I do a similar blend only I've started using blackberries instead of blueberries and I throw in a couple carrots and kale.

I had it with a shot of vodka yesterday. I think it's my new favourite alcoholic beverage :)

About an hour ago my roomy showed up with a burger and LG shake. First food like that in a few weeks now and never realized just how bloated and heavy it makes me feel. The eating was good I guess, but I really don't like so much how I feel now. There just may be something to this eating good.

There is that thing about ' something, something, loves company' so there's that. Thing is I am always left wondering if ppl think it goes unnoticed, just b/c I don't say anything? (Yes your right, perhaps I should start saying something.) I wonder also, if odd, is so easily confused with stupid? ;)

I finally started back up at the gym today. Holy fuck. It's been about six months since I've been. I used to stay for about two hours and burn off around 1000 calories. I lasted less than an hour today before waving the white flag (towel?) having burnt off a meagre 250 calories.
What made it worse is there's this really hot new girl working there so every time she walked by my mannish pride kicked in and I had to pretend like I'd barely broken a sweat and start pedalling/rowing/stepping faster and harder than I otherwise would have done - you know, just to keep up the appearance that I'm a machine-like picture of ultimate fitness and stamina - which only made things more tiring.
I am now thoroughly knackered.

You know, one has to keep their post per day #'s high if they ever wish to make the big board, but regardless, I had to comment on this one. it is, one of those post, that is so perfectly identifiable. I think every guy, and maybe every girl, can say, yeah, I know that feeling, that thing of rising to a higher level for appearances, and in the possess betting ourselves up. Us humans are funny beast.

Did I sound bitter? I'm sorry. Yes my exact thoughts JJ. And I guess I let this sort of sabotage get to me, b/c though no one was responsible for my drug habit but ME, I chose more than once to break my abstinence from drugs after someone posing as a friend offered me the equivalent to a cheese burger and lg shake.

Gym was much easier today. Still only managed to burn off 400 calories but being able to burn off 1000 like I used to no longer seems like an impossibility. Just need to build up to that.

Also, the juice I'm drinking now is pretty bad-ass.

Apples
Pineapple
Carrots
Ginger

Hey, cam, I just wanted to see if you'd gotten your juicer yet? Last I'd heard was that they were supposed to send it out on the 16th? I think. If you did get it are you enjoying it so far?

Wow, I'm flattered. Yes I just picked it up from my father's house Sat. evening. My first Juice experience with it was sorta interesting, (well as interesting as Juicing might be.) I am so excited about starting the 100% juice fast, that I did just that last night. No more anything, but what I put through that juicer from here til Aug./23. (Has anyone tried juicing pizza, or ice cream? )

I will write a post with some pics a little later, to doc. the fast start.

I did a bad thing. I got a leaflet through the door today for Papa John's pizza - Buy One Get One Free, yo - and, I'm ashamed to say I was seduced by its sultry charms.

But now, having ate half a pizza, I feel fuller than I ever have done. I might give some to the dog. It keeps on staring at it.

I juiced only for about 3 days, then succumbed to the need for solid food. That was the end of my "fast."

In the ~3 weeks since I got my juicer, though, I have been eating a heck of a lot better. Still Juicing 3-4 times a week (which is a lot from a guy who prior to this never ate vegetables unless they were a pizza topping). I've cut out all junk food, all fast food (except one Pizza Hut and beer day), and all sweets. Cut out most meat, too, except fish.

So while I failed on the fast, I guess it's been a good thing overall- I'm certainly eating healthier. I've even lost a few pounds (though nothing dramatic like in the video).

So, OK, after picking up the juicer at my dad's, and having to suppose maybe he would be right, that the juicer would not be used beyond two weeks, before it was shelved like is so often the case with such items, I proceeded to make the grocery store loop. I had hoped to only make one stop at Trader Joe's, but i hadn't been by in a few weeks, so nothing had been set aside for me. No problem, Safeway was just a mile up the road, and being the weekend there were bound to be 2or3 loaded pallets of expired perishables out back. If Ed happened to come out on one of his many smoke breaks and catch me, I would have to have one with him and shoot the shit for a bit. That would be fine, I wasn't in a real big hurry, and this time maybe I would have the will power and the heart to tell him I quite smoking close to 6 months ago. Well, there were 3 food pallets lined up right in a row against the fence, with pallets of milk crates lined up right along side them. Murphy could not be off playing golf somewhere, or busy with other folk, no, he was there, right where he always is, displacing the angel on one shoulder, and egged on by the devil from the other. The pallet I could get too was the one from Wednesday or Thursday, and all I could salvage from it was a pretty fresh, but ugly cantaloupe, an equally ugly mini watermelon, several bunches of leaks, and three large bags of baby carrots. Everything that wasn't ugly was too old and had been sitting in the sun for 2or3 days. The ugly stuff is always the freshest, b/c it never even makes the produce aisle. Off the truck and right around out the back door, b/c consumers would rather eat week old pretty produce, than day old ugly stuff. I thought about grabbing the pallet jack and jockeying some things around so I could get at the fresher back pallets, but looking over and seeing that Ed's truck was not in its spot, I thought better. At one point a few years back there wasn't a part time curtsey clerk who didn't know me, and know I was gold, but i hadn't been around much in the last few years. I didn't like the thought of having to grovel down to some 24 year old simpering jack ass floater from the other side of the county who was set on making regional warehouseman of the month. I wasn't sure i could grovel, and the alternative could lead to bigger problems.

Now I just wanted to get home and start my juicing. Besides Smart & final, was not too far, always good for apples, oranges, and bananas and on the way back, - sorta.

Well here's what S&F offered up, cold as could be. A minuet sooner I could have meet em at the back door and saved the walk to the dumpster.

I have found a good home for most of it, and will keep a few packages of the ground turkey that I can freeze and use to supplement the dogs food. Not a single piece of fruit though. So, back home, I opened one of the huge bags of baby carrots - Tossed in five large hand fulls, added a bunch of leaks, the whole cantaloupe, which gave me a very full pitcher of juice.

I have set off, ill prepared, yet underway none the less. I have no currency until the 29th, so if I want to drink something other than straight carrot juice, (and i do), before then, I need to get my hustle on. Trader's said they would have some produce for me tonight. Carrots and leaks might not be so bad. Carrots and cantaloupe, is not so bad as lets say, root beer flavored barium, or unleaded gasoline, but it is not the best combination.

Oh, and 237 is where I'm setting off from, hoping to make < 200.
I think 180 is about ideal, but I have always been a little thick even when I was well fit.... Yea, i'm laughing with ya. :-D

Oh, and never put the leavings/pulp in the waste disposal. I plugged up my sink twice before I learned.

If you have a garden, the pulp makes great mulch or compost.

Another use: throw some of the pulp into baked goods like cakes...makes an "unhealthy" cake rich in fiber. :)

Any natural ingredient, egg shells, potato skins, unused salad etc makes compost, however a good compost needs to be mixed with sand and dirt for 60 to 90 days :? you'd need to watch out the rats.

Putting pulp in baked delights is yummy so yeah many ways to recycle, eat fiber and be healthy. It is however costly and takes time, so if anyone is busy it will be as much time consuming as actually cooking.

As far as the brands are concerned, I am really not familiar with brands. However, it might seem better to invest in a good quality product that lasts rather than have to change it every other month, specially if you use it a lot.

So we're in end June now, did you get it? Which one you got? How is it working out?

Oh never mind i just saw the last post :D Keep it up..!!

While I was supplementing my juicing with one small meal a day with the possibility of a snack I think I'm going to have to switch to full juicing for a while. I'm on so many pain killers and muscle relaxers on top of my hypothyroidism that my metabolism has slowed to the point that every little thing I eat is causing me to gain weight. As well as..er...getting stuck in the pipes... :?

Since I don't have much of a choice but to stay on the pain killers until my evaluation in mid July I think juicing is the best option to keep me from having serious weight gain or worse. I just need some ideas on a source of protein that won't leave me feeling heavy.

If you can handle the taste, just mix an egg with any of the fruits you usually like. Feel better..!! :)

Well, Trader's did me pretty well. They had a bunch of leafy veggies, Spinach, Swiss chard, and some other greens, but didn't think I wanted that sort of stuff? so it had already been dumped. What they did have was Raspberries, some figs, Raspberries, apples, Raspberries, some green figs, Raspberries, some Strawberries, Raspberries, celery, and some more Raspberries. I am not sure what combos I might try but I think it will be something, or something, something, and Raspberries. Also there was a package of shelled soy beans. They look like they might make a little juice? well if not, they will compost faster if ground to bits.

And of course every one knows what this signifies, right?

Think, very bad, musically inspired, joke.

You definitely need to add some fiber intake to your diet. I don't want to scare you or anything, but my sister-in-law's dad died from complications of a lower GI blockage. He was on opiate-type pain killers for a chronic condition, and to top it off he wasn't eating properly, or at all. So he basically died from constipation that was brought on by the pain meds.

2 easy ways to address this: psyllium husk or flax seeds. I prefer flax seeds, because if you consume milled/ground flax seeds, you get an added benefit of ingesting some essential fatty acids and heart healthy omega-3 components. Be sure to increase your water intake if you go either of these routes :)

Does anyone else's juicer... smell a bit? I mean, I clean it every day but there still seems to be this musty smell that lingers. I'm still talking about my juicer by the way... :?

I wouldn't use that machine until you can eliminate the odor, you could be drinking that! It could very well be residue that is causing the smell. If you are absolutely sure you are breaking it down all the way, there may be some nooks and crannies that you are missing. You may need a bottle brush to get at them, if that's the problem. I don't know your make/model, or if it's dishwasher safe or not, so you might check on the internet to see if anyone else has this issue with your particular machine.

You could also try giving everything a soak in hot water & soap for 30 minutes or so, then do the normal cleaning. Another thing to try is the standard food service 3-compartment process: soap, sanitize, rinse. The sanitize is just a soak in a bleach solution for a few minutes. You find this all over the web, but it shouldn't be more than a cap full of bleach in a basin of hot water.

Worst case scenario: the plastic parts have absorbed "aromas" from your "stuff", or "stuff" leaked into the motor housing. If that's the case, take it back and get a different model. Good luck!

Why thank ya, sir. I shall try all of the above. With any luck it just needs to be sanitized :)

Time to juice. My gut feels a bit angry, that i subjected it to carrot/cantaloupe juice and have refused to send anything solid in after. It is sort of knotted up like used to happen right before a big race.

Just had a random thought...
Does anybody live near any semi arid areas where Aloe vera or prickly pear grows ? Here it can be found many many places growing wild. Prickly pear is not bad as a jam or cooked in some things and Aloe has long been consumed as an "inner workings digestion aid".

There were Prickly pear growing all around Austin if you looked a little. My room mate a native Navaho who grew up on a reservation in NM Used to make mini pizzas, by getting a roll of biscuits, and roll the hell out of them with an old fashion rolling pin, til they were about 6" across, a smear of Ragu some cheese and what ever we could find. A lot of the time that included strips of the meat cut from the skinned cladodi ?(I think is what the leaf or hand ((No that's bananas)) part is called), but any way it had a taste like nothing else, as most everything does, (poss exceptions - chicken imitators), so it took about half a mini pizza to get used to it, but i liked it. Some time it was the only thing we had, but we always had that b/c the cacti grows year round.
