Canon vc-c50i remote control cam

so, ive just bought a Canon vc-c50i cam as i really wanted to try out a cam with a remote, but im so crap with technology I have noo idea how to use the bloody thing! lol. Ive installed the cd and plugged in all the componants correctly, but i can seem to get an image up

Does anyone have this camera? Would you be able to help me out? God technology depresses me sometimes lol

Also, im running on windows 7, dunno if that makes a difference

I was just thinking to go to Canon next week and check this camera, as I want to buy a remote controled one. Will ask all the questions possible. I have a good laptop with Windows Vista, but may be a video card and some updates are needed to make work a camera at this level.
Will post here everything they tell me at the store

I have this exact same camera. How did you decide to start using it? Its not typically used for camming (its intended for closed-circuit surveillance). I use mine with a mac (although I may switch to PC, too) and I need an adapter, which I get from a company called DayStar. Do you have one of those? Like I said, its not intended for web-streaming, so additional hardware is required. I even needed an input/output cable. I haven't been on cam with it for a while (takes some time setting up) so I can't remember what exactly I do to make it work. I'll play with it and let you know.

I know a lot of studio models use this cam, so i thought id try it out, but its been the bloody bain of my life lol. I managed to get it working but the picture is very grainy and washed out so i think you're both right, i must need some sort of updates or some cable to sort out the picture quality. Im going to an electrical store today and im gonna let them play around with it....just need to take all the homemade porn off my laptop first LOL

would be great to know how you get on with your cameras

Oh hell. Went to Canon and was told the following:
This is a security camera and needs a video card (some 150 $ one ) for clear and good quality vision. It can be used on a laptop (mine is HP Pavilion dv5), but needs to be fixed by a computer guy, as settings are too complicated and should be tested while fixed and so. For the zoom, colour, grain and other "vision" settings, the video card is important and it should be fixed on the camera settings after all lights are set up for.
I think the best way is to hire a computer guy to fix it all, but it should be a descrete one loll

I give up on buying it for now and will continue with my Logitech. May be next month.

I wouldn't necessarily be put off by the company telling you need an engineer.

The set up may be hard work, and a lot of manual reading but I know they're used -- I compared the Sony EVI D70 vs. Cannon VC C50i for a model who was trying to decide which one to bid for second hand. Personally, I was inclined towards the Sony.

I'm sorry but none of that is true at all. That guy had to have been just trying to sell you more expensive shit. Like I said, I have the EXACT same thing and have been using it at home with no problem. You may just need an adapter (I get mine from DayStar and its around $100). I don't use a video card (don't even know where one would go). The settings are relatively simple with an adapter. The cam itself, isn't complicated but it was just not intended for typical web-streaming.
Google DayStar and call them for specifics.

I do believe the video card he's referring to would go in the computer...

But still, you can find a decent one for $80... oh, wait, laptop? Hmmm... dunno much about upping the laptop video card...
