This reminds me of a story from a few years back: Several strippers at a "Gentlemen's Club" got together to raise money to buy toys for underprivileged kids at Christmas. I'm not sure if it was to contribute to "Toys for Tots", or something else. The main point was the organization had a loud and public debate on whether to accept this "dirty" money. The same thing happens every year when the various Hell's Angles do their toy drives.

As far as Sasha is concerned, as long as she's not reading gang-bang stories, what's the big deal? I've seen pictures of her when she's not in her "porn persona", and she looks like a demure teenager. You have to look at the big picture, though. In the last 10 years or so, there has been a trend towards "Zero Tolerance" where ever minors are concerned. Schools, hospitals, day-cares, etc. Guns/weapons, drugs, sex-crimes are all red flags. Unfortunately, "sex-workers" are lumped in with the "sex-crime" group. This cannot be news to anybody here. Is it fair? Hell no. Recently there was an aspiring teacher who posted FB pictures of her at a keg party, drinking beer. She was denied a teaching certificate, and she believes that played a part. Then there was the elementary student suspended because he brought a Cub-Scout eating utensil to school. Similar to a Swiss-Army gadget, it had a spoon, fork, and knife. Both of these cases illustrate that when a "zero-tolerance" net is cast, innocents will sometimes snagged by the net. Again, is this fair"? Again, hell no.

From my perspective, I look at Sasha's charity work as a marketing ploy. Like the strippers for toys, like the Hell's Angels efforts, these are attempts to "rehabilitate an image" that they know is somewhat "unsavory" in the (unenlightened) public's eye. I think if Sasha really wanted to do "good works", she could have done so without any publicity. It could have been as simple as writing a check, signing up as anonymously as possible, or choosing to go in to this without her agent and TMZ following close behind her. But what do I know, I'm just a cynic.

Yes but that raises the question - if someone does pornography/escorting/adult work are they then tainted for the rest of their lives? Soandso once blew a guy on film so 20 years later she can't be a teacher? Sasha didn't do anything illegal by making porn, isn't a known sex offender, nor (to anyone's knowledge) a danger to children. Why should porn and children never meet? I guess since I had my first playboy in like 1st grade and when I hit puberty, there was the internet. I don't see a problem with it. School ignored sex for the most part. Parents don't want to talk about it. What else do you expect? It's a logical thing.

I don't see a problem with this at all, for a few reasons.

1. Pornography is NOT A CRIME. These people getting uptight are acting like she's a child molester or murderer. She's performed with her consent, in 100% legal pornographic movies. She was not tricked, drugged, or forced into doing anything in her movies against her will. While she doesn't come out front an introduce herself as "Sasha Grey, former pornstar", she isn't embarrassed or ashamed of her work ither.

2. Based on interviews and biographies I've read (TMZ being no exception), she's an extremely intelligent human being. One of the reasons she chose to get into porn is to abolish North Americans' taboos and spark casual conversation about sexual behaviour. By reading to children and getting tabloids to talk about her past - which she is NOT ashamed of - people are doing exactly that.

3. How does her past make it so that she's not able to read to schoolchildren? She's reading a children's book to them and not talking about her former career. I imagine if the kids asked her about that, she'd use her best judgment and answer the questions appropriately.

Grey was born in 1988, meaning she's only 24 years old. She has very strong opinions about sex and has a lot of time left in her life to share them. I honestly believe historians in the future will look back on her with the same fondness as Marilyn Monroe - a sex symbol who changed society's perceptions on that very topic.
