Yeah, as @Vixxen81 said, it’s a security issue since nobody trusts Putin to honor a cease fire.

Ukraine wants some help securing itself against a possible attack post-cease fire. My understanding is they were hoping the U.S. might help them in this regard, but since our president sucks, Europe is stepping up.

I’m not 100% up to date on the latest news, so if I missed any details, someone can correct me.

Finally applied for my passport today, and I had an interesting conversation about politics with the lady who was doing my application.

She said they’ve been slammed busy lately with people getting new passports, and that even she is worried that the application process might be even more difficult or halted moving forward. Also talked about how absolutely stupid the EO regarding trans people not being able to have their identified as gender on their passport.

I paid extra to get my passport processing time expedited and to get faster shipping so I should have it by the end of the month. I need it since I’m going to be flying a lot at the end of April/beginning of May/around the time the real id/passport law goes into effect. But, I’m happy I’m going to have it before Trump can potentially put some sort of halt on all passport applications.

I think a lot of people are going through that. My immediate family has always leaned left, but several in my extended family (for various reasons) are MAGA.

In some cases - not all, though, if I’m keeping it real - they’re people I otherwise had a lot of respect for. People who volunteer in their communities, keep their noses clean, give to charity, and so on. It genuinely disappoints me that they turn around and demonize folks that don’t deserve it because Orange Julius told them to, and vote against their best interests because they’ve been duped.

I’ve had to limit communication with some of them and unfollow their socials for my own mental health. It sucks. Can’t save everyone, unfortunately.

Honestly, I wouldn't be mad if Ukraine WAS ungrateful. If you go back through the events, Trump handed Ukraine to Russia on a silver platter but didn't get re-elected, Biden won. If Trump had won in 2020, Ukraine would be annexed and all belong to Russia.

We tried to keep all sides happy (Biden should have done more, what I don't know exactly) and then Americans fuck it up and reinstall Trump. In what scenario does a war-torn leadership really want to be grateful to the man who allowed it to happen?

When Trump tells you to say thank you, it is directly in deference to himself and only himself. In my mind, and keep in mind I have watched every single minute of the impeachment hearings, I watched every second of the Jan 6 coup, I watched Mike Pence show deference to Trump after Trump said it was okay to kill him until Pence was able to put enough distance between himself and Cheetolini. What Trump wanted was for Z to say "thank you for keeping the war going as long as it has so that we could secure this mineral deal with you." And that's all he wanted to hear.

Also JD doesn't know what the word litigate means and I find that both terrifying and an hilarious indictment on our school systems.

Canada would still be in NATO. Then there is that pesky Article 5 of NATO that says "an attack on one member is considered an attack on all members"

That's why Ukraine hasn't been granted NATO membership. Putin will not stop, no matter what. Nobody really wants to go to war with Russia. I mean their nukes are largely ineffective but now we wait to see if Elon pulls Starlink.

Trump’s first impeachment was because he was trying to coerce Ukraine/Zelensky into providing damaging testimonies about Biden by withholding military aid.

Trump has been trying to bully Zelensky for years, and I’m sure him/the Ukrainian government not investigating Biden or providing damaging narratives at Trump’s insistence is another reason why he’s acting the way he is now. Trump will never let go of that “slight” against him.

Russia has a nuclear stockpile that could absolutely decimate the entire world. And honestly, it only takes one ICBM to start a nuclear war that would make this world uninhabitable. If any country launches an ICBM, let’s say Russia or North Korea launches one at the US, there’s a very finite amount of time our leaders (Trump in this case) would have to make a decision on how to retaliate. Which would more than likely be us launching our own nuclear arsenal.

Stuff like that terrifies me to my core.

Alas Baylon was required reading when I was in school. As a 40-ish woman, I have lived under threat of nuclear war every single day of my life. I also happen to be near a key point that would be instantly targeted. So, I understand the fear and I'm sorry any of us are living through it.

Every day I am either embarrassed, ashamed or really mad about something going on with our government. It's been real exhausting, so I'll add my own vent in here.

Being on the path to privatizing federal public lands is what I'm pissed about today. There is no coming back from this if and once this gets started. This will also create more climate issues and will not solve the abundant wildfire issues the US faces, but instead will add. There's more layers to this that I don't have the energy to get into. Public lands need to be protected.
