If you are on cam currently, and having trouble reaching a naked countdown:

#1. Stop busying yourself with Twitter, talking shit about other girls who are currently doing better than you are, and pay attention to your room. Be as entertaining and interactive as possible.

#2. Stop showing videos of yourself completely naked, or you give 0 incentive to your viewers to tip to see you naked right now. Your cam should be showing you, live, talking with your members.

Stop wasting time on PMs, if your theoretically working towards your countdown your hands should be ANYWHERE other than your keyboard!

I'm not saying spread-stretch-zoom here, just touch your body like its a thing that interests you more than your keyboard or smartphone

#4. If you're not doing actual work, you don't deserve money.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion. But in no job in the world do you just show up and get paid. Why should camming be any different?

You need to get on cam and actually work. Spending 75% of your time checking Facebook, ACF, Tumblr, sitting around and complaining is not work. That is what regular people do when they get home from their jobs.

If you are on camera and not working, do not complain about not getting money. Showing up does not count as work. You do not deserve money just because you've decided to turn your webcam on.

#5. Webcamming is a skill, just like any other. If you dedicate yourself and practice, you will improve. You can spend two weeks reading about piano theory, history, and technique on the Internet, but that will in no way make you a good piano player the first time you sit down at a keyboard. Likewise, you can read all you want about webcamming - and get some great tips - but in the end, it takes hours put in on cam to improve your skills.

This could fall under Lemon's #3, so I'm not going to tag it. If you are spending more time in a PM window than paying attention to your chat your going to lose 9 of 10 members who enter your room for the first time. No one wants to come in and say " :wave3 Hi, Model's name", and have to wait to be greeted back. If you are just between Windows, and it's a matter of a second or maybe two, fine. But leave me sitting there watching you hold up your side of a conversation in PM, when you do notice my greeting, I won't be there.

The question you have to ask is "Are you paying sufficient attention to your room and staying entertaining and lively?"
If the answer is no, then stop multitasking.
There's also a big difference between "I bet the guys would like to talk about this subject!" and "I wonder what Stacy is doing on Facebook".
I just wanted to say that not every girl who multitasks is being lazy.

My tip is to try different sites, but give them all a very fair try.
I hear LOTS of girls upset with MFC's up-and-downs, or don't have the time it takes to build a following there.
I don't think enough girls realize that there are other cam sites, and video sites if you find you're not as great live.
Try some others, expand, and its never a bad idea to have a backup plan.

#6 even if you're frustrated by lack of tips or progress on the countdown, don't take it out on the members. Even though they should be tipping, bitching them out (or other members doing so on your behalf) only creates a negative, unfriendly atmosphere - and a negative vibe is anathema to getting tips happening.

Reading/responding to PMs briefly and reading/responding to MFC Mail briefly is fine. Especially when the message is from someone who's currently IN your room. He could be asking "Did you check your MFC Mail? I left you something." That happened last night, and it was a 1,000 token offline tip.

I also love what Evvie said in her post. This whole "I'm gonna just sit here on cam silently staring at the screen, waiting to see who's gonna beat the highest tip of 1,000 tokens" thing...nah, I can't do that and I WON'T do that. Hell, it would bore ME to death if I was like that on cam, so I would imagine that, to the members, it makes the model very boring and uninteresting.

Why stay in a room where the model and members are just playing The Staring Game with each other? *scratches head* I need to be doing something. Chatting with the guys who are kind enough to speak in my room...flashes for tips...teasing.

The one constant ive noticed is conversation...even if its typed only, conversation seems to induce more tipping than sitting there and staring at the screen. With a small number of exceptions, verbal rather than typed seems to work better. just make sure that your mic is decent and that your music doesnt overload it and make it come out on the member's end as static or crackles.

I agree with what Chellelovesu said too. The key is to keep your members engaged. If you get to the point where they're sitting around wondering what's going on, that's when there's a problem.

PMs are kind of a difficult issue. On the one hand, models (at least the ones I follow) are rarely logged on for long when they're not on cam, so what's the point of being on their friends lists if you can't PM them while they're on cam? On the other hand, a model responding to a lot of PMs definitely seems less engaged with the room as a whole, so it's not doing her any favors to pepper her with a lot of PMs while she's on. I generally don't initiate PMs with a model who's on cam unless there's really something I need to say that I don't want to say in the room, which is rare. I'd guess the best a model can do is to keep those conversations short.

And yes, try not to just sit around doing nothing (btw, I consider having a good conversation to be "doing something"). Sometimes models ask the room for suggestions about things to do, and that's fine -- but ultimately, if nobody has a good idea, it's up to you to have a plan for your room, so I think it's important to have some ideas about what you're going to do if things are slow.

#7. Members are not psychic. If you never tell a member "no" and never set firm boundaries, how are they supposed to know they're making you uncomfortable? We may think our hints, suggestions, and "jokes" are cluing them in - but in the end, it is not the member's fault if you allow him to believe that what he is doing is okay. You cannot expect members to just "know" how you feel.

I agree with the posts about not sitting around doing nothing. I've been in one models room a few times where she's sat in her chair on her iphone and when someone tips, she waits until she finishes what she's doing on there before acknowledging the tip.
Most models i know that are either on their phone, away from the computer or looking at something else will either switch back to thank the tipper or will say 'thank you whoever tipped' and then thank the tipper when they get back to the computer.

The two tips i would give are:
1 - Keep control of your room. Debates are great, let people express different views on subjects. But when a debate turns into an argument or an arguement breaks out, find a way to sort things out quickly.
2 - No matter how much you may want to or believe you are right, never talk about another model in a negative way and don't let members either. Some members will take what's been said and twist it to create a situation between models, sometimes when both models are innocent and it was the members at fault.

I think most of the stuff I've noticed as being counter-productive has already been mentioned, but here's my contribution anway.
And I preface this by stating the obvious - I'm not a camgirl, yo (this may come as a surprise to many of you, but I'm really not.... or am I? [no, I'm not :? ]). Models pouting and angrily demanding that somebody tip that very second is a bit of a turn off though. I've seen models start banning members indiscriminately, and threatening to continue doing so until tips start rolling in; I once saw a model turn her camera to face the wall and said she wouldn't turn it back around so the room could see her until she had x amount of tokens tipped to her. So... it's probably best not to do any of that.

Typing instead of talking - I get that for some models, English is not a first language and I get that some models may feel more comfortable typing instead of talking, but... I'm just not a fan, ya know?

Minimum token tip restrictions - I tend to try and keep a steady(ish) flow of 10-20 token tips going when I'm hanging out in a room but I can't ever really afford to drop large tip-bombs or anything. The flipside of that is that I don't ask for anything in return for those tokens. If I go to send a model a 20 token tip and they have a minimum tip of 25 tokens set, I'm just going to assume that they don't need my money all that badly and give it to one of the many models who seem grateful for the small tips as well as the large.

This is not exactly a protip, but I would encourage models to think about typing as well as talking.

Many members browse MFC with the sound off (myself included).

If your room topic does not contain the information you want to share, and you're only talking about it - that will miss some members. Also remember that sometimes members just don't catch what you're saying or lag will cause your audio to skip.

You don't have to type every sentence you say, but if you're making a key point, you can type it as well to ensure that all members have access to that information. For example, here's what happened today:

Room topic: Get me naked - only 455 tokens left!
Me talking: Zomg guys I want to whore dance! I want to dance like a whore! I want to slut it up and show you guys my boobies! But I'm still wearing clothes oh wait idea when the countdown reaches 400 tokens I'll do a sexy sex dance!
Me typing: Sexy sex dance at 400 tk

This is a personal preference. I agree with you; I'd rather hear a model speak. But there are guys out there who prefer models who type. I think they're probably a minority, but there is a market for this.

Ugh. I really, really hate that. Nobody should be PMing me before I've ever interacted with them at all.

Definitely. It's one thing to share your problems via PM with regulars you're friends with, but if you're in a really negative mood, it's almost always best not to be on cam.

When I say "adequate lighting", I do not necessarily mean 1 million lumens. There are a few models (Posie, GoddessZoey, for example) who regularly have low light, but an extremely clear video stream. Clear is always better than hazy

There is a nifty trick that many models use, explicitly or covertly. In essence, this trick is the core of the sexual entertainment skill set. The trick is — the model does me a favor for free, and it makes me feel like I was treated far too kindly and want to tip in gratitude.

For example, the first time I was in the room of a certain Evvie (who wished to remain unknown), she asked me personally what outfit I would like on her — just a few minutes after I entered her room, and before I tipped the first time. This sure broke the ice and unzipped my tip wallet. Today I saw a model accidentally reveal a password to a gallery in free chat. I and a couple other people immediately tipped the amount that the gallery password was worth.

But this trick has to be mastered. If performed incorrectly, it will lead to a room full of freeloaders. Don't try this at home, kids. Or, maybe, try this at home, but don't blame Chris when they come to get you.

While it is annoying when a model is not paying attention to her room because of all the PMs. It is equally annoying when a member is genuinely trying to discuss a pvt show or purchasing a skype show, but the model is more happy to entertain a room full of basics and guests who are telling her what they would do to her...if they werent too socially inept to leave their mothers basement.

To be a pro...you must stay where the money is at..bottom line. I will say..that PMing with a premium...you stand a better chance of getting paid than a room full of basics and guests. However..if you get a number of premiums talking in your chat...well...the chat room may be where its at.

Yeah, Notepad is very handy. I use it to keep an alphabetical list of members' e-mail addresses and mailing addresses (for if they've won a mailable prize, etc.) and which of my videos they currently have.

I also use Notepad sometimes to plan my room topics beforehand. That way, I'm not sitting there like "Hmmm, what should my topic be?" Since there's a 100 character limit for room topics, I have this *see below* series of numbers typed out in Notepad. Sometimes I might need to abbreviate to make everything fit within the 100 character limit.
