Good episode, though I kind of wish they'd separated all of these things throughout the series rather than put it all into one big lump of events and have a really short fight at the end. The fight was awesome but it was over too quickly. Oberyn is such a good character, I would have liked to have seen as much of him as possible. They seem to do this in most of the previous series, where in the book there are interesting events happening all the way through in the series they'll hold back on the first half of the series and have several episodes where not all that much happens and then they'll cram it all into the last few episodes. As much as it makes for a really exciting ending I'd prefer it if the events were separated a bit more so that more time and effort can be put into each one rather than them being rushed and crammed into a short space of time. That may just be me though. I'm really looking forward to the next few episodes.

I gotta agree with Isabella, when they cram so much into an episode that's all pretty huge stuff like that it's a bit overwhelming and also makes the episode fly by. I like to savor my shows, damn it

I was not prepared to see Oberyn's head pop like a zit. I suppose that's what everyone was talking about

My girlfriend and I had felt all season that a certain character was reminding us of a certain character from Princess Bride and the most recent episode did nothing to change that.

“My name is Oberyn Martell. You killed (and raped) my sister. Prepare to die.”
“My name is Oberyn Martell. You killed (and raped) my sister. Prepare to die.”
“My name is Oberyn Martell. You killed (and raped) my sister. Prepare to die.”
*splat*

OK, the way that ended was rather different.

Think we all wish there were more than ten one-hour episodes per season. They're forced to cram in the massive amount of events from the books to try to show who the characters are in a short amount of time. The more the show follows the style of the books, the more events are told second-hand through a conversation by characters not directly involved in them. Rarely do the books actually describe the play by play of the battles themselves for very long. The scheming and morals of the characters are more the focus.

Books 4 and 5, separate the series geographically by parts of their World. It will be interesting to see how the next season of the TV show handles this. I assume they'll have to cover a few chapters a time from each book, otherwise some key characters will be completely missing from the season.

This is my issue though. They're not forced to cram it. They choose to cram it to make the endings of the series more exciting. Through the middle of this series they dawdled and added a bunch of stuff that was totally unnecessary. Things like Jon going off to Crasters, it didn't happen in the book, nor did it have any relevance to the storyline, nor did anything even happen except getting his arse kicked by a cutthroat. It was completely unrelated to anything. They clearly put it in to bulk up an episode so they could hold off all the stuff with the wildlings until the end. I'd rather they didn't do that and just used all the amazing content they already have and take their time with it rather than rushing it at the end and having this crazy epic "oh my god everything has happened at once!" then series end. Like TittySprinkles I like to savour my shows. This may be why I love books so much.

I am still enjoying it, but I'm not enjoying it as much as I should be. Usually I can still really enjoy shows when I've already read the book if they're done well but I feel because I already know all of the spoilers without the spoilers this season has been a little damp.

I wander what they'll do with the next season. The next book in my opinion was the worst book so I think I'll probably enjoy it more as I'll have lower expectations. As in the next book he splits the characters so in the next book it's all Jaimie, Cersei, a little bit of Arya, Bran and a few other characters, but mainly Jaimie and Cersei not being all that interesting, I wander if they'll just turn the two books into one series and mix it up.

They often have reasons for inventing new scenes or moving things around. One big one is to make sure no character is off-screen for too long. (a) fans of that character get annoyed, and (b) more importantly, in order to get actors to stick around they have to give those actors things to do.

Sometimes scenes are invented to convey some information that would otherwise be hard to convey in TV form. Or to replace things they've had to cut for other reasons. TV is a very different medium and there are many, many considerations that go into adapting a work for that format. A literal remake wouldn't be practical and would not get the same ratings.

I'm completely ok with them inventing new scenes so long as they actually do have a reason for it. There are lots of little tidbits that they added in which explain storylines etc which I can totally understand why they did it and make the series much better. The thing with Jon and Bran was literally to bulk up the episode so they could save the wildlings attack until the end. I understand why as that part is very intense, but I would have preferred if they had at least had the first attack earlier in the series instead. Or even if the fight at Crasters had been a lot better and Jon hadn't had some lousy fight where he almost lost. None of it had anything to do with the storyline. The only thing they added in that I can understand was the Other turning the baby into an Other which was interesting.

So I am up on the wall shooting arrows around and pushing flaming barrels
When some son of a bitch giant shoots and arrow at me from the ground below the size of a harpoon and launches my ass over the wall.

Thank goodness for "the Scythe" that seems to take care of people climbing the wall. Handy bit of hardware...yup...handy...

There are sooooooo many storylines to tie up!! Next week is going to be 66 minutes of pure nonstop crazy to fit it all in.

That was a great visual. One of my favorites in that episode.

Don't give them any ideas about showing the giants having sex. I don't need that image stuck in my head.

Everything you just said was what was going through my head last night watching it. At some point I just kept saying "Man, mammoths are so cool. I want a friggin' mammoth." Also, I felt sort of bad when the giant at the gate was found dead. He's was just doing his job, maaaan.

Though I haven't read it in the books yet, it was nice to see the battle get an entire episode. That little fucker who operates the lift is a great shot.

I'm not gonna be a crybaby about it but...

:crybaby:

I just took my dad to the movies for Fathers Day and while we were there they had a giant banner up promoting the fact that...They're broadcasting the Game of Thrones finale tonight on the theatre screen. It's sold out of course, but how on earth did I not know about this sooner?!

I definitely would've paid and went to go see that tonight had I known!

WOW...I did not see that coming!
This is one of the only times I will say that I am GLAD I didn't read the books.

I was just floored by so much that happened

I am going to miss the Hound so much he was one of my favs...but I guess that's that. and Poppa Lannister killed on the toilet...how fitting. Looks like Stanis is going to use the Wild men as troops...next season could get crazy.

There was a specific thing I knew from the books, that I was waiting for in the show, but it can wait until next season. The finale was pretty damn fantastic. For once, they saved all giant stuff for the last episode instead of the episode BEFORE the last (even though the battle on The Wall is pretty huge).

Amazing episode.

One of the big three (four?) things that happened got spoiled by Frankie Boyle on Twitter a few months back (cunt...) but even knowing that one thing going in didn't make the episode any less dramatic.

I'm not entirely convinced The Hound is gone (please don't correct me if I'm wrong :p)
Tyrion killing Shay was fucking heartwrenching :(

Tyrion kiling Shae broke my heart even though I knew it was coming. His facial expression and his "I'm sorry" killed me.

I REALLY hope Lady Stoneheart comes in next Season. I understand Cold Hands being eliminated.... But I hope this doesn't get cut. And Leena Heady is a damn cunt on Instagram. She posted a photo of a heart made out of stones before this episode aired. RAGE!! lol

Two questions for all of y'all smarter than I:

1. What's the deal with Bran and the tree?
2. What's up with the Fire Witch staring at John Snow?

Yeah, I didn't get how she lost her affinity for him, guess it was all an act.

More than Shae, I was pissed that Ygritte died last week. It was all in my mind that her and Jon would be an item forever and ever. lol

Judging from other parts in the books (only mid way through the second book I think now) and how shitty Lannister are to their family, it wouldn't shock me if Shae was directly picked by Tywin and sent to Bronn knowing Tyrion would did her or he got to her fairly early on in her relationship with Tyrion as a way to keep tabs on the son he hates.
