So, Jawbs and I recently finished watching all 2.5 seasons (I'd say 3, but we all know how short and unsatisfying the 3rd was, and was cut from the intended 22 episodes down to 13, outrageous!) and have added it to the list of our "favorite shows of all time." So I wanted to have a thread to discuss it, since I've seen references to it throughout other areas of the forum and I know I'm not alone in my love for the show.

Who was your favorite character?

I loved Lindsay. Portia de Rossi was fabulous in Ally MacBeal (another of my favorite series) and I thought she was a brilliant slightly alcoholic pill popping bad parent. Maeby was great, too.

Which character did you dislike the most, if any?

Tobias! He makes me cringe. Especially when the hair plug theme started. BLEH! I think I just have an aversion to ugly people. He's one of the ugliest actors I've seen, and his character does some disgusting stuff.

What was your favorite episode?

I loved the "good grief" episode, especially when Buster and Gob flop the coffin illusion. I've seen this gif on MFC
Arresteddevelopmentsnoopy.gif
and finally understand where it came from! I couldn't help laughing each scene that had a character walking like this.

What were your favorite recurring themes/jokes?

Michael's quick witty jabs about Ann anytime George Michael brought her up had me in stitches. I know Jawbs agrees that this was one of the funniest recurring jokes. And the "well that was a freebie" line being thrown around was great, too. All the chicken dancing (each character having their own version, especially) was hilarious. Gob's kinda freaked me out a tad, though.

Did you watch it when it was new on Fox, or did you stream the episodes/buy the DVDs? Are you planning to buy the DVDs? Dying for the rumored new episodes and movie to come out?

We streamed each episode on Netflix and are planning to buy the DVD to support them. We are certainly dying to see any new episodes and movie that may come out.

Why is David Cross ugly?! What you got something against bald guys, miss "I have perty long hair?"
Some of us like our scalps nice and smooth. Admittedly, his probably isn't by choice. And he had the ring of stubble.

My favorite character had to be fucking GOB. I love Arnett. From the magic, to the segue, to "(Every thing I do) I do it for you." So damn funny all the damn time. I still want to beat up George-Michael, just to get him to man up a little.
Maeby was a hottie.... you know after she got a little older.

I'll see paperwork at my job sometimes that has the name "Funke" and I laugh every time.

I don't have a favorite episode but for some reason I tend to hear Carl Weathers in my head from time to time saying, "You put all that in a pot, you got a stew goin'." Mostly when I'm trying to figure out what to cook.

I'm disappointed at the lack of replies in this thread.

Gob's was the only legitimate chicken dance! Although it did get him an ass-whooping in Mexico. Every time I hear "The Final Countdown" start I think of Gob.

I loved Tobias lol, he's probably my favourite character even though I have serious hots for Portia De Rossi. I always remember the scene where Tobias decides he needs to be a more firm disciplinarian with Maeby and started listening to this song

I also liked the last few episodes very thinly-veiled self-referential jokes about the show being cancelled.

Someone in a room just like 2 days ago said the movie has finally been greenlit but you know, I've heard this so many times I'll believe it when I see it. I try not to let it get to me, but it has pissed me off that such an amazing show wasn't valued enough to keep going.

Oh and Charlize Theron...LOL!!!!

In Scott Pilgrim vs the World where scott fights the lesbian ex-gf I was like OMG it's Ann Veal!

Yea, just earlier this month there were serious discussions about new episodes (apparently each episode would be focused one one character in preparation for the movie) and about the movie. So stoked!

I love the show too. Watched them all when they werer released on DVD and bought the first season for like $5 at Big Lots.

I was thinking of going as Tobias for Halloween. <---Too bad he isn't blue.

Favourite character is Tobias. Hands down, the AnalRapist is the best.

Least favourite character?..Uncle Jack, that whole episode was just..eurgh.

Favourite recouring gag has to be either the 'Tobias is gay' stuff, or G.O.B. and his Magic fails.

Favourite episode is a tough one off the top of my head. I'll come back to that.

Didn't watch it till I downloaded them and yes I'm buzzing for the rumoured new episodes :D

OMG yes! He was nasty!

I just started watching this not too long ago so I'm still on season 1.

I love the Mother! She cracks me up with her ruthless tactics. So far my favorite episode is the one where she pits Lindsay and Michael against each other when they're trying to be friends.

This!

I love when she says, "maybe it's because you are a lazy stay in bed mother...his words!"

LMFAO!
Followed up with:

"I said you wouldn't give her the money, and she said, "He will if I get him drunk." Probably because she thinks you're a cheap bastard. Oh... her words."

I started rewatching this series a week before the news came out about the new season/movie on netflix and I'm about 24 episodes in so I'm sure I'll be back with more jokes and repeated jokes that make me laugh.

I love Tobias but when the show came out I'll be honest David Cross was the reason I tuned in when the show came out because I knew him from Mr. Show with Bob n David and I loved that show. I love the awkward silences and glances every time he says something quasi-homosexual "I'm like a cat, I always land on all fours"... Along with the "I just blue myself" and the random scenes of him hiding in blue scenery tracking down his wife.

"I know you're the big marriage expert, OH! I'm sorry I forgot your wife is dead heh..." That scene nearly killed me.

I also got a kick out of Annyong and how everyone thinks that is what his name was. My favorite was when Gob came over and said Annyong and he replied with An nyoung, Gob looks at the mother and says "Is he still on that?" because that is all the kid said for like five episodes. And his rivalry that has blossomed with Buster is hilarious.

Not to mention how the one armed man gets used every time there was a lesson to be learned.

If you don't already own it, and want to change that, the entire series is on sale for $30 today on Amazon's goldbox deals

hola hermano,
you heard of this new series dallas? I heard it's pretty good

on a serious note:
1) Tobias Fünke.
2) Julia Dreyfuss' character

Totally.

I love arrested development - I love it so much that i bought box sets of all three seasons for my ex for christmas last year even though he'd never even heard of it. Which prompted him to start phoning me every time he was watching it, in stitches, telling me about why he was laughing so hard.

I also spent last New Years Day in bed with my best mate (not how it sounds before anyone starts getting all smutty lol), watching it from when we woke up to when we crashed out again that night. Best New years Day hangover recovery ever.

There are so many classic moments that i find it hard to single out one. The whole relationship that Buster has with his mother's arch enemey friend (can't remember her name for some weird reason) made me laugh so hard. The bit where he's talking about first spotting her and her 'points'. The vertigo...and then all the stuff where he comes back from 'army'.

In short though, the whole series is comedy genius, and the jokes within jokes are spot on too. Anyhow, I'm a big fan as you can probably tell...

I love AD. I loved how in the 3rd season they give you clues to Charlize Theron's character through sight gags, like the bus bench her and Michael are sitting on, and she gets up, and it reveals a word clue.

And "it's not a trick, it's an ILLUSION!" at the wedding... oh my god. I couldn't stop laughing for like a day after that one.

Also, on MFC, try :analrapist haha

Oh, dammit, I meant to say, if you liked Portia in AD, look up Better Off Ted. She was fabulous in that. And that show was hilarious, too. Sadly only 2 seasons, but after that, go look up the same guy's other show, Andy Richter Controls the Universe. Also only 2 seasons, but funny as hell. And Paige Brewster in that... God damn, she's hot.
