If someone I know personally in real life that knows of my camming were to post my cam girl name and screen caps exposing me on their Facebook could I take legal action for them doing that? I understand that camming is like leaking yourself to the internet lol but on myfreecams we have a choice of choosing what states can and can’t see our livestream but anyone could find our screencaps if they look up our username . this situation isn’t happening to me I actually quit myfreecams 6 months ago but I wanna know what to do if it ever does happen to me lol

I doubt there would be much you could do. It’s my understanding that revenge porn laws are to protect pics/vids that were sent privately. I don’t think you would get the same protection for something you willingly put online yourself.

You can sue for anything. If you can prove damages, you have a case.
Where is she going to file suit? For a court to hear a case it has to have jurisdiction over both parties involved. What damages? Being outed to family and friends might really suck, but it would be difficult to prove any real monetary damages when the source was a free web site and the content was posted by the model.

At best this would be copyright infringement and a DMCA take down notice could be sent to Facebook, but on it's own I do not think it would be considered "revenge porn" unless it could be linked to a series of other threatening/predatory behaviors.

If they are blackmailing you, contact the authorities.

@ForceTen its actually a law that was brought in a few years ago, at least in the UK. It covers images and videos being shared online that shows either the person in a sex or naked in some form. It's punishable up to 2 years in prison.

Pretty sure the above wouldn't cover what the OP was talking about though.

Thanks for the information. I think there's laws here in the US which are similar. Though, I would agree that it may not apply to the OP, or other adult workers with content freely available online. I would think there'd be a law on the books more about intent than about how it is done.

In Australia it is an offence to "use the internet, social media or a telephone to menace, harass or cause offence." This is punishable by potential jail time...

Most jurisdictions should have similar laws, it is just up to the authorities how aggressive they are in persuing these offences. What a person does for work "should" not affect the outcome.

If ever something like this should happen, the first step would be to contact the social media site as they have a duty of care to protect you from bullying. At the moment there is a lot of discussion about the responsibility that social media companies have in regards to the content that is posted on their sites and the harm it is causing to society...

This gets pretty tricky. Lots of great info already posted on this thread. I think if you are truly concerned about someone the first thing you should do is lock down your personal and camming profiles. Geoblocking is handy but can be bypassed if someone is using a VPN. The next best thing is removing anything that might be super graphic from your cam profiles, and anything that might show off a lot of your face or recognizable markings (birthmarks, tattoos, piercings).

If someone is DOXXING you, and making your personal info available to people who know you as a cam girl, who then visit you. call you, harass you, etc, THAT IS SEVERELY ILLEGAL AND VERY SCARY. Call the police. I would even go so far as to connect with an attorney for further legal assistance.

It really depends on the laws of the particular area, but in some areas, yes, this could count as revenge porn, especially the scenario you described. It's because of the motive or the way it's shared or intended to be shared, not the fact that it was public to begin with. Again this is not all areas, you'd have to talk to a lawyer in your area to know for sure.

Hi! My entire family is aware and very supportive and I was very open about my camming life. Some people in my old hometown knew and I didn’t care what anyone says behind my back but i only wanted to know if I could press charges or take some kind of legal against against them instead of beating their ass if they ever decided to post my content online lol

Thank you for all the replies! Just letting everyone know that this isn’t happening to me! It’s just that I’ve gotten into it online with old classmates in the past and I wanted to know what to if they knew and decided to bring it up or post me.

I am experiencing harassment similar to what you're describing.

I was very, very naive when I started camming and added someone on whatsapp, I quickly realized my mistake, blocked them but it was too late. They used my name and number to find me on Facebook. The harassment started as texting via a spoof number (same area code as mine) with stuff along the lines of "OMG, you're on Chaturbate," to sending me screen caps with a picture from my FB side-by-side, to "I'm going to tell all your friends and family," to actually sending screen caps from my show to my father and ex-wife.

I'm working with a law firm that specializes in this type of harassment and plan on filing a police report. I can update you on how that goes.
