flexing my mousing wrist and soaking my clicking fingers in a soothing bath of ginseng and aloe before I take on today's challenge :violence-blades:

I've been in a slump the last couple days, I was actually catching up to Fenix and Comrade for a bit before it started.

Cool idea, just had a go and got off to a very lucky start (at least 3 were total guesses lol).

Fun quiz, hadn't realised it was time based (didn't slow down to read much on this post or the info page, obviously).

Looking forward to making this a daily habit :)

Wow so 3 of you got an obscure question about who won an australian rugby league championship 12 years ago? Google much? :p

I'll admit to a SWAG on that question...

Just bumping this back up the queue since the next monthly round starts in 3 days (or 4 depending on where in the world you are).

It's a lot of fun peeps, try it in the next couple of days to see if you enjoy it and then you can join us all for August.

The leaderboard is really close at the moment. I like to think I'd be up there if I hadn't missed a few days, but considering how the last few days have gone for me, probably not :p .

But, it's not whether you win or lose, it's how much fun you have playing the game. Come join us!

(And kudos again to Bocefish for setting the group up).

congrats to morment for the month, time to start again and this time i must remember to play.

also, is it time we had different subjects? new month etc

I wouldn't mind seeing History or Literature in there.

And I have to say it feels good being 1st instead of 2nd this time around.

Congrats to Morment for the July win!

I'm good with the categories you added...if Geography and People were added in the future, I wouldn't complain. Go ahead and add religion if you want to see a lot of 1/10's from me...lol.

Ok I know we had this discussion a little while ago but I still feel (some of) the quizzes are too easy.

Last month for example wasn't so much a test of who knew the most, but who could click the fastest!

Even look at yesterday's scores - 10 people played. 4 of those 10 got a score of 10, another 4 scored 9, and the last two scored 7. The points distributed for each person just comes down to reaction time.

I read the questions thoroughly, probably too thoroughly, but the amount of time I take to read a question has ZERO to do with whether or not I know the answer out of a possible 4.

I think the quizzes are probably timed to penalize someone from using google or whatever, but someone who gets 10 out of 10 in 75 seconds certainly didn't have time to google anything, yet someone who gets 10 out of 10 in 35 seconds isn't any more knowledgeable they just have the reactions of a 12 year old korean starcraft player.

That's why I think the quizzes should be much more difficult - we won't all get 10s and 9s every day, but it will actually be about knowledge instead of speed.

Blast, trying to remove schlmoe's only advantage! I have a highly developed clicky finger coupled with a hair-trigger mouse.

Seriously, I see this as similar to typing...speed and accuracy. Almost every quiz game show is based on this. If speed wasn't factored in somehow, there would be a lot of draws, and no prizes awarded.

Let's look at July: the top 5 were separated by 9 points, that is a tad more than a quarter point per day. Remove speed from the equation, what do you get? Look at your and my scores: both tied with 230 points, I had 5 wins, and you had 1. So, speed actually helped you, and it's my opinion that "daily wins" are not weighted enough (no offense, Jup).

I do not necessarily think we need harder quizzes/questions, but I think we need more categories (added for this month), so we don't have the same questions popping up in the same month. I am pretty sure I saw that. My suggestion is that more categories are added to prevent this and maybe doing a mid-month shuffle (if possible). New/more categories would also level the playing field by playing to strengths and weaknesses. I'm not looking forward to Sunday's quiz (Literature), as the only reading I do is the nutritional labels on beer cans. We do not need "harder" quizzes in general, because that will chase away the casual player and new regular players. A new player stumbling on the site and hits a hard day...2 out of 10...probably won't come back. If they get a few more, and see that tomorrow's quiz looks "easy", they might come back. That is what's going to make this better...more casual day players, turn a few into regs. The scoring curve will be increased, higher margin for error...will make for an interesting EOM. (IMO)

As far as my "real" advantage, I'll admit to being a fast reader...just something I was born with. I also pre-game with exactly 1.5 cups of coffee and 2 puffs off the e-cig. Then I put the monitor in "picture" mode (no scrolling), and away we go. I feel (and like) the pressure of the timer, and rarely change an answer. That's where the time factor keeps me honest.

I wish I had the reaction speed of a 12 year old korean starcraft player, if I did, I'd rack up the daily wins like crazy. Unfortunately, it's common knowledge that all the schlmoes are descended from one common ancestor:

Yeah that's true, but the monthly win is based on average points per game I think - I rarely win the day but I'm usually very consistent while some others have fantastic days then shit ones, I usually just have generally decent ones.

Fair enough about the difficulty then, I just feel like when the difference between 1st and 4th place each day is a matter of completing the quiz 15 seconds faster it's less about knowledge than twitch reflex.

Either way, I look forward to it every day, I even have a macro on my keyboard to take me to the daily quiz page :p

I meant to say this on the previous post: This game, like most TV quiz shows, are not necessarily about knowledge and twitch reflex. My take is that they are a measurement of the speed that the player can retrieve the little bits of information. In my case, it's something I was born with...similar to my quick reading gift.

For me, if this was real knowledge, I would be more successful IRL...although I have won prizes (trip to Hawaii) and numerous bar bets with this recall "gift".

It is fun, and I look forward to it each day (except for the Literature day...lol), and the competition makes it even more so.
