I've started using Discord in the past few months and so far I'm loving it. It has far more features than skype and by using the Discord App I'm inline with customers who have more disposable income than most..gamers. I'm also a gamer and a complete technophile therefore it's an easy transition for me, but I do understand that it may not be as easy for some people to adapt. I have several skype customers that just can't wrap their heads around shifting to alternative services.

But we shouldn't panic because these policies can be re-worked and re-worded once they review all of the push back surrounding these changes. So far Discord as far I can see is the only one to define their stance on adult content as recently as today. I wrote an article about it a few months ago with new policy updates if anyone would like to check it out Discord, The New Skype Alternative For Cammodels I'm currently working on some other alternatives as well.

I follow a few groups on discord. Some Business Adult. They have channels within their group that specify NSFW. I'm curious if they will continue to be able to host their platform there. I'm watching diligently. I honestly feel that it's only a matter of time... I do have a channel ready to build, as soon as I know either way.

There is another tool, like Discord. It's called Telegram. I'm also a part of Adult Business groups there. They specifically say they don't look or watch your channel. I don't know if they have streaming like Skype yet, but I know they just got a lot of community funding (Billions!) and are planning on adding a lot of new features. Most crypto companies use Telegram, because they cannot be shut down. The founder of the company provided his own financial resources, and they don't rely on any outside advertising.......

Their representative on Twitter made a mistake. It only violates their community gulidlines if minors are involved.

"Sharing content related to minors that is sexually suggestive or violent. Do not share or post links to images that depict minors or underage individuals engaged in violent, sexually suggestive, pornographic, shameful, or otherwise inappropriate situations."

I'm gonna trust the person who actually works at Discord and take their answer for what it is.
The way I read the TOS is when they say *otherwise objectionable* (I'm thinking "otherwise" as in: in circumstances different from those present or considered) they mean things that haven't already been stated in the TOS and chose to go more in depth in the guidelines about stuff that they've probably had specific instances of occurring. Everyone is going to interpret their TOS in a different way - but that statement from their Twitter leads me to definitely have no interest or trust in Discord. It seems like a great platform but there is nothing stopping them from turning their back on adult like many other companies have done.

Discord is pretty great for gaming and stuff like that, but as far as I know no one has used it for straight up sex work for any longer period of time so it is probably best to do as you say and be careful about it.

Goodness, companies really need to reel in their support representatives. So much false information being stated lately by various companies' Twitter accounts.

They'll be able to monitor your calls for nudity/inappropriate content and ban you if they see fit.

I'm sorry to hear this - I know that a LOT of you make a lot of your income via Skype private sessions. That sucks. Yet another blow to our industry.

That said, I have to admit....on a selfish and personal level, whew am I relieved, ha! I hate c2c privates (just way too intimate for me + I've had only bad experiences with them) and explicitly state in my 'rules' that I do not do them. My refusal to do one led to my first hard-core stalking incident. Now I can finally tell the dudes that blow up my email, cam chat, and DMs that Skype won't allow it anymore.

Jokes aside, this sucks. Best wishes to everyone.

I wonder why sites like MFC don't make a Skype, type service.. One where for however many tokens, or for free, you could c2c with someone, through their platform, never having to leave their site.
(Not a Private/True Private) as those cost members a lot of money and models don't always want to charge their regulars so much!)(And sometimes you might feel someone deserves a freebie.)
(Similarly, why hasn't MFC made a male cam model, "sister-site" or something!?)
Sites are slippin'! Get on it mfc! :p

(I'm not sure if there is or isn't already a workaround on mfc. Such as, can a model c2c with a member from the main page without going live?)
(Because, if so, all of this is irrelevant. And my bad.)

These new laws (or whatever) are terrible! I can't tell you how many Dancers and Ladies of the Night, that I've turned on to camming! It's empowering these women. It's literally saving their lives!

The camming industry needs to be protected! Because most of us really want to cam! And we are in complete control over ourselves!

In contrast to the girls who end up on (Hot Girls Wanted-, The one about young girls getting used up and spit out by the 'wrong side of the industry'.)

I have nothing against that side of the industry, since, it's all legal and consensual. But compared to camming that side is horrible! Or it looks horrible. Girls go in confident and come out broken and broke.
(And this happens at the very beginning of early adulthood. Having repercussions that these girls can't really comprehend. How could they!)

I just wonder, how bad those websites, ran by like one dude, but profiting off of endless fresh faces (that come and go quickly, usually.) is affecting people's perception of camming.

I hope they know that I'm dying to log in and cam! I love it. I do it all on my own. I would be homeless and starving without it. Not only do I love it, but I need it!
And there is a market for it. There's something especially good to be said, about the people that enjoy a cam model just being themselves, versus a quick porno of a girl eating her own vomit, because some guy told her that's what they are filming today.

I would advertise camming as the best job ever! But obviously, we don't need all that competition!

For the life of me, I can't figure out who they are trying to protect! When stunting the cam industry would hurt so many people!

I don't know how relevant this is, but I randomly signed up for and downloaded Discord, on an older laptop, now the computer keeps flickering on and off. I'm almost positive it has everything to do with Discord. Being an old dinosaur myself, it is already making me super angry! My friend advertised it to me as a place to chat and c2c. So far it's just breaking my computer. I know that some people are already successfully using it. But I just don't see how we can ask even the most regular-regulars to try something so different. When they (and usually we) are super comfortable on the platforms that we already use.

I messed around with the Discord app a bit when my gaming group (100+ members) decided to try it (we left it for another app called Band). I agree there's something really intrusive & buggy about Discord (also seems pretty user unfriendly). I said the same thing about facebook years ago and, sure enough, word comes out they were (are?) making money out of selling your personal info (e.g. to Cambridge Analytics). Seems unbelievable they could say no nudity or whatever on private video conferencing. That's like saying they will monitor phone calls for 'dirty talk' or something! Ah, well. Life is strange.

So, what would happen to me if I continued to use Skype for sex shows? Would I just have my Skype account closed down? I feel like that's the point where I would explore alternatives, and geez, if I'm this crotchety about it, I wonder about my grandpa-ish fan base...

Thing is... Cam shows aren't illegal. I don't really care if I get caught doing consentual adult things. Almost makes me want to do it more.

And while I agree I feel they will staple the shows to the list of "Things where sex industry people discuss potentially illegal things."

the only circumstance I could see for shutting someone down is if a disgruntled 'customer' raised a stink, sort of like they've done on Paypal (due to chargebacks?) can't believe they'd randomly watch peoples' live video conferencing!? well, some stalker bent on making your life miserable could also screenshot texts, webpages, etc. and send to Microsoft, too? Guess one has to be cleverly discrete and blame it on a boyfriend gone sour but who knows who'd they believe?

They don't have a video chat yet, but the platform is great. I especially love the secret chat feature - however, I believe all chats are encrypted and protected. People even sell stuff there, like pot and whatnot :D

It's been founded by the guy who created the biggest CIS social network (VK) and then got dumped from there (as I've heard). Oh well, he created Telegram. Aaaaand it was blocked in Russia yesterday :D Right away he claimed they're working on the app to be functioning there without any vpn headache. Hope guys in Russia will have it back soon :)

So I'm thinking eventually Telegram could be an interesting tool for a cammodel to work with. So far it's good for texting and audio calls. Half of my social stuff is in there.

ETA: I love that you can send video and audio short (or long) clips with one tap, along with sending ready videos, so it could be an option for Kik alike sessions (although, I don't even know if you can send videos in kik, can you? I just use the chat feature).

I can guarantee you that Discord is not breaking your computer. If it turns off and goes back on again you are most likely experiencing some hardware issues.

Discord wasn't designed with video conferencing in mind, it was made as a competitor to Ventrilo, Teamspeak and Mumble and its main purpose is to let gamers talk to each other while playing games and compared to those it is really user friendly. Personally I think Discord is easy to use, but I have used voice communication software for over 15 years so I might not understand what challenges a new user faces using the software. I thought band was a mobile app so I have never tried that one and I don't know anyone who uses it.

This interview with Telegram's founder suggests that it might not be a particularly sex work-friendly platform:

Starting at 6:25, Durov explains that Telegram has been blocking porn bots in countries where porn is prohibited. Makes sense, I guess, but he also goes on to say "we are not big fans of porn, we don't want Telegram to be perceived as a source of porn." It's unclear whether or how this position may end up affecting cam models. Telegram is also not the best application in terms of privacy. Another app, Signal, uses the most secure encryption protocol and is widely recommended among security experts. Signal also supports voice and video messages, and is available as a desktop app, but is unfortunately not as widely used as other messengers.

Imagine if your phone/mobile provider came up with a rule that any dirty talking, phone sex or other use of inappropriate language (no more using the F-word over the phone) will get you banned from their network. (Sure, Skype allows video and phones are only audio, but that's the only real difference.... I really don't get this anti-sex work crusade. Why does it bother people so much what others do?)

I get almost all my shows on Skype, but luckily most of them are non-nude so even if there was a way to widely enforce this nonsense, it probably wouldn't apply to those unless someone at Skype considers the idea of a girl wearing a mini skirt too racy. I wonder what's going to happen to sites like SkyPrivate, though.

This FOSTA thing drives me nuts already. The term offensive is too easily used as a weapon of choice to aggressively shut down a discourse.
Are there any expectations for Canada to follow suit? I'm not aware of any similar current legislation specifically regarding online sex, but I wonder if this might become a trend?

Hi, there are two "go to" legal experts, that I know of that actually work for the adult community. I'm very sure they have online blogs and posts that relate to this matter, and unlike me, they actually know what they're talking about:) The first one is Corey Silverstein aka Your Adult Attorney, and the second one is Michael Fattorosi aka Pornlaw. In addition, there's Eric from the Free Speech Coalition, who's an awesome and important person by his own right. I'd suggest to Google these guys, and check if they already posted about this topic. I hope this helps, and does not add to the confusion by my casual name dropping tantrum.

This triggered me a little bit. Like this sounds really sus. Is there a particular reason why they’re doing this? Is this because sex workers are profiting from their free(-ish) platform or something? I would kind of understand if it had something to do with disabling predators.

Microsoft has always disallowed adult content\nudity on Skype. The article is misleading. The only thing that has changed is them now disallowing "offensive language".
