I guess I disagree because the music industry was thriving before pirating.
I wont claim to know very much, but I can speculate on some points
Didn't record labels used to take most of that money?
Prior to the internet the only mainstream platforms were traditional media (like tv and radio) didn't you need a record label?
With the internet, bands and musicians have a platform where they can independently find their own success
As @SaffronBurke said, streaming services are popular now and help avoid piracy by making it easy to get what you want (not that I think they pay particularly well to the artists from what I've heard)
I don't know if my view is different because I'm so close to career travelling musicians vs. hobby musicians and comparing the two is probably like comparing girls dancing at a rave to cam girls.
That's a fair point, but I'm pretty sure id feel 100% the same if I was a professional musician
