I know I'm going to be offensive but this sounds like an american problem.
I don't see any trouble (or in some countries, getting worse) for those outside of the states.

I really don't think things r going to change any time soon unless trump get back into power and listens to the bible belt.
And let's be honest alot of the people who say porn should be banned secretly enjoy it.

We’re probably a couple of generations off legislators catching up with digital content creation and tech.

If it even ever happens at all.

I’m not holding my breath.

I think with the bloom of every Nancy, Rachel and Jennifer creating an onlyfans was indeed detrimental to the industry in that way where it they created an illusion of it being easy money. And who isn't jealous of others making easy money?

What the common Joe does not understand though, is that even if the Rachel next door got her toesies out on the internet, she may not after all be making all that easy cash that you think she is.

The real hard workers, the true OF professionals, who actually make a living at this have to work hard for their money - and I think that is what the common Joe fails to see.

On the other hand - maybe it has done some good in de-stigmatising online sex work? Since every Nancy, Rachel and Jennifer are doing it, maybe it is not viewed as such a big deal anymore?

And one more after thought - do we think that so many inexperienced creators have brought down the quality of porn overall? I speak for myself - my content is far from professional! But then, is it also becoming more realistic when its not all just beautiful, professional actors creating porn?

I dunno - just a few rambling thoughts to add to this pot.

I think the rise in popularity to almost ubiquitousness is a double-edged sword: it has de-stigmatised it amongst certain demographics (those who are either customers or creators (or potential creators), but also it has pushed it in the faces as it were of the so-called "Moral majority" who now cannot ignore it and feel morally duty-bound to do something about this heinous sin of the flesh.

As to people seeing the popularity of OF and thinking "easy money" yes that is an "issue" also. As an example: some time ago my niece casually remarked that she should start a page with foot photos. The implication was that she'd just take some snaps and sit back and rake in the money. All this merely because some random dudes on web forums she frequents had asked her for foot photos! Please note that given my age, my niece is a full grown woman (older than most of the models here I suspect) and as such is not a naive young person.

@Marceline you raise many valid points, but I don't see OnlyFans as causing any of those problems.

As a business person, clip sites and OnlyFans seem like a smart way to do business because they create annuity streams, and you can control when and how you work without requiring regularly scheduled performances. By comparison, cam sites are hellishly difficult work. You have to put up with rude hecklers who never tip. You have to put up with people who threaten you constantly. And then you have to constantly work to just keep money coming in. There is very little annuity there. OnlyFans is not the cause of most problems in the porn industry; it is just an alternative business model.

Many of the points you make are valid:

* FOSTA/SESTA is a nothing more than a cynical authoritarian move to put a death grip on sex workers. It did not protect the people it claimed to protect, and it did allow government to exercise censorship over many parts of the industry. That's not about OnlyFans, and those laws were secretly just motivated by people who hate sexual positivity and sexual freedom of choice.

* Ultra conservatives - particularly religious conservatives - want to ban porn That's been true from the beginning and OnlyFans is not the start or cause of that. That's also never going to happen, even if Republicans hold office. It's a political speech made to just appeal to a segment of voters, with no chance of becoming law.

* Users try to join porn sites as soon as they are of legal age, without understanding risks. That I totally agree with, and even if it is legal I think 18 is probably too young. But most of the worst risks are on cam sites, where some viewers are recording every performance and putting those on scammy websites where the content never gets removed. Russian models constantly deal with blackmailers and search engines that can use their modeling photos to connect to their real world social media profiles. OnlyFans is not a cause of any of that and arguably has less risk for the models than cam sites. The worst problem here is that cam sites are not informing new workers about risks.

I think the real soul crusher is that we are all increasingly living in an authoritarian jail. That's not a Republican or Democrat issue. They both equally participate in a bureaucracy where it is actually corporations - and organizations of career bureaucrats who assist corporations - that call all of the shots. Everything is just military-industrial complex and Big Pharma. Elections are just about hiring a new set of actors to keep the little people occupied with hating each other instead of seriously understanding what is happening to the country.

COVID just gutted me. It wasn't the disease itself that crushed me, but all of the things that happened from 2020 until now that made me realize that the US is increasingly becoming unfree. My eyes have been opened and I can't unsee. After learning that the CIA and FBI actively managed what posts were allowed to be seen on Twitter, I look at cam sites and wonder whether every private moment on these sites is being recorded by governments all over the world, and what was supposed to be an exercise in sexual positivity has just become another extension of creeping authoritarianism.

Well I agree with most of that.
It isn't just russian girls who get blackmailed, I know a French and Italian lady had it too. But blackmailers do target Russians and other girls in countries where webcaming nudity for $ isn't legal.

Unfortunately it isn't even just webcam models. Literally today on uk news there's a sick fuck who's on trial for blackmailing underage girls on webcam, and I know this isn't the first person arrested for doing this in the uk.
A couple of girls I know in the real world have also told me that there's a local forum/site where guys post and share photos/vids of local girls, be it from dating them or finding them on onlyfans.
Its an Internet and people being cunts problem.

Again where perhaps websites/studios aren't telling girls about difficulties and problems that might pop up isn't just webcam but porn in general. I watched a documentary with louis theroux where when he met the co -head of a porn agency said she don't tell the girls what the porn industry is really like because 80% of them wouldn't do it in the end (boy I don't think anyone on this forum would have issue calling this woman a cunt considering how she talks about the girls)

Tbh I'm not surprised that various law agencies keep an eye on webcam sites. There's a reason why russian girls suddenly stopped making public jokes/criticism about putin after the main Ukraine invasion.

As I said before I still see onlyfans and sites like it doing more good then harm for those who want to make money from getting naked.
It's just the younger you are, the less likely that you think of negative consequences and people exploit that.

Christ, I ended up being social acquaintances with a girl who sells pics/vids of herself on Snapchat (she don't hide this on her social media) and I've offered her advice/warnings if she ever does webcam. As it is she was a bit naive about selling herself (she fell for the i'll pay you later).

Blackmailers would target anyone anywhere if they could find them. What makes the lives of Russian models tougher is that there is a Russian search engine that uses facial recognition software to connect the photos of Russian models during their performances to Russian social media profiles, and unfortunately it works quite well. So there is a cottage industry of sociopaths who use that to find Russian models in the real world. You cannot do that easily for models outside of Russia/Ukraine.

Most of the rest of your post is a topic change. The original post was about whether OnlyFans was bad for the industry. There have always been sex criminals. I would argue that webcam sites give those people more outlets so they commit fewer crimes. But in any case, OnlyFans is not the cause of that behavior, nor does it make it worse.
