If you don't want to ban them right off the bat (which I, like Diana, HIGHLY recommend!) telling them off in a private message when you're offline is a much better option. Seriously, if I started picking my nose in free chat, I could run off dozens of potential customers within minutes, and damage my reputation and entire image. Not to mention feel nasty afterwards, but that's me.

I haven't dealt with him, but I know his type. Obsessive- warning then ban. Threats of self harm- give him the suicide hotline phone number (you can look up the national one online).

You're not a therapist. However, the threats of self harm from someone who was formerly obsessive is not actually a break from the obsessiveness. It's a manipulation tactic used quite often. Remember- if someone is acting in a way that makes you uncomfortable, step 1 is to tell them to stop it (with a why if you feel that they might not realize what they are doing), and step 2 is to ban if they don't stop. (block every avenue of contact when banning)

As i still believe we should be careful not to give the appearance that using RW names is always fine, i must add that i was new to the forum at the time and did not realize the close relationship between Nordling and Fox and Nordling and the forum. In hindsight i know i would not have made that post calling Fox out if i had been more aware.
