I know most, if not all of you would say it's both, but if you hád to choose, would you consider being on camsites more of a social thing or more for entertainment?

I recently had a conversation with someone about this who said, "I spend about the same amount of money per night on a girl as I would if I would have bought her a drink in a bar, and if I like her, maybe more drinks, and if I visit her room more, about what it would cost to take her out to dinner" For him, being a member of MFC is a part of his social life, and in a way a substitute for socialising irl with girls. I've got the feeling it's like this for a large portion of members, at least, that's what I'm picking up from a large part of my MFC friends.
However, on this forum I often read about the comparison with paying for entertainment like netflix, tv, games. I get that too, so I'm just very curious, what would you consider it more to be?

It's... both :)

When I first started on MFC it was purely for entertainment. Sexual entertainment specifically. Over time, I became less bothered about the sex stuff, and came to view it as more of a social site, a virtual gathering of attractive ladies and likeminded pervs with whom I can come hang out with at the end of a long work day or on a day off.

Over the last nine months or so I've kinda been plagued by a mystery illness and resultant anxiety, so what used to be a couple of nights out/social gatherings a week for me, has become maybe one social gathering a month and the occasional music gig/night out. So right now, I'm definitely relying on MFC as a social outlet waaaay more than a source of masturbatory entertainment. But that's not to say it still doesn't serve that function from time to time.

The Netflix comparison only really applies to a model's content I think. Videos, pic sets, SnapChat, etc., it's all passive entertainment that, if you can afford it is a nice bonus, but for most folk (I would guess), it's not what keeps them coming back to the site - the main draw of a site like MFC is the social element, and it's the company you bbs provide that I ultimately tip for :twocents-02cents:

I selected entertainment ,even though I enjoy the social aspect as well. I do enjoy, sometimes, just hanging out in a model friends room but for me, the only interaction is on site. I don't follow or interact with any of my model friends outside of MFC. So I can't really consider social aspect to be equal to the entertainment aspect.

Entertainment. As you said, most of us would select both, but it's more entertainment for me. I only have a few models I social with. The rest I'm just watching for anticipated entertainment. If I don't get that entertainment in one room, I move to the next.

I really enjoy the social part of watching cams. I spend way more time in rooms perving on girls whom I know personally and/or want to meet someday, than girls who I've never met or don't think I can meet. It feels sorta like in The Sims when you call a friend on the phone to buff up relationship points. When I stop in to watch a girl and tip her, I think about our friendship bar getting more green, and the likelihood of us hanging out increasing.

Does that make me a creep? It sounds super creepy when I type it out.

If you were a member as opposed to a model, I suspect it probably would be :p

Many models exhibit the same behavior they consider creepy from a regular member towards each other, but because they are a model too it is somehow socially acceptable. Rather hypocritical of them, but I get it. It is better to see models become friends anyway, rather than the opposite when models feud or get jealous of each other.

Socialization vs entertainment depends on what cam site I am on, and who's room I am in. With models who have their own websites, it is work first before anything else, and socialization second. Watching to make promotional content, discussing site updates, and expanding my social network for work purposes. Though there's one model in that group I really call a friend, where we know all of each others real personal information. Then it is primarily for socialization first when I talk to her.

Otherwise, I suppose it is for entertainment. But hard to differentiate because my socialization outside of work is generally for the purpose of my own entertainment. There's 3 MFC rooms where I could be considered a regular. In those rooms, I mainly joke around or ask unusual questions, to make myself laugh or expand on a subject that interests me. The social portions are more entertaining to me, than the "show" portions. I don't generally care if a model is nude or non-nude, sitting or dancing around. Whatever works for me as long as I feel like I can relate to the people and my mind is kept engaged.

I actually stopped and thought about the models whose room's I visit for entertainment vs socially, social won out by one model. There was one particular model, apparently no longer camming, in who's room I enjoyed visiting the most. She knew about my wounds, I'd shared them with her in her room- where it happened, how many of us were there, how many came back home, etc- and she told me about her brother who is a Marine and where he had served. She didn't have the highest camscore and struggled to get members to visit her room but regardless of the show she was putting on at that particular time she always acknowledged me when I entered; I can't lie, she made me feel special and for that time she was on I didn't feel wounded anymore, as dumb as it sounds I felt whole again for the first time some three years. It was fun to see her, to talk to her, to tell each other the corniest jokes we knew and it felt good to laugh again...maybe even to live a little again. Once a premium member came into her room and complained about "that damn freeloader" and how she ought to mute or ban "that lazy bastard." She let him know quick, fast and in a hurry that I had paid much more than he ever could and she didn't appreciate anyone telling her how to run her room. I'll never forget that and how much it meant to me. She later got married and stopped camming, too bad she stopped because in her own way she was as gorgeous as anyone on that site and had a better personality than most.

Aw shit, now I'm tearing up...damn onions. I voted social.

As another poster said, when I started on MFC, it was all entertainment. I was there to wank. Changed pretty quickly though, when I realized the same guys go to the same models' rooms everyday. Actually became legit friends with another prem. There are also two models I talk to daily off MFC, but rarely visit their rooms. I appreciate the social aspect with them.

If I am talking to a model I "know" then I am there for social entertainment. I act the complete opposite of my real self. I am actually quite shy, but on MFC I let it all out and say whatever the hell I want, as long as it gets a laugh (even if the laugher is me).

When I first discovered "the world of camming", it was through Streamate. It was purely an entertainment thing. There was a model that I visited a few times, and I found out that she originally used to cam on MFC. It piqued my interest and I went to check MFC out. Over time, I have actually realized that the social aspect of MFC is a huge factor for me. There's no doubt that the "entertainment" side is still important to me too, but I feel that if the social portion wasn't there I probably would have disappeared a long time ago.

Instead of saying "both" I will say that I find the social aspect to be the entertainment factor. For me, of course. Everyone is different.

Personally, it started out as mostly a social thing because a model from another site brought me to MFC and I met some awesome people. Those social relationships eventually faded for various reasons, so now it's basically for entertainment.

I miss the old MFC when camscores didn't ultimately rule the day.

This.

The entertainment factor declined rapidly as the novelty wore off. I'd have quit MFC after a month had I not made some good friends, both models & members.
