with so many examples of just plain "obnoxcicity" (i think i made that up :lol: ) stuff from members....it's time for something different....uncontrollable sweetness

so syrupy sweet and sincere that at one point i just wanted to reach through the screen and slap the poor guy silly....thank god it wasn't my room.

i didn't keep the exact verbage....i'll just tell the story.....
guy comes into a friend's room two nights ago....only been a premie for month or so....is very nice with tips and compliments, and stayed a long time (finally takes her private, too)....cool...he LIKES her :dance:
comes outta private and says goodbye....says he's outta tokens and doesn't wanna freeload
my friend has moved on with another countdown....and she thrives in PM, too, so this guy's comment in the room get's no response.....
he says it again
and a third time
then shuts up for a while....but doesn't leave :whistle:

then starts over with the compliments again....they're not so fresh this time, ya know?.....you can almost here the hope in his voice, especially since the "i don't wanna be a freeloader" is peppered here and there throughout what is now dominating the talk in chat

my friend is smiling and coy and typing a lot, which means she's got a few guys in PM...they're "fishing" as she calls it. (her "room" is not her strong point)
meanwhile....this guy sees what he wants to see.....and everything he sees is for his benefit, of course, making him feel like he's on top of the world
compliments become kisses and hugs
for maybe 2 minutes, until the lonliness seeps in again...and then he begins with the "well, i guess i'll go" talk
damn....nope....that's just not getting her attention either :whistle:

and what was at first amusing, and then irritating, becomes downright pathetic
there's plenty of traces of this kind of guy around, imo.....but i've never witnessed it in such a pure form.

I'm more surprise that this surprised you. I'm not going to start on the psychology of members on chat/video sites, that's a whole deep disturbing thread of it's own.

People like this have been on the internet and in chat rooms since the internet came into existence. Internet anonymity removes inhibitions and amplifies feelings/desires out of proportion. I always get the stereotypical image of the 30/40/50 yr old who lives in his mum's basement with these type of people, rather than the 14yr old.

I expect the 14yr old to be the obnoxious "open boobs bb" guest more than they paying premium, although it has been asked of a premium member on multiple occasions whether mummy know's they've stolen the CC and aren't in bed yet.

There was a book published a couple years ago looking at the phenomenon of facebook, myspace, orkut, etc and the "friends" syndrome from the perspective of people who use the sites, and why the sites became so popular and always will be, under one name or another. It's all about loose connections, like seeing people in the apartment building opposite everyday through their window. Over time people begin to feel a connection and that they know someone (think of Friends episodes about the naked guy in the apartment opposite). The Internet reduces the time it takes for people to 'feel' a connection and that they know/care about someone.
I found the book fascinating and scarily it re-enforced views I'd already formed and explained behaviours I'd seen working from the other side as an architect of the systems to deliver these types of site.

If I remember the name of the book I'll post it, I lent the book to someone who never returned it :angry4: that needs to go into the pet peeve thread

This may be a shock to you, but I am not a ladies man. I suspect the gentleman you were talking to is the same, but while I accept I am going to end up with a lot of "just friends" as I move through life he let it eat at him and the poison turned his soul dark, bitter, and twisted. I would not be overly concerned about it. Sad as he is, there is little you can do for people like that. Even if he found someone the feelings living in his heart would ruin the relationship's foundation of trust and probably cause it to crumble.
