One thought that occurs to me, but takes us a bit away from the gender politics that are being discussed, is the fact that these shows are designed to elicit certain reactions from certain types of people. Producers employ folks like demographers and psychologists and skilled writers and editors in order to filter the material into narratives that may or may not actually be happening, which attract certain people to watch it unironically. But make no mistake: it's total fabrication. People who are so invested into this narrative to want to call in and voice their opinions are, frankly, putting forth the least objectively reliable reactions. They are the people who totally and willfully suspended disbelief. They call Hazel a manipulative slut because that's how she's been painted in the minds of these people. This reaction might be lost on you because you're an anomaly that falls far enough away from the target that the cues might be lost on you, but I'd be willing to wager that if you went back and looked a bit harder at how they'd set up the mechanics of her "character" arc, you'd find the markers that prompt people to be so disapproving of her and so forgiving of the philanderer. It's soap operas.

And whoa! I hope that wasn't addressed to me but to the OP. lol I was only responding to the general comments about women; I don't know jack about Big Brother, UK or US. I tried to watch it once and fell into a deep sleep that lasted forty years, and when I finally woke, I had a beard to my toes and all of my friends and family were history.

The only entertainment value I've ever taken from any version of Big Brother, is some of the decent voyeur porn that has come out of them.

Buuuut I'm not that into these type of reality shows.

If you were a black male and someone pointed out that it's been scientifically proven that your race is stupid (which was once considered a scientific fact) you would take offense.

When you spend your entire life considered "less than" along with others like you because of whatever reason, you don't see the joke. And clearly the women aren't the only ones who didn't see it.

Yes, women do indeed seem to hate other women.

I will say this:

-if she really did know that he had a girlfriend, then she is just as much to blame for him cheating as he is.
-when you play with fire, you're going to get burned. If you tease a drunk man, you'd better be ready to play.
-I always want to know if the woman knew that the man was taken. If she knew, then yes, she's partially at fault. If she didn't know, then she's not at fault.

At the same time, I can't really say much considering some things that I don't wish to share on here. Vagueness... I know a couple very very strong relationships where the girl who's currently with the guy started off as being the girl on the side. I'm talking people calling the couple soul-mates and shit. Though, in each of these cases, the main girlfriend back then knew about the girl-on-the-side, and gave her blessings for it, then later leaves the guy in question... so I dunno if it's similar...

Also I agree with zippy - I don't watch Big Brother but I know there's a girl on the American one right now who is apparently a huge racist. Every week I see friends on Twitter complaining about her and how much they hate her - but they still tune in every week! I don't think that TV producers really care WHY you're watching, so much that you are watching at all. I mean, like I said I don't watch the show but I know the girl's name and about all the shitty things she says...so it's obviously getting them publicity.
