What do you say to members who are overly insistent or interested in finding out your real name?
I know I don’t “Have” to say anything, but I’m just curious how other models respond to this, because some of them introduce themselves and then get almost offended when I give them my same cam name, particularly in pvts or on a google voice text line. I’m loathe to be “rude” because I feel like it will set a bad standard for my room dynamic, but then again it’s in private, so should I care?? (Clearly I’m a big noob )
I never had this problem, but that could be because I'm a guy. I recognize you ladies deal with an inordinate amount of bullshit, and some guy pestering you for personal information is just that.
I've always felt like there's this implicit social contract in camming/adult media: you don't ask personal info, you realize that there is reality and then there is fantasy, etc. We play characters - part of our job is to make viewers forget this, but
not to dispose of the idea altogether. Unfortunately, a lot of men who watch cam-shows/porn don't observe these very basic norms. You don't owe
anyone information that could potentially be used to dox you, blackmail you, sabotage your day job, relationships, and reputation. If a viewer cannot understand why that's sensitive information, they aren't ready to be surfing cam-sites. *Sigh* I wish there was a mandatory etiquette class upon sign-up for viewers/fans.
I get not wanting to disappoint fans, and I get lax attitudes about privacy (I mean, personally I wouldn't really care if people knew that I make adult content) BUT it's still important to protect your privacy: you never know how it can be leveraged against you, and really it's just principle: we, as models and producers, need to set a standard that says a violation of privacy is under no circumstances acceptable. We do this for all of us - the entire community.
As an aside, I'd be really concerned about a specific guy who
really "needs" to know your real name. Like, why?
