I think this trend should be of great concern, and such agendas need to be highlighted and called out so that draft policies are overturned before they gain any credence.... the US isn't making policies in isolation. There's a global trend toward extremely restrictive policies and the removal of women's rights and it's short sighted as well as callous not to consider its effect on our own
Not sure if the 'misogyny' speech delivered in Parliament by our former PM Julia Gillard made much news around the world at the time (2012), but it was very big news here.
This is just a small part of what she stood up and said:
"I rise to oppose the motion moved by the Leader of the Opposition. And in so doing I say to the Leader of the Opposition I will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man.
I will not. And the Government will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man. Not now, not ever. The Leader of the Opposition says that people who hold sexist views and who
are misogynists are not appropriate for high office. Well I hope the Leader of the Opposition has got a piece of paper and he is writing out his resignation. Because if he wants to know what
misogyny looks like in modern Australia, he doesn't need a motion in the House of Representatives, he needs a mirror. That's what he needs."
