I've missed this boat, and, as is the case with most social media tools, the site itself doesn't seem to do a very good job of explaining itself. So, I'm coming to the experts. What makes OnlyFans different from other paywall platforms?

It's just the biggest and most popular fan club site right now.

You either pay a monthly subscription fee for a creator's paid account, then see some stuff included with that price on their timeline as well as the option to purchase other items in private messages, OR you subscribe to a free page and get teasers in the timeline and the option to purchase items on paid posts within the timeline as well as private messages. There is a private messaging system, likes on posts and comments, gif and text comments on posts. There is no automatic way to save or download content (but it isn't impossible if you're somewhat handy with interwebs stuff.)

Everyone runs their page differently.

Paid pages:
Some charge a very low monthly fee with very little offered on their timeline, then focus on selling videos/photo sets/sexting sessions/audio clips in paid private messages (you pay to unlock them or they just sit there).
Some (like me) charge an average monthly fee then put basically everything included in the timeline with limited extras in paid private messages. *
*Some that do it that way might put a 30-90 day expiration on the stuff on their timeline so that old posts disappear after a while, others (like me) just leave it ALL there so it accumulates to a huge amount of posts automatically included with a month's sub fee.
Some charge a very high monthly fee and just do wtf they want because they're a domme/princess personality and have people that will do it just to serve their lady. :)
Some post every day, some only post here and there.

Free pages:
Majority of people with a free page are using it to advertise for either their paid page (we are allowed one free and one paid page) or for the heftier content that's in their paid posts/private messages.
Posts on the timeline of a free page cannot contain nudity or porn, so the juicy stuff will be behind paywall per post/message.

So if you have favorite models that you want to enjoy their content, click more info on their onlyfans bio to see if they mention their posting frequency or whatnot, maybe ask them if you're concerned about spending. Or just jump on for a month and test the waters then decide if you want to autorenew each month.

Amber covered a good portion of things. Couple of items to add:

  • There's no real way to browse content creators, aside from a very small random list on the right side of the page (desktop browser). So, if you're used to of the browsing the front page of MFC, CB, SM, etc. you'll be disappointed.
  • There's no way to get a preview of what a content creator offers, other than to subscribe to their free page. Or, take a gamble and sign up for their paid for a month to determine what it's like.
  • Most creators offer mostly unique content on OnlyFans where you won't see it elsewhere. I say this as I have seen short previews of videos posted to a model's Snapchat, or other places saying there's new content there. I have heard some people say that they've seen some models have cross-posted content across OnlyFans and other sites.
  • If you subscribe to multiple models, you will be billed multiple times based upon your subscription date. I subscribe to two models, and have to keep track of when they renew (can be turned off).

There's pros and cons to OnlyFans. I like some of it, and others not so much. Might be worthwhile to sign up for a free page just to get an idea of what it looks like before dropping money on a subscription.

Also be aware that depending on where you live, you may be charged VAT tax on top of subscription fees. This may also apply towards regular tips given. I live in the US, and have not seen any taxes yet. However, I had an "approval" that needed to be done for a larger tip since OnlyFans is based in the UK. Most times my tips are smaller, and don't require this. So, unsure if it was a one time thing or if it's due to amount.

The biggest difference is advertising/promoting is the sole responsibility of the model unlike cam sites. The other difference is cam models are probably in the minority there. The majority of Onlyfans are IG/streamer/mainstream personalities offering lewd/nude content without feeling they've crossed the grey line into being sex workers.

This is incredibly helpful. Thank you for the responses.

Looking through the site's FAQ, etc, they're pretty vague on what sort of people can create pages. If I wanted to make an account to post art, would that be kosher? It seems like something people might use it for. Or is it something where you have to be a "personality" or "model", and content has to center around you?

I'm pretty sure you can open an account for any kind of content.

Well, that's pretty fucking cool! I've become so disillusioned with social media platforms. They make it perfectly apparent that it's more about what content you can provide for their benefit, rather than what the platform can provide to benefit your content (I hope that makes sense.) I've been looking for a long time for something where I can control the intimacy of the interactions, and monetize my work.

I'm looking forward to using the "Go live!" feature on there soon, but it's asking me to choose a price to charge to let people into the stream, and I have no idea what to charge.

One of the models I follow there is using the Live feature already but no price for it yet. It's nice. But, there's a few features I don't like. Or at least I haven't found them yet:

  • No PM capability, everything is fully in the chat room.
  • No private/hidden/model-only tip notes. What you type in a tip is shown in the chatroom

I typically do chat in the room more than PM on MFC. But, sometimes it's nice to send/receive an occasional private message. Or even a tip note when it's not meant for public chat.

Is yours a free page? On a paid page you can go live without charging a price.

OK, so free vs. paywalled:

What I'm seeing is people mostly utilizing two accounts -- one with "free" content, and one that's paywalled. The subscription accounts have nothing visible to public view. Is it not possible to have a single account with mixed access to content? Like make "free" posts and subscription posts from a single account?

Welcome toOnly Fans. Common complaint of many.

This is helpful, thank you! I charge a lesser fee than my other memberships because I get 80% and I run it like a paysite. LOVE IT!

Free pages can have posts that viewers pay to unlock, but that's the closest you'll get to that.
