The Mac I'm using is a couple years old, and says the software is up to date. I use Firefox and Safari for web browsing. On a lot of sites, there's constantly a discrepancy with Flash software. I am mainly only concerned with how this will affect me broadcasting on other sites.

Recently, I have only been using SkinVideo which allowed you to use their old version. However, it mentioned that my Flash Software is out of date for their updated version. Fine, I just used their older version. I also know that I had similar problems when I was camming on Streamate and MFC. I tried to resolve them with using Google Chrome but that seemed to only cause more issues.

Obviously, I'm not as computer savvy as I'd like to be. I need to know how to fix this, or other sites I can broadcast on that give you choices as SkinVideo did. I would love a newer computer but unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time soon. Anyone out there also still using a Mac OS X? What sites do you use? Are you familiar with these issues?

Thanks in advance!

If your computer is only a couple of years old, I wouldn't imagine you'd be having these problems. My macbook is from 2010 and I don't have any issues upgrading to the newest version of flash player. If you can't do that, you may want to upgrade some of your computer's internal hardware components, like perhaps the video card.

Download the latest version of Flash here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

Adobe still supports Mac OS X versions as old as 10.6 (Snow Leopard) in the latest Flash version.

Thanks for your replies!

I forgot critical information, its version 10.5.8. Time gets away from me, several years would be more accurate. I think, it was purchased in '08. Any other advice with this added information?

Do I just need to upgrade to Snow Leopard?

I guess its clear my computer is really outdated :icon-cry:
I know I need a new computer asap. I can't see putting much $ into fixing the problem, if I'm going to need a new one. No one else is managing with this? Thanks anyway guys.

See if you can get the free upgrade to Mustang--10.94. If your Mac can install it ok, you'll be ahead of the game.

System requirements for Maverick:

System Requirements: iMac (Mid 2007 or newer), or MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer), or MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer), or Xserve (Early 2009), or MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer), or Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer), or Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer), 2 GB of memory, 8 GB of available disk space, and OS X v10.6.8 or later

Oh, and if you're not sure which model you own, download this:

https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/5968/mactracker

It's an app called MacTracker and when you open it, it'll tell you exactly which model you have.

YES! upgrade to Snow Leopard. at least.

I have this on an 08 macbook. I don't use it for camming anymore but did until late last year. I had to get Snow Leopard to upgrade flash for the model web broadcaster at one stage. I don't think you can run chrome or anything anymore without the upgrade.
It's $20 and you have to order the Disk online to upgrade. There's no downloadable versions online, and it's not available in stores. Been there done that!
Get it!! so worth it and once you buy the disk you can buy and upgrade to latter versions of MAC OS online. But I never have. My computer still runs quickly and smoothly for everything else without a further OS update for what I use it for now. I'm not sure the older machines handle the newer OS's well .

Re: Do you use the older Mac OS X? How do u solve Flash Issu

Thank you Nordling for posting all the info about Mavericks! Its just my luck, out of all the compatible Macs listed, mine isn't there. Its not the Aluminum and I don't think it was purchased in 2009.

Lucky Smiles, I can't believe you can't download Snow Leopard, wtf?! Thanks for the heads up. Things are really not in my favor it seems though because the disk drive is broken on the computer

I appreciate everyone's insight though. I guess all that's left is hoping for some sites that offer access to their old version like SkinVideo did. Anyone have suggestions? I remember when I used to broadcast on Streamate they had a notice that you could be banned (or something like that) for using the old software. Soo, I'm assuming they're still a no go.

Thanks again!

I did see this: http://snow-leopard.en.softonic.com/mac/download

But I have no idea if there's any problems associated with it.

There might be downloadable versions available that are fine. But at the time, for me it wasn't worth the risk. Sometimes there's corrupted things for mac that will just end your shit. End of the computer, no way to fix. Mac's maybe don't get viruses as easily but this sort of thing is more common.

I had started downloading it elsewhere when I need it. My best friend is a computer fixer upper and was just like "OMG No! Don't do it! I'll lend you my computer until you get the disk! That might ruin your mac"
so... :dontknow: If you have no option and you're not worried about ruining your macbook. I mean... you'll probably need a new machine if you can't upgrade anyway. And for sites like Streamate it would pay for itself.

I know money can get in the way But ya can't make any if you can't broadcast either. I have an ASUS laptop now that I got in the $400s with an Amazon gift card that works way better for camming. I'm not going to lie I still take my old shitty macbook everywhere to do everything else though. I'm just so much more used to it.

Re: Do you use the older Mac OS X? How do u solve Flash Issu

I think that Snow Leopard was the last Mac OS that was shipped on a DVD. That's how I upgraded my iMac to it back in the day. I would get a copy of Snow Leopard on eBay or some other reputable internet source. Apple let Snow Leopard users with systems of a certain vintage and newer upgrade to 10.9 Mavericks at no cost, so you might be able to grab an immediate update to OSX Mavericks at no cost to you.

https://www.apple.com/hk/en/osx/how-to-upgrade/

Snow Leopard has been left out of a couple security updates by Apple, so there is speculation that Apple isn't supporting it anymore. If you don't qualify for the free upgrade to Mavericks, I would at least buy Lion or Mountain Lion from the Apple software store, if possible. You'll probably be out $30-40 or so if you need to buy two upgrades, but it's cheaper than a new computer, and probably not any more expensive than if you upgraded the OS at the time each OS was released.

You should be able to download a perfectly safe version of Snow Leopard on Cnet or something. If you think that is the fix you need, why not just get a disc from amazon to be sure? Or just get a whole new computer. It's a tax write off, and you'll have less issues in the future related to Flash and outdated whatnots.

You can buy snow leopard on disk directly from apple but only via their website. They don't carry it in apple stores. But you need to install it before you can upgrade to any later versions.
