Stray kitty questions

After a few failed missions, she finally led my husband to exactly where she has the kittens. They're in the neighbor woman's locked shed, and she enters and exits through a hole in the roof. Pretty brilliant. My husband is trying now to talk to the woman again. Not sure that's a great idea. Ugh.

Well, at least they are safe in there... but hopefully you can get them out or those kittens are going to be super feral by the time the are old enough to jump out through the roof...

If she refuses and you are serious about getting those kittens out, you can call the police and tell them that she stole your cats. Like I said, just say that the mama cat got outside after you adopted her and brought her in, and she had her kittens on your neighbor's property and she's not letting you have your cats and kittens back.

If it comes to that, though, you should go get a collar and tag and try to get it on mama cat. Usually the police will make the person let you get your things... but on the small chance they don't, they might tell you that you have to file a lawsuit against her if it can't be proven they belong to you, just threaten to sue the lady and she'll probably concede.

I hope your hubby can talk some sense into this lady. There was probably too much commotion in your carport for the cat to be comfortable nesting there. :/ Silly cats.

My only experience with feral cats was when they chose our home. Other than that, my neighbors have been REALLY GOOD about the last few litters they had in their yard, and we think all the neighborhood cats are finally spayed. Except the elusive Dottie... This cat is funny... she only ever had one litter, she never lets any person near her, and she is SO FAST... I know cats are fast, but she is SO FAST.

She locked the door and wouldn't talk to the animal control guy. He checked out the shed and said the kittens probably can't live in there very long. So, he left a note asking for her to call. If she doesn't call them, they will come back in a few days.

My ex-mother-in-law had a mature female cat as a pet, then she got a new, younger female. The new cat instantly fell in love with the older cat. Unfortunately, the feeling was not reciprocated. (hiss, snarl, whap, etc) after a week of keeping the two cats separate, she fill a bucket with tepid water and vinegar, and dipped each cat in this solution. After drying them lightly, she put them together in an extra bedroom. They became tolerant, and, after a few days best pals.

I guess this might be the poor man's pheromone formula.

Oh, and for fleas, a safe non-invasive product that apparently works like a charm: Cedarcide™.

If that works, that's amazing.

*edit: meant the vinegar, but the flea treatment too if it works - cedar is supposed to be repellent/poisonous to insects I think.

I thought that until I read the whole thread: I don't think someone with anxiety would exacerbate the situation like that. I think they'd be so horrified at the intrustion that unless they had some claim on the cats they'd let you have them so you'd gtfo asap, not create problems so more and more people show up. Sounds like a bitch.

She's quite old. I live in a part of Florida that is mostly retired New Yorkers. I think it's a mix of age, senility, fear and not giving a damn. Senility makes people more fearful because they don't totally grasp things. She understands that it's about the cat though. She yelled something about it not being her cat the time she slammed the door in my husband's face. I was hoping maybe seeing the animal control dude would help her realize we're not robber hooligans. Hehehe. Frustrating, but what can you do?

I'm just going to stay away and keep on animal control about it until THEY handle the situation and bring me the kitties. I really don't need an old frightened woman setting the fuzz on me for trying to do something compassionate. :lol:

Got an animal control lady that was passionate about her job, and she came back with more and more people until the woman let her in the shed. Once the door was slammed in her face, she was on a mission. Hehehe. So now I have a mama kitty and 4 kittens to find homes for. A local rescue is going to help me get the word out, but it's kitten season. So, this isn't the easiest sell. The kittens are about a week old. If anyone is in Florida or can travel, has friends or family etc who might have room in their hearts and homes for a furball, please let me know! I'll be getting the mom fixed and the babies vetted. I don't drive on the highway. So, delivery is not an option. I would be willing to pay for spay/neutering though. Pictures!
