I started my juice fast last night with a fruit, berry and VAGGIE blend.

Fellow vagitarian here too, never tried blending one though. Juicing them on the the other hand...
It takes the right equipment but totally worth the efforts in the end. ;)

 Hello. I'm Lucy. And I like juicing garlic and onions...

I own a Breville Juice Fountain Elite. I :h: it.

The two main juicer choices before buying are Masticating or Centrifugal. A GreenStar would be a high end masticating one, the Breville is centrifugal. Masticating juicers take quite a bit longer to extract juices, but the AMOUNT of juice extracted is noticeably more, especially from herbs and greens.

I chose my Breville because the cleanup is easier (tear down and wash up is quick and easy). My Aunts GreenStar took quite a bit longer to clean when I visited.. but like i said, the amount of juice that came out of the greens really floored me.

JJ...what juicer did you buy? If you said I missed it :-D
Just a semi cheap one. The Jack Lalanne power juicer.

They do Jicky, during the fast.
The first full day of the juice fast finally caught up with me and I'm feeling the ickies now. I expected it but I'm still looking forward to it passing.

Just keep reminding yourself how awesome it will be on the other side of the ickies. hang tough girl :handgestures-salute:

Day 2.
I didn't sleep well and I'm dragging quite a bit this morning. Just finished my fruit, berry and carrot breakfast. Even though I'm feeling a bit cruddy it's not nearly as bad as I was expecting. I do however think I need to add one more juice meal to my day though.

Got our juicer today! It works amazingly well and even fits full apples :D The juice (i did the mean green one that Joe does) is filling and one serving is two tall glasses. It's a little gross but not as bad as i expected. A friend of ours brought his elliptical over and it is in a good spot to see the tv. i'm excited about this lifestyle change!

Personally, I drink juice because I like it and know that it's full of all kinds of good nutrition, but I'd never consume juice exclusively and not ingest fiber, protein (meat, lentils or nuts). Our bodies need whole protein every day. If I fast, it's to exclude "junk food" not whole food.

A friend of mine from work told me of his sister, who went on an all veggie juice diet for months...mostly carrot juice. He said she turned orange and ended up in the hospital with organ failure.

:? Okay, I'll make sure to keep at least one "regular" meal as part of my diet.

Another article that warns against juice fasting for more than three days:

http://www.livestrong.com/article/465046-is-juice-fasting-dangerous/

Specifically, juice seems to be lacking in calcium and adds sugar to your diet that may exacerbate existing conditions. Also, they recommend that at the end of your fast that you don't jump right into your regular diet to avoid shock to your system--reintroduce regular foods gradually.

Sophia....given M's recent scare have you checked with his Dr to make sure the juice fast is OK for his system? I'm not sure how eating only fruits and veggies, which is what a lot of animals eat, would be a bad thing but ya never know. What about the juice was gross? Just curious.

And yeah juicing shouldn't be the only thing you "eat" forever but I think you need more than 3 days of juice fasting. It takes that long to get over the ickies.

Nording as far as your article - I agree that if you increase the amount of fruit you eat you are going to get more sugar in your diet but if that is the only source of sugar it has to be better than carb sugar. I get the feeling from that article that the source, Brenda Watson, wants you to buy her book.

okee day 4!
I got hit by the ickies pretty nasty like and couldn't cam the last few days. I'm feeling much much better today! I've decided since being on MFC is hard to work around I'm doing one salad of raw veggies a day and a few handfuls of nuts for protein and to keep a small amount of solid food in the diet so that coming off won't be as hard.

Sophia, I warn you. I took the "ickies" warning lightly. I felt like I had the flu for the last few days, totally unable to work at all! If you plan to do it be ready to not be able to work for a few days at least.

@nordling. Sorry about your sister. Just carrot juice for months isn't enough nutrients to survive on! Not to sound cold but she did it VERY wrong!

We definitely checked with His doctor and got the "okay" to start juicing. He has type 2 diabetes and is on a handful of prescription meds for that and His recent stent that He had put in, so it was imperative that we got approved before starting anything. We added in white fish (tilapia) and whole veggies for dinner last night and plan to do that each day. Nordling did a fine job of scaring me ;) We're doing this for 7 days to see how we feel about it before extending anything. So far it's day two and besides the headache i get right after drinking it, i'm feeling good.

i'm expecting much worse than what i've gotten so far (as far as nasty symptoms). i'm camming this whole weekend so hopefully i can manage it. i'm sorry you felt so horrible! i ate really bad, shitty (but delicious!) foods before this so i'm assuming the shock to my body will not be fun. i'm crossing my fingers!!

:D Exactly. But if wasn't MY sister. lol It was the sister of a friend at work.

By the way, whoever said "animals get by on just carbs" or whatever is right but herbivores are able to make proteins out of grass and bark and shit. Humans don't have that ability, just like pigs and dogs and cats--all need some protein.

I'm guessing the icky feeling one gets from juice fasting may be due to a lack of protein and fat. Protein and fat, like we find in nuts are a good source of long term energy--they metabolize slowly so are there for us after our bodies have burned the hell out of carbs. Most healthy folks do adjust to this "starvation" a bit and feel better, but I still fear a protein-less fast for possible long term effects. lol Like a loss of muscle mass. :)

WOOOOOHOOOOOO! I'm on fucking FIRE! Seriously, I haven't had this much energy in a very long time! I feel like my little ticker could just esplode with happiez!
I feel so amazing and I'm just buzzing! I've lost inches in places I wanted to already and the initial detox ickies have cleared! I really ate like shit before this, like ramen for breakfast every morning shit!
I had the worst headaches (likely from the lack of MSG and caffiene I'm used to) and horrible cold sweats like the flu. Pretty normal for a detox since your body is trying to sweat out all the shit it's getting rid of. It's the same reason you sweat when your sick.
Anywho, I feel so super duper great! I'm gonna go drink dinner now!

Edit all up in yo face! I'm eating nuts for protein! Just un seasoned, all natural nuts!

Perfect! Yeah, getting off caffeine nearly always causes headaches at first. Glad you made it through!

Just wanna point out that Neudiin witnessed me today and can probably attest to the crack head like behavior.

A little OT but fasting (controlled) reminds me of a friend years ago who went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to meet with some people he'd met earlier. He described them to me as "mountain people," and that their "hobby" was to go on weeks-long treks into the mountains--with no supplies other than water. My friend went with them--he was crazy like that. lol

He said, for several days, he suffered headaches, weakness, and a general malaise, but after about four or five days, a strange, "new" energy came upon him and though his thinking process was a little unclear at that time, he said he felt like he could walk forever with no nutrition.

He survived, thank Odin. :)

I'm taking in 5 times, at least, the amount of nutrients I normally consume. Water fasting is not even comparable. Water fasting is a common form of detox but is much more dangerous and usually suggestion to people in emergency, bed ridden situations.
I would gladly go on a trek in the mountains but I would damn sure be hunting and fishing for food.
