No, I mean members who say they have lots of tokens (or the model can see how much they have) and pretty much taunt the model. I've come across a couple who do that and it's just really mean in my opinion.

Those guys are dicks, at least I think they are.
Yeah, I mean, if they don't want to tip, that's perfectly fine... But don't go trolling them, saying you have all these tokens and asking them to do shit for them and/or saying that they're just going to flat out not tip them.

I think you guys are missing the point on Skype safety. It's not about some person finding your IP address and then sifting through every single person in your location to find you. IP alone isn't really enough to be incriminating; neither is a phone number area code or a fairly unique first name. But if you are able to stack evidence together it can make things shockingly easy.

For example, I tracked my own IP address from Skype to see how easy it was. You don't need internet savvy or extra programs and software, you need Google and a Skype username. With only those two things in mind I looked up my own IP address, and it pinpointed an area only blocks from my actual location. Well shit, that's terrifying! It doesn't really give anyone any extra information about me, though, does it? But now say someone looked that up already knowing some things about me. I talk about eating at In-n-Out a lot so that narrows it down to 5 states, possibly confirming (or at least adding weight to) my alleged location. I also sometimes drink out of a Whataburger cup, and the only two states that have a Whataburger (edit: as well as an In-n-Out) are Texas and Arizona. Now say someone has come into my room before and said, "Hey I recognize you-- you're Jessykah!" before I can ban them.

Any of these things on its own isn't particularly compromising, but when you add stuff together-- a 21-24 year old female named Jessykah from Arizona or Texas. Add the IP address and boom. Narrows down the search SIGNIFICANTLY. And if you think there aren't people who do this you're completely wrong. I've actually had people admit to me that they had tried their damnedest to look me up based on things they knew or surmised about me-- claiming they were "just curious". Awesome, dude, that's monstrously creepy! Even besides those people I've had some folks remember the most random things, stuff I forgot I had mentioned on cam-- the month of my brother's birthday, or the make and model of the first car I owned. You might not be one of those people but they do exist, even if they have no ill intent.

Although of course it would have to be the perfect storm-- someone who paid enough attention, model not using a VPN, a member who was intent on causing harm or distress to the model-- that doesn't mean one shouldn't take precautions. MOST people aren't crazy stalkers but you cannot tell which ones are. MOST people won't open my door and steal everything I own but I still lock my doors. MOST people don't want to mug me but I still carry pepper spray on my keychain.

This should probably be in the "Terrifying things members do" thread.

Using a vpn always seemed like a waste of money to me. If some crazy stalker wants your info he would probably just smash his way into the site and take it. He can't really do that with skype.

It's a million times easier to lift an IP address than hack a site like MFC.

First of all, a VPN costs very little on an annual basis. I currently don't use one at home, but I have one on my phone and laptop. My account allows for multiple devices, so it wouldn't cost me anything to use one at home other than having a slower connection. Anyway, for anyone who, because of their online presence is likely to become attractive to obsessives, VPNs, while not bulletproof, are an added level of security. "Crazy stalkers" vary in technical sophistication, and there's no reason to make their lives any easier by practicing lax security.

Debatable but what good does a ip address do for the creep? General location? If I was a model that wanted to waste time worrying about stuff that most likely won't ever happen, I'd spend time worrying about guys taking info from the sites.

Did you read ANYTHING in my post above? I stated SPECIFICALLY that the IP address, BY ITSELF, is not very dangerous, BUT MOST PEOPLE KNOW MORE INFORMATION THAN THE IP ADDRESS.

I see your point and everything, but it's kind of pointless to worry about members taking information from the sites we work on since we can't really do anything about that. General Skype security, though, is something we can at least try to be proactive about.

I don't know why it matters so much, it's not like taking a few extra precautions ever hurt anyone.

It's the little things that can add up, i agree. But honestly the biggest mistake I see done quite often is photos. Either photos in the gallery, tweets or just screenshots from being on cam. If they are taken with a view of outside your house, maybe sitting by your pool in the backyard, showing the sunset out your front porch, the weird dog next door... That's by far the biggest security risk there is.

Combine that with the simple little things added up over time. Things like mentioning what state you live in, what city, having a general area for delivery on Amazon wishlists. Hell, even as little as you mentioning a big storm outside is enough to narrow it down if someone pulls up a nationwide weather map and limits it down to a few states or less. That major lightning storm? Yeah, you can pull up lightning maps even.

Combined with those little clues that photo can lead someone directly to your front door with less than an hours worth of work.

Don't do that. Consider pictures taken outdoors within a few miles from your house to be off limits and never to be transmitted in any form. Even if it's a really cute kitty pic and you just have to update your Tumblr. DON'T!

To me, the IP address is not even worth mentioning compared to how many times I see models camming outside their house or posting pics of it.

Oh, and Lily, I carry mace too, as well as other things.

That makes perfect sense, thanks I kinda get it now.

Honestly, the biggest security risk I've seen is models camming with their friends (esp girls who only got an account so they could be on MFC with their model friend and not get them in trouble) and getting drunk together. They blurt out real names, boyfriend names, pretty much everything but social security numbers and Google maps directions to their houses. I've seen it more than once. Ladies, if your friend is a chatty drunk, it might be wise not to cam with her.

On the debate about Skype and myfreecams and what's worse for your security, well finding your IP while on a skype call is pretty easy. It just takes going to the right website. And in the wrong hands they can do a fair amount with that. I've had it happen to me very casually and I've heard of it happening many many times.

Hacking into myfreecams and finding model information? I have never once heard of that. I've never seen a thread where a model is frantic because a dude found info of her on site. The info that the guys have got has always been from things like Skype, Amazon, e-mails and other lax security on her part and a bit of delving on his. Maybe it does happen, maybe it has happened, but I have never seen it happen or heard of it happen. I know that there have been glitches in shows where people have hacked into those, but not actual security stuff. On myfreecams for a member to find any form of billing information about me they'd also have to hack onto my e-mail, which isn't an e-mail I have open to anyone on myfreecams, nor is it a standard e-mail address. It's also not an e-mail that myfreecams has written anywhere on the model login. It has a few letters of it with stars covering the rest.

I'm sure myfreecams could be hacked, but I also think if it were that easy it'd happen all the time. There are a lot of very tech savvy people who come to myfreecams. It is the sort of place that attracts people who spend a lot of time at the computer, it also attracts men who can be obsessive and mean harm towards women. Fortunately it also attracts a lot of cool dudes, but it does still attract the others. I've heard some of the crazy stuff some members have done to models. I think if it were even close to being easy for them to hack into the site to get information about models then they would find the way.

This can also happen if you're not drunk and/or not camming together.
A friend of mine who I cammed with twice because she wanted to try it was camming alone at her home a couple days later. I watched and at some point she was talking about how I'd shown her MFC. Let's assume my first name is Anna. She said "Anna... uh, I mean Lily..." :woops: :woops: :woops:
Obviously my heart sunk quite a bit and I was super pissed at her for a pretty long time. Especially after I'd drilled the fact that she can't say my name on cam into her head like 27 times before we'd gotten on cam together. :angry4:

Asking for your Skype name without tipping! While there are plenty of guys who will tip tokens ahead of time for a Skype show, a lot of the guys who ask for your Skype info are timewasters who want to chat/Skype with me for free. I won't give out my Skype name unless a member tips tokens for a show first.

This is why if I ever go on cam with another cam girl even if I know their real name I'll continue using their cam name even off cam, otherwise it runs the risk of me accidentally fucking up and getting confused about which name I'm calling them.

Obviously, you don't Geoblock if someone has come in and recognized you. Then again, geoblocking also lends credence to the state in the US you live in, probably more than anything else. Geoblocking states means the model either lives there or knows a lot of people/has family there.

As for finding an IP address through just google and a Skype ID, well, I guess it depends on a few factors and a fairly specific search term if Google itself brought it up. Just going through Google, itself, did not bring me up my IP address when I used a few search terms involving my Skype ID... which is the same as here. And it's my twitter handle and it is used by me all over the web. Just searching for unclethursday yields over 50k results. Even trying to narrow it down didn't help, as it would still bring up thousands of results. Now, using other terms, I was able to get better ability to find my IP, but I won't go into those terms. But, they still didn't exactly give me my IP address, just a means to potentially find it.

I also never said people out there don't try... but your average person really isn't going to be bothered. The people trying it and telling you they did it 'out of curiosity' were seeking attention or might not be completely in the sanity boat with the majority of us. Anyone who is dead set on finding out where someone else lives that they met on the internet for any reason probably also has most of their body hanging off that boat.

But, like you said, in most cases, you need a perfect storm of things to happen... and someone obsessed enough to try to put everything together.

Heavily regional food chains are something people can tune into. In-N-Out is a West Coast thing, mainly. We don't have them on the East Coast, that I am aware, but I did eat at one in LA, once. Carl's Jr is also more west coast, over here they were known as Hardees. The only person I know (besides you) who ever talked about Whataburger was in Texas, but I don't care enough to check to see if the chain is a southwestern thing or not. Maybe if I'm ever in TX and see one I'll see if the burgers are any good.

But, even the two states you mentioned would be fairly hard to find someone, for the most part. Without the uniqueness of the name (and whether that is your real name or not, I don't care), we have to remember just how much open land there is in both states. Especially Texas. And, even with more rural towns, we also have to remember that broadband is centered around the major population centers of those states. Places like Phoenix and Tucson, or Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston. You aren't having any sort of camming ability if you're out someplace in those states that only has 56k as the choice of net access (well, satellite access is the only other option).

But like I said, those are major population areas. Phoenix has almost 1.5 million people. Houston has over 2 million. So, without something much more precise, it's virtually impossible to try and even triangulate on a single person without that perfect storm you spoke of.

As to locking your door, well, yeah, most people do. I haven't locked the door to my house in forever... not because I live in some haven from crime, but it is a low crime area and between the three of us who live in this house, someone is always home and awake at all times during the day and night. And we all have easy enough access to my gun. The only time the house is locked is when we are sure absolutely no one will be home and/or awake.

I'm not saying to not take precautions, like using a VPN or something. But when you hear people repeating FUD, like getting an IP address is like a homing beacon to your home, it gets to be a bit much.

The other thing MANY people forget to do, especially when taking cell phone photos, is to turn off geolocation when taking them. It's embedded in the metadata of the photo. It's also a quite bit easier to get than a lot of other information about you.

And, yes, camming outside is probably the worst. One model is outside in her front yard almost every day she is on. That's a huge security risk if people with the want and obsessiveness care to look at her neighbor's houses. IF they have some inkling of the town she lives in, then things like Google Maps could find it with street view. Look for parked cars and houses that are pretty constantly on cam and it would be easy, provided they had enough to narrow down a town from other means.

I can't imagine the MFC model fallout that would occur if MFC required girls to have the specs that SM requires for their higher quality streams. Some days when scrolling through girls' rooms on MFC I am pretty sure they are running their software or broadcaster from a potato. I feel like MFC is set up to accept a wider array of models who may or may not have very good computers to stream from.

I'm not necessarily saying go to the length SM does with it's requirements. But, it would be nice if there were more options for members and models when it came to cam stream resolutions. If the site could do higher resolutions, without stopping the lower resolutions from working, it would be a help for those models who do have good cams, computers and internet speeds while not excluding the ones who don't at the time. It's not like SM has only 720p and higher cams. Still plenty of 4:3 aspect ratio cams that still look better than MFC. They probably use 1280x960, though. Still not HD, but still better than 640x480.

Even with things like my videos on YouTube, now that I have the ability to do 1080p videos (1920x1080), I try to do as much as I can at that resolution. Obviously, my recording equipment has some limitations, such as recording my Twitch streams maxes the resolution out at 720p, or when I do a vlog video I only go to 720p. But I have the option, so I exercise it as much as possible.

So, if given the option to have a better cam stream, wouldn't you or any other model with the technical capability take it?

If it's the same model I'm thinking of (Tim the pizza guy should ring a bell), then I honestly don't think she cares if people know where she lives. She's done so many shows from her front yard, back yard, driving around her neighborhood, her car dealership, gone to all the local places starting out from her house so people could see turn by turn how to get there... Plus she's advertised doing stints on local radio shows...plays those stations on cam that flat out mention her city. No, i have a feeling she's not worried about people knowing her location.

No Idea. I just see her linked in the lounge 10k and her preview is always her in her garage with it open or in her front yard. I want to say very often in a pink bikini top, so she's someplace fairly warm all year round.

I'm one of those odd lounge people, though, that generally just cycles through those on my own list over every girl on cam at the time. But I'll still check the preview pics at times.

Yep, that's the same one.

I'd be wary of any dude that asks for skype shows within the first day of being in your room. A regular you've known for months that wants real privacy? Sure but not the dudes that come in and say "skype?" right away. I've seen dudes who only seem to know two words. Anus bb and skype bb.

While I have never heard of anything on MFC, I have seen a cam site get compromised before (it was a simple bypass to see submitted information...I don't think the site is around anymore though, it would have been close to 4 years ago and the post was floating around on a few forums). It is a bit concerning though that MFC doesn't use the most up to date security practices (I know this only due to my password being sent to my email address every time I purchase tokens, this is actually a big issue for myself and I hope MFC addresses this one day). Just want to stress I think MFC's security is likely pretty good, I just makes me nervous when any companies doesn't salt and hash passwords. With that said, Skype definitely is easier to get a persons IP address.

Personally I am iffy on IP addresses being risky....there are probably many models who need to be careful about it due to the risk (however I know that last time I checked my IP address it still puts me in a different timezone).

Back on topic though:
Members who insist on talking in PM even when the model is responding to them through regular chat
Members who decide to make yellow walls when there is already a fair amount of tipping occurring and a healthy conversation (It sucks having to sit on your hands to have someone finish doing their yellow wall)
Any emote that is bigger than the standard :)
Members who decide what your tip was for (and then sometimes the reaction of the member when you inform them your tip was meant for not for the topic)

Any time someone I don't know comes in and immediately asks me "skype?" I automatically assume that at best they're either an idiot and/or lazy as it's listed on my profile that I don't do them, or at worst they're trying to scam me or get me to do a show at a ridiculous bargain basement discount.
I don't have the time or patience for any one of those things.

I hate it when guys who have really slow internet/crap computers constantly moan about myfreecams cam quality.

I don't think it's Internet/Computers. I can receive at least six HD chaturbate webcam perfectly (even when there is 6,000 connections in a room) but I've never correctly received the sound of any MFC models, it always has been broken (though I don't see the point to moan about that to models).

One of the models I like has a room that just stopped working for me one day, it just stutters so badly I cannot even tell what she is saying most of the time. It has to be working for other people or she would be able to make a living. It is not my connection either, because I can open up another MFC window and it will be fine. MFC has some problems that I do not understand in their servers.
Hence I don't use MFC anymore, I can never follow a discussion or understand the answer when I ask something. Too frustrating.

MFC also uses the lowest possible codecs and stream quality. Max resolution is 640x480 (for their *cough* HD setting *cough*), which is standard definition television resolution. Compare that to Streamate, where at least full 720p (1280x720 resolution) is supported, if not 1080p resolution. Sure, some cams CAN look good on MFC, but those same cams will look worlds better if done on SM or Skype or anything else that will support the actual resolutions of the cam being used.

MFC's cam quality IS bad, overall. There's no question about it. There's not much the models can do, though, when MFC, itself, won't upgrade its infrastructure. And they have little reason to, right now, since they are still making money hand over fist with the current cam quality. If business were to drop down and Leo found out the reason was that the members wanted better cam quality, then he'd consider upping the infrastructure of the streaming part of the site. Until then, though, he has no real reason to, business wise.
Such a shame. I've never been to Streamate, but if I compare to CT where the people watching can go up to 6-7 thousands, this is the worst infrastructure ever. And since I don't think CT is making as much money as MFC, I don't think it would cost them a lot.

Though I agree that myfreecams does have a lot of technical errors which happen pretty frequently, I'm talking about members who actually have shit computers/connections even when not on myfreecams.
My computer is so shitty that I can't play LilyMarie's high-res videos

Have you ever bought one from me? I have to say, my computer is pretty shitty (4 years old, 4 GB RAM) and it plays my videos perfectly.
