State of Denial
I'm mystified.....

I joined MFC about 5 or 6 months ago. Spent a reasonable amount on tokens for awhile; certainly not a fortune and probably well below average. For the last 2 1/2 months, my finances being in serious jeopardy, I have bought not a single token and have spent very little time on MFC.

And yet, today I was upgraded to "platinum" premium. WTF??

Either the criteria for such an upgrade must be very loose, or non-existent!! :dontknow:

I have no idea either. I think I only have like 400 points on my premium account, yet they upgraded me to Platinum Premium status. The message was from AdminAndrew, and I think it said it was for me "contributing to the MFC community." LOL.

I joined back in '09 wasn't really around since I wasn't able to buy tokens until recently. I got upgraded somewhere around 800 RP. Seems to be a combination of time and spending with other criteria tossed in.

Doesn't seem to be any criteria for package upgrades either. I have ~5k rp and still only have the 900 token package available.

I got access to the 1875 token package after buying two or three 900 token packages in a day. The limit seems to raise if you do buy the top available package a few times in a row.

Have definitely done that; maybe it's also related to length of membership (err...time as a member).

I have found that being Platinum and having a high points total gets you one thing and one thing only. If you have an issue or question for admin, they take a mere 24 hours to let you know that they cannot do anything for you, instead of making you wait a week or more.

I'm wondering - what's the point of platinum? It seems to be a status symbol, nothing more.

@the original question - I have no idea.

No one knows you are platinum unless you tell them, so as a status symbol I think it falls short.

Platinum membership status doesn't mean diddly squat, it's basically a ploy to get you to buy more tokens.
So, let's see, I can't afford to buy tokens, therefore the way to get me to buy more tokens is to offer even bigger token packages that I am even more unable to afford. Devilishly clever marketing.

You're right...quite a worthless gesture. They could at least offer a special lapel pin, or a bumper sticker. Which, since I neither wear sports jackets nor own a car, would be of as much use to me as the bigger token packages.....

I remember I was upgraded to platinum in the same manner...hadn't been buying tokens or even coming online for a while, and they did it. I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a way to motivate you to start spending again, make you feel all good by getting a 'platinum' title so you will buy some more tokens.

My guess is that they intended for platinum status to mean something when they first started, but the idea fell by the wayside. Either to lazy to remove it or thought "what the fuck" doesn't mean anything we might was well keep it in for some social engineering status ;)

I got a badge..and a pen..

Pretty sure every week they cut off the head of a chicken and if it flops in to the square of your zodiac you get updated to premi status.

Isn't that how cam score works as well? They really should start using new methods.

How does being platinum make you want to buy more tokens?

Seems like I'd buy them at the rate I want to take care of my models regardless of if they called me platinum or gold or silver or whatever.

No, they determine camscore by pissing on a bunch of the girls' names. The models that get pissed on get overnight fame and fortune. The rest that don't get wet are left out to dry up the pee puddle.

Given my current finances, "tin" might be more appropriate.....

Obviously, it doesn't work on everyone. In some cases, it probably is a general gesture of appreciation. In others, it's also a ploy to keep you around spending more. Platinum membership doesn't even open up another higher token package, that only happens after you've bought the highest available package several times in a row.

Here's one more random data point in case anyone still thinks there's any rhyme or reason to this and is looking for patterns.

I just got Platinum status over the weekend (along with the 1875 token package, finally). I had 2810 reward points at the time and have been a premium member since mid-December.

I had made a couple of 900 token purchases per week for the past several weeks. I assume that's related, but who knows?

The "platinum" label seems completely meaningless. Access to the 1875 token package, however, is useful.

Reward points aren't reward points.

The reward points are a lie.

I wonder if any model has ever asked the admins for platinum status on her premium account? It's common knowledge that if we ever have problems with our premium accounts we just e-mail the admins, include somewhere that we're a model, and it usually gets fixed right up.

If you want platinum status all you have to do is lie, and nobody will be able to tell. Platinum status reporting is on the honor system after all.
