So I got curious about what's involved in hosting a cam girl website. I thought I'd share some of the research. CDN stands for content delivery network. Lots of companies use them to distribute their video online. CDN is really the back bone of adult online entertainment industry.

wowza for instance charges .085 to .049 per GB of streaming video.

To give you an idea , MFC streams at 240p, an hour of 240p is about .255 of a GB. That works out to 1.2 to 2.1 cents per watcher.

100 people watching a model for an hour at MFC quality 1.10 to 2.00 dollars.

100 people watching at 1080p would cost about 127.5 USD.

My expertise ends at being able to hack php (and code simple cookie-cutter php) so this is all something out of my comfort zone. Interesting looking over Wowza though. One of these days when I'm bored and over-caffeinated, might have to dig through their documentation and see how involved integration really is.

I've brokered ModelNet to a couple entities. Shame I couldn't work something out between them and KinkLive (I tried, didn't stick). Most notable sites on their network are CamWithHer/ICGirls (and whatever else is under the SNR umbrella). MyFetishLive is another site leveraging their platform. Cool concept. They've got it to where you can pull models from other sites in their network (Assuming that network opts into that part of the program) and feature your models on other sites in the network. That all works on a revshare between the networks and ModelNet.

Adent.io claims they're going to be able to pull BongaCams and CB chats through API and echo them out on their live streaming CMS. It's in POC right now and they're not really elaborating on how the hell it works exactly or how deep of integration it really is. I'm assuming it's something that actually looks and feels proprietary, otherwise, what's the purpose?

I see concepts like that as a game-changer. I've got like 3-4 new camming site webmasters reach out to me every month. They're all dealing with the issue of not having either customers or models. You can't attract models if there isn't paying customers and no customers will come to your site without models. The huge issue facing webmasters trying to jump into the niche. Solutions like the one ModelNet has developed, and that Adent is working on can mitigate that issue, so I'm very interested in seeing how both those platforms evolve and grow.

Anyways, that's kind of the extent of dabbling I've done on the tech-side of the industry. Nothing as far as actual implementation. It'd be a fun project. Probably a fucking headache too. Probably just end up sourcing to India or Pakistan. Some rockstars over there that code for cheap.

If anyone does have some actual experience working with CDN, I'd be interested to pick your brain on it. I've got some action on that side of things too. Nothing too major, but it's some high-dollar conversions.
