What happens when your done caming, or maybe finished college, and became financially stable will a cam girl or someone like myself that sells nudes and videos be able to get a regular job? I'm worried they'll find out about what I've did in the past to make money, NOT that I am ashamed of this because I don't feel it's wrong. Although I know "professionals" in the work force would look down upon this if they ever were to find out? So is it possible to get a job after doing caming?

It's really going to depend on what industry you want to go into. Anything involving working with children, if anyone finds out, you'll be fired and dragged through the mud for it.

I cam, make videos, and work in the financial industry. My employer runs a background check on us, but all they're looking for is theft, I even work with people who have drug possession records (one took the fall for her boyfriend's meth lab in the trunk of her car) and my employer doesn't care, because they haven't committed theft, so they aren't considered to be a risk for outing or abusing client information.

So I wanted to be a adolescent psychologist but I'm guessing that's out the window... My second dream was to be an actress, news broadcaster, talk show host.... I'm guessing those are out the window to?

You can be an actress. In fact a lot of actresses are and have been porn stars. Just be prepared to get asked to do pornography related roles more than the average actress. I think you can also be a talk show host too, just depends on what the topic is. Obviously not a Christian talk show host... but I feel like something with more of an Ellen feel is fine. As for news broadcaster, you most likely won't get hired, or would get fired and then outted and treated like shit. I feel like you should stay away from the News Broadcasting the most.

Ugh that sucks I'm guessing Psychologist is out the window? I don't get why they care about our past tbh. Out of curiosity what's your career goal after this if you don't mind sharing that is! I didn't think I would be outed for selling nudes/videos but I guess stuffs more heavy than I thought.

Im assuming your cam name wasn't your real name so it depends how popular you were as a cam model as to the chances you will be found out. If you cammed full time for years then obviously a lot more people will have seen you then if you did it for a few weeks or months and weren't that popular. If you go on to be an actress or newsreader in the public eye then it increases the chances someone will recognize you but as a psychologist the chances are lower.

Unless you have something like a really identifying birthmark or tattoos then you can always just deny its you, if you change your look then maybe no one will ever know. It will take you a few years to get qualified and after all that time it's most likely any one who saw you cam will have forgotten you anyway, or if they remember your cam persona wont be able to link it with the real life you they see as a patient as you'll be older and look different anyway.

Well, ever heard the saying anything is possible? :p I mean like what are the chances they'll find out you were camming if you cover your tracks, google is a huge search engine so what you want to do is to lookup your cam usernames or anything related to it and if you find anything then log-in the profile and change everything you can or even terminate it, its like doxing yourself lmao for more info hmu on kik i rarely check forums ~ themcdaddyc

I'm not really big on caming if I do I NEVER show my face. I usually sell nudes but I make sure to use fake names and to protect my identity by hiding my face as well.

Sometimes it doesn't even matter if you were "popular". It's more of an issue of it popping up along the way on your annual background check...

What entails a background check? In Canada you just get a criminal record check, where they see if you have outstanding tickets or previous offences. The only kind of people who need these are people who work in daycares, schools and other government establishments.

As for after camming, I've been wondering this myself. Maybe make some requests to google to block any material that's yours, get a different haircolor or style, by the time you transition into your career of choice it's unlikely anyone will notice you as "that cam girl"- Depending on the employer you have, if they do check up on your past, I don't think they are allowed to discriminate based on your work history if that work is legal, and camming is legal in most places. As long as you aren't very publicly outed, I don't see how camming can affect your future. :)

In America it's very different. Sex work is not a protected class...therefor it is not discrimination.

For background checks here work history can be included. As in...WHO paid you...who you worked for...etc.

Camming can affect your future in MANY ways.

Thanks for letting me know. It's very different for my southern neighbours, apparently. Feeling very privileged that it's a little more of a gray area that isn't checked as much here, unless you work high up in the government or for some large corporations.

If it's something you really want to do and feel strongly about, don't assume that a certain job opportunity will, without a doubt, automatically goes out the window. That may be true in some or many cases, but not all of the time. I'm not gonna go into specific detail on here, but a job I had in 2014/2015 involved working with children, as well as one of the part-time jobs that I do now.

Adding significant lengths of time in-between change of careers helps a lot too. Meaning: if you plan to have a "normal- vanilla" job in 3+ years then removing yourself from the cam world in the next 6-9 months or so can help you somewhat 'disappear' or fade away into the background as far as cappings, vids, pics, accounts, etc...

I sorta speak from experience. I was capped/recorded a lot back when i cammed. But I've been gone for nearly 3 years and the amount of material i find when I google myself has DRASTICALLY declined... But I also never sold any videos of myself so that may have been the significant difference with why it slowed down.

Just know that this can help, but it won't absolve you of your internet presence completely. You'll have to stay pretty vigilant for a while though, deleting things you may find through google and whatnot.

I don't think psychologist would be completely out, but I'm not sure. Obviously not if you were an independent one. I am not 100% sure why so many people care so much, BUT I've heard a lot of parents say they don't want an ex sex worker doing things with kids. Maybe try looking that up? Or there's a big youtuber that plays with kids toys and does reviews who was recently outted as a former porn star. Read up what people think of that?

For me, I want to become an entrepreneur, invest into properties, buy homes and rent them out and maybe become a veterinary assistant. I don't think a sex work past would matter in any of those jobs...

I don't think you should give up on your dream job, just be prepared and have a backup plan. Wanna be a psychologist and it doesn't work out but you have a degree? Find an alternative job in the psychology field that may care less. Like a sex therapist... Idk. Lol.

Sorry to burst some bubbles, but your work history does not come up in a background check.

Things that do:
Crimal records
Credit report
Bankruptcies
Education info (certifications, licenses, college degrees)

@Tilly @Sexisoph

Well if Tilly is correct about work history not showing up on background checks, and you NEVER show your face on cam or in your nudes, then I don't see you having any issue getting any job your desire, even with children. If your face isn't on your sex work, no one will ever know it was you. :D

Actually, some work histories do come up in background checks. And, if not, it can come up in other ways. If you are going for a private sector job in the US, there are three ways that work history will typically surface in a background check:
  1. Some medium and large-scale employers report employment to certain agencies which maintain work history and salary information for employees. This is typically used to substantiate pay history and employment history. Large-scale employers and background check firms pay for access to this data.
  2. Most employers report employment to credit reporting agencies, and the ones who don't are usually picked up by credit issuers reporting employment to those agencies based on information obtained from credit-granting applications. For instance, pull your own credit report and look at the section regarding employment history.
  3. Many employers will require prospective employees to provide a full list of all prior employment. They will require information and explanation about any gaps and this could be a challenge.
So, for #1 and #2, it's actually somewhat unlikely that MFC or most other adult sites reports to any of these agencies, partly because they have no good reason and partly because you are probably a contractor and not an employee. So, unless you list your adult work on applications for credit which may get reported to a credit agency, you're probably fine on those two points.

Regarding #3, it's more complicated. Let's say you had other jobs while doing adult work, or you could explain lack of employment in other ways, or you just lie/omit it. That's fine, unless your adult background comes up. Now your employer, who might or might not have declined to hire you for this work, has to decide if you are trustworthy since you lied on an employment application. And for most employers, that absolutely is grounds for termination.

Obviously, if you are going for certain public sector jobs, particularly ones with security clearance requirements, the background check will be far more thorough and they almost certainly will uncover all previous forms of income. But I'll assume that we're mostly talking about private sector work here.

I'm not trying to scare-monger here. I think it's both reasonable and possible to make a split from adult work if you should so desire. But anyone attempting to do so should be fully aware of how these things can arise later.

In my experience, none of this has been the norm, including not having seen my employment history on my credit report. I have excellent longstanding credit and have had numerous former employers outside the SW industry. None have come up. I have had (and have seen the results of) a few background checks over the past several years, for rental property applications etc.

I'm sure in some situations this could happen, but if you simply google what comes up in a background check, employment history is not one of them. It seems a little outlandish for a prospective employer to pay money to see such information. In that case they'd probably splurge on a hair analysis for a drug test too.

Above all, the majority of camsites and clip sites that I know of hire on performers exclusively as independent contractors as well. As said above, in that case, everything he posted is not really valid. Many performers incorporate as LLC or S-Corp. That type of information might actually show up on a background check.

Lots of employers pay for this information. We want to know if you're hiding past employment because, for instance, you were terminated for cause or performance and you aren't coming clean about it.

I realize that employers pay for background checks. I had to pay for my own for rental applications.
I am just saying that in my experience, work history has never come up in one, sex work or not.
A background check would definitely provide sufficient information in regards to someone being terminated for theft or something similar. But SW isn't going to be a red flag. It's not criminal activity. "Camgirl" isn't going to come up on a background check. Self employed independent contractor? Perhaps.

On the point of sex-work, I think for most employers, you are right that it probably isn't going to be an issue. But others on this thread have identified situations in which it could be. I'm merely trying to point out that it certainly can and does come up on various background checks. It might not be that common for all jobs, but it is also not rare for certain types of jobs. And I think leaving a statement out there that it doesn't come up ever is actually somewhat misleading for people who might be reading this and assuming that to be a universal truth.

I don't want to beat this horse to death, and I'm happy to respectfully agree to disagree.

I agree. I think it really depends on the type of job we are talking about. Something in retail, or for a small employee very unlikely. On the other hand, if you were camgirl and you cammed to pay for your master degree, and you now have a job as nurse, lawyer, accountant, social worker, teacher, engineer or other professional at a big company or the government especially Federal, they are going to run a more extensive background check. I thought pretty much everybody does a drug test. Almost certain that if your job requires a top secret clearance, they'll find it out. Sex work probably isn't disqualifying for many jobs unless you outright lied about it on your resume, but it isn't a positive on the resume either.

That sounds like a safe job, and yeah I doubt Spot is going to have a problem with you help making him feel better lol, I use to want to be a veterinarian to! I'm considering just being a journalist writing for a magazine or something. Thanks for the encouragement girl :h:

Thanks everyone you've all helped allot. I've decided to peruse a writing career whether it be journalism or so on. I still will pursue acting on the side, and I feel way better about caming/ selling nudes I was so paranoid before, but I need the money and it is kind of fun.
