Yeah it really feels like certain words just seem to appear in everyday use one day, and then get completely overdone, until everyone gets sick of them and they disappear again.
On a related note, this reminded me of a time years ago when I shared an office with one of the most arrogant, pompous and conceited people I'd ever met.
He truly enjoyed making himself feel superior to everyone around him, and one way he did this was through language.
He kept a Thesaurus in his desk drawer, and I noticed that every morning as he drank his coffee, he would look through the book to seek out a new and unusual word.
He would then drop that word into 'casual' conversation throughout the day, and watch people feeling uncomfortable as they weren't sure what it meant.
After some time observing this, my dislike of him grew to the point that one day, I just spoke a sentence containing a whole bunch of words that I made up on the spot.
I saw him scrambling to pick up his beloved Thesaurus, and flip through it trying to figure out what I'd said. As the puzzled look on his face slowly changed to realisation, he looked up at me and slowly nodded.
I never saw the pompous git do that word thing again.
