models feel, (that's why I'm on the forum), but either the model, Alice, is an oscar-worthy actress, or she had genuine feelings for Approximate. I sure have read lots of post by models say they do have real feeling for their favorite members. It was a bit unusual for her to fly to meet the guy instead of the other way around, but I think that's because she was excited about meeting him also.

Approximate said "I'm socially awkward in simple situations, and this is really complicated". To me that's one of the most interesting things about the model/member relationship. It starts with sex (virtual) and then evolves into a friendship, often over an extended period of time. This is bassackwards from most real life relationship. I thought the show did a good job portraying the weird world of relationship in camming.

Wellllll, actually that's not true. You cannot have offer outside contact on Cams or Streamate. So... 1/3 of the top models on ALL sites don't have date raffles, just MFC (and to some extent CB).
Also, that's bad math. How does 33 models on MFC offering date raffles translate to what @Guy said being untrue? That's a really small percentage of models offering to potentially meet members.

Now if you're just speaking as to members feeling comfy meeting models, that's another thing entirely.
