This thread is a life saver! I’ve been camming o and off for the past year and I had problems that I had to change names and start all over. I also decided to start on MFC and I couldn’t be any happier. So far I’m having a big problem with advertising my room. Twitter has grown good, but instagram is really hard to advertise. Anyone here knows another site to advertise? Would be a good idea to create a cam Facebook to advertise?

Also, stupid question, but how long on MFC you have the New Girl status? I’m only able to log on tree times a week there, so I’m afraid I’ll be losing my status :/

(So sorry if I shouldn’t post here!)

I don't recommend facebook for anything sex work related. Guys typically like to keep their family social media separate to their wank bank social media. Tumblr, reddit, pornhub, xvideos are adult friendly places you can advertise.

I think members can select how long they want the 'new' status to appear on models now. Default used to be 10 hours of broadcasting time. (I'm not on MFC anymore so I'm not 100% sure)

This thread was started over 4 years ago, so some of the links point to threads that have been archived or deleted, and some are in the models only areas. (It says at the top of the post that some are only accessed by verified models.)

I'm kind of a newb myself, but I have some tips to give to even newer girls:

-Stand your ground when it comes to your comfort level. Don't be swayed.

-Avoid scammers.
They come in all shapes, sizes, and forms. ALWAYS make sure you get paid BEFORE you perform a show. May seem obvious, but I was dumb and got scammed out of money a couple of times trying to be nice by trusting them to pay after the show. NEVER HAPPENED. Not ONCE. There was also a time where a guy claimed to have sent me money through Paypal, and sent me a bogus e-mail "confirming" that he had sent money to my account. Know what a real e-mail from Paypal looks like. It's not just going to be some text e-mail stating that so and so deposited this much into your account" while the e-mail is devoid of any links. The true transfers are e-mailed to you and you must click a link to go to Paypal's direct website to then deposit the funds into your bank yourself. NEVER will you get an e-mail saying they've already been deposited into your account without you confirming the transfer.

Oh, and fuck guys who try to get a free "test" out of you before doing a show on Skype.
I don't know how many people I've dealt with who have asked me if they could test our Skype connection before paying for a Skype show. Okay, I get it, sometimes the Skype connection can really suck (on my end anyway), so really I don't mind testing it out first for you. But that "test" will NOT include me getting naked so you can have a look at me beforehand or anything that lasts more than 1 minute long. I will not sit there and talk with you on Skype for 45 fucking minutes about essentially NOTHING--or they ask really personal questions I'm not comfortable with answering--all the while being disguised as a "test" of Skype's connection.

No, a Skype connection test is a quick, ideally 30 second videocall that is basically, "Hey can you see and hear me? Nice and clear? Yeah? Okay, cool." Test finished. If they start asking you a bunch of questions like a damn interview simply tell them that you charge for ANY time on Skype even if it's just casual and not sexual, and refuse to budge from that stance. Also, like I said, fuck the people who want you to strip down and get naked so they can see what you look like before paying you for a Skype show. I fell for that once and it was bullshit. They looked me over, probably got their rocks off 'cause they were like "Ooh yes. Nice. I like that. Yes. Nice." some creepy foreign dude and his wife, and then once they were done checking out every inch of my naked body they disconnected and never contacted me again. They didn't pay me anything either, obviously, and that "test" of them looking over my naked body lasted a good 10-15 minutes.

NOPE. Never again.

Having mentioned Paypal... it's really not the best way to go. I'd suggest trying Paxum or many of the other billing options you have available to you (search this forum for more payout options). Paypal can and probably will eventually close your account and ban you if they find out you're making money through adult services. They don't allow that. and anyone could report you at any time.

-Have fun creating a unique persona...
this was the funnest part about camming for me--choosing my own profile design and tinkering with it until I felt like it fit me well. You can put SO much personality into your profile if you just learn basic HTML, or use sites that pre-create layouts for you to then edit and make into your own. Get creative! Make your About Me section creative, your rules section, and it's always good to include some content you have for sale featured on your profile, like videos, panties, photos, snapchat, etc. Whatever you have for sale, market yourself whenever and wherever you can!

-Get a Twitter.
It's a great promotional tool for camgirls. When I was actively camming, I was always adding new friends and getting new friends on Twitter (mostly camgirls, official twitters of camsites, etc., anything that promoted the webcam modeling industry, I would follow on Twitter, and many followed me back!). Instagram is cool too if you can get creative and keep your photos on there PG-13 while still selling your sexy self. I was never too good at that without revealing too much skin for Instagram's liking, so my Instagram is pretty small and dinky and I don't really know what photos I can even add on there because they restrict almost all nudity (except for bare butts, it seems). But yeah, Twitter is GREAT and can be linked with many of the cam sites you're apart of so you can automatically update your followers whenever you update other websites with content, or when you're going live, etc. If you can afford and manage a website, that's even better!

-Get yourself a watermark for your photos/videos. Of course, you don't HAVE to, but especially if you have your own personal website, it's a great way to protect your identity while advertising your personal website at the same time if you have your own unique logo to watermark your photos used in your webcamming business.

-The secret to popularity and consistency as a webcam model? There's no one magic way to go about this, but the more hours you put into camming and promoting yourself--the more work you put into it in general--the more likely you will be recognized throughout the camworld.
If your aim is for the top, then definitely invest your time into at least a 4-8 hours of camming a day coupled with extra content for sale like clips, videos, used panties/toys/other clothing, or even baked goods in a care package can really brighten a customer's day, week, month... hell even YEAR. You never know! Offering custom photos and clips/videos is also a good way to make some extra cash and get yourself known, too. Customers may request some very strange things, but hey! You may find some of these strange things are TOTALLY worth the price they're willing to pay for it (for example, I had a customer who simply wanted me and my fiance's cum on a blowpop and mailed out to him for $40--weird, but pretty damn easy money, no?).

-Figure out if you're more of a public or private chatroom type of camgirl. Some camgirls prefer the public chatrooms with tokens while others prefer one-on-one private sessions that pay by the minute. It depends on the girl and circumstance as to which makes the best profit in the long run. I've noticed for many girls though, that the private show-based camsites like Streamate tend to make more money than MyFreeCams or Chaturbate overall, but this is just what I've witnessed personally among a handful of girls who have compared the sites. I've made a killing on Streamate before without having to work much at all (in 1-2 hours I made over $50) compared to the hours upon hours I've spent on public-based chatrooms like MFC and Chaturbate only to come out with $25-$50 in the end through tokens alone.

It's all up to preference though. Despite my success with the private-based chat, I enjoy the public-based chatrooms more. I feel less nervous performing in front of a group of people rather than trying to cater to one person's fantasy all the while hoping they like me enough to stay in my room for more than a few minutes so I can make some actual money. More than once, I've had guys take me to private on Streamate only to back out a few minutes into the show, which is always disappointing and kind of embarrassing. You're left feeling like you did something wrong because you didn't live up to the guy's standards, and you only made a few bucks in the process when you could've made a decent wage had he remained throughout the entire show. In public chat you don't have to worry so much about catering to anyone in particular--you perform certain acts for a set amount of tokens and that's it. You'll always have SOME people like you in public chat even if some people don't. You don't get outright rejected and your money cut short due to one guy who didn't like your performance for whatever reason.

-Sign up to multiple different sites when you're starting out! Find your home in the camming world. I found mine in MFC, Chaturbate, and Streamate, but you might find your main haunts elsewhere for different reasons. :)

-Don't fret too much if you don't have sexy clothes to start out with. I literally go on cam in my winter clothes--sometimes sweats and pajama pants--and almost no one ever seems to care as long as you talk to and engage with them. It's become rare I get on wearing sexy underwear anymore. As a REAL newbie, I didn't dare turn the camera on without full make-up, hair done, and sexy underwear on and ready to go, thinking that this is what men expect to see when viewing a camgirl--that and nudity plus teasing and sexual acts to follow. I always started out dressed like this with my Tip Menu ready and advertised every 5 minutes. Even with the Tip Menu up, I'd still let guys talk me down in price, and before you know it I'm nude pretty quickly and already getting to the sexual stuff and I've only gotten about 400 tokens in this short amount of time, if that even! I'd end up ending my sessions with an average of 500 tokens, which isn't much compared to a lot of models.

The biggest mistake with this--the lowering of your prices when people aren't tipping enough or at all--is that you also gain yourself the reputation of being easy to talk down when it comes to tokens. If you're constantly willing to let people talk you down in price or you just lower your price out of frustration at a lack of tips, then potential customers will take note of that and continue to not tip or tip very little because they know you'll eventually just say "ah fuck it, I'll lower my price if you aren't going to pay". DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. Set token prices according to what you believe you're worth--what each action is worth. Some models require 100 tokens to take their top off while others require 1000 to take their top off. And if they're both successful models, you'll probably notice that their customers end up paying the amount they ask for regardless of whether it's 100 or 1000 tokens. If they enjoy that model enough, they will pay what she expects for her services eventually. The only secret to their success is they didn't budge from their original price. So set your prices--use this forum to get some ideas on fair prices if you're really not sure where to start with pricing your services--and STICK TO THAT PRICE. Show people that if they want your services, they have to pay the set price for them and nothing less. Yes, you will lose customers, but you will also gain more serious customers this way--even regulars!

-Don't know what to say or do on cam? Start talking about anything or nothing at all. Literally, ramble if you must! Talk about the weather, your favorite show or food or animal... just be ENGAGING. There's nothing worse than a silent room with a silent model who's essentially ignoring her room and playing with her phone or off lost in some other website. Even if no one is responding in your room, continue to engage. Play music, sing, dance around, change your clothes... just don't remain stagnant and boring. It will do nothing to help your room--it'll just guarantee more silence, no interaction, and no tips. A lot of models will literally talk to themselves just to keep the room alive, even if they're the only one saying anything at all. You'll have slow days for sure, but you'll also have good days. Take those good days and NURTURE them, which you do by creating and sustaining a positive vibe in your room even when it's dead. Pretend it's one of your good days when everyone's interacting with each other and you, and you're getting tipped a lot for just being YOU. Like I said before, the sexy underwear play a small role in the success of a model. The REAL determinate of success in this industry lies in the model's overall personality and communication skills! Guys are attracted to someone who can light up a room with her charm, performance, and communication skills. Looks are only a small fraction of the package. Outward beauty is only skin-deep. You obtain regulars with your shining unique personality, and not so much your outward appearance, because while men may be taken aback by outward appearance AT FIRST, over time they adapt to your beauty just like humans adapt to everything else. What keeps the long-term customers and clients returning repeatedly is your ability to charm them with your personality.

-Which brings me to one of the more interesting aspects of camming I've stumbled upon in my few months of being a camgirl already. Another important part of being a successful camgirl is showing your customers and clients that you actually care about them. This doesn't mean you have to love them in any way, shape, or form, but you must do your best to truly care about who you work with, especially when it comes to your regulars.

It's a simple bit of advice, really. Just show, or at the very least act like you care about your customers and clients. Give them genuine advice if they need it, ask how they've been doing, ask if you can do anything for them (a perfect question to possibly initiate a private show or to offer them a custom pic or video to brighten their day). Your regulars breathe life into your career as a webcam model, so be sure to treat them with the politeness and respect they deserve (that's if they treat you with just as much politeness and respect, of course). Like I said, if any customer disrespects you, even if it's a regular, boot them to the curb. They are not worth your time, and there are plenty of other fish swimming around in the sea. :)

-Take a break if you start to feel burnt out, or change your rules or routine as a webcam model. I started to feel burnt out pretty quickly to be honest, and I admit I never even worked that hard at cammodeling. Still, the masturbation/cumshows started to make me feel burnt out after only a couple months of doing them a couple times a week. Maybe it's because I have an unusually low sex drive? I don't know. I just knew I had to change the way I operated things, or I'd just end up quitting altogether.

I went from using a Tip Menu and apps/bots on Chaturbate to slowly (or quickly) strip down to then evolve into a masturbation/cumshow...

... to turning to a systematic Countdown in my room to lose my clothing, eventually evolving into a masturbation/cumshow.

The difference? Well, the Tip Menu and the games got me naked and naughty pretty quickly while the Countdown slowed things down considerably.

I would explain my Countdown in the Topic: 300 tokens until I'm topless, 300 more for ass flash/bottomless, 300 more for kitty tease, and 300 more for the masturbation/cumshow--if I'm tipped the entire 1200 tokens total, I would reward my viewers with a masturbation/cumshow, but if I were only tipped 600 during the session, then they'd get as far as seeing me completely naked while 900 tokens would earn them a view of me playing with/teasing my "kitty" with my fingers.

I also made the tip menu unavailable for Countdown Days. Having it active during the countdown would make the countdown obsolete because the Tip Menu allowed them to pay for whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. The Countdown forced them to tip towards a sequence of events, and it forced them to tip higher amounts for some goals such as getting topless (typically 100 tokens on the Tip Menu, but 300 tokens in the Countdown), but then lower amounts for other actions (300 for a masturbation/cumshow that I originally priced around 600-900 tokens on the Tip Menu). In reality, the masturbation/cumshow wasn't any cheaper, but only seemed cheaper since I had divided the price evenly amongst each action in the Topic, claiming that each action only cost 300 tokens when in reality they're actually paying 1200 tokens total for the masturbation/cumshow.

It's not really a scam however, since the 1200 tokens included getting topless, showing my ass/taking my bottoms off, teasing my pussy, and finally ending with a masturbation/cumshow.

Actually, it's essentially an even and completely fair trade. My Tip Menu would charge 50 for showing my ass, 100 for taking my top off, 150 for taking my bottoms off, and then another 600-900 for a masturbation/cumshow. That totals out to anywhere from 900-1200 tokens total to see the same actions the Countdown reveals for a total of 1200 tokens.

Anyway, the point is: I was feeling overwhelmed going into my chatroom everyday, abiding by the rules of my Tip Menu, or games like Token Keno where there was a prize for EVERY number (I'm too nice to leave any number in Token Keno blank), which meant people LOVED to play it constantly, so I would constantly have to reward them with whatever prize the number revealed, which extended from a simple kiss blown into the webcam to fullout double-penetration with sex toys and everything inbetween--whatever sex act I could think of that I was comfortable doing found its place in those games.

3 months into camming and I was exhausted, so I did away with the games for the most part, introduced the Countdown, and said good-bye to the Tip Menu whenever I felt like it. I also began to dress much more casually, foregoing the sexy thongs for some full-butt underwear while wearing layers over my bra, and often tights or pajama pants with ankle-high socks to complete the look of truly not giving a fuck anymore. I still did my make-up and hair nicely, however. If they didn't like my wardrobe change, then they could pay to have me take it off--that was my mentality after realizing I didn't want to function so mechanically anymore in the camming world. I wanted more freedom--more time to actually chill and relax with dudes in my rooms and get to know them instead of jumping right into the nudity and sexual aspect of camming. I was tired of cheapskates, too.

So, to sum it up, I changed my camming style in these ways to alleviate any burnt out feelings:
-I raised the token prices on my Tip Menu figuring the serious guys will eventually show up some day and tip me what I felt I deserved for once instead of pricing my Tip Menu super cheap to get tips faster

-I made sure to keep my Countdown goal set to 1200; as long as it was above 1000, it was a fairly priced countdown, especially considering it's a sequential countdown divided into four sets of 300 tokens, each division with its own unique prize, each one more intimate than the last. Not all models were generous enough to offer a sequential countdown. Many just had a flat goal of 1000-3000, which more often than not paid for the model to get naked, and that was it for 1000-3000 tokens. Some top camgirls manage to charge this much just to take their top off, and with success at that. So I have to AT LEAST shoot for 1200 nowadays. I'm hoping to raise that number eventually, too.

-I have more Countdown Days than I do game and Tip Menu days. My Countdown days rarely even consist of me taking my top off (haven't had the best tippers lately); it's mostly just me talking to random guys or regulars about whats going on in my life and other random shit. Sometimes I get tipped really well just for talking to people and showing I actually give a shit about their lives. Sometimes I wear something sexy, sometimes I don't at all. Again, I'll still get tipped regardless. It's mostly about communication and the ability to keep people entertained on cam, which doesn't have to involve nudity or anything sexual half of the time. I only do Tip Menu/Game days like... twice a week, if that lately, while I'll do Countdown days 4-5 times a week if I'm online that often. Maybe that'll switch around again at some point in the future, but for now I LOVE a chill, low pressure room that doesn't expect much from me. Helps me build actual relationships with the guys instead of just taking requests constantly and not speaking about anything other than private shows and how many tokens it takes to do whatever, back and forth, every damn DAY. SO many guys would ask me about private shows and skype on a daily basis it was ridiculous and overwhelming. NOT ANYMORE. Not on Countdown days where I specifically state that I don't do Privates or take requests on Countdown Days... oh, and I quit using Skype completely. Way too many annoying people to deal with, and A LOT of scammers try to get you through Skype. I'm over it.

-Hmm... anything else I can think of? Probably. I'll probably edit this or make a new post in this thread with more advice based on my experience with camming thus far (I've only been at it since September, but I've seen and learned quite a bit already). OH! A really good idea--I think, anyway--that I see a few models doing is charging tokens to take you to Private. I never thought of that but it's a GREAT way to guarantee you'll make a decent amount of money going into a private show regardless if the guy bails on you or not. I charge 1000tk upfront to take me to private because yeah, I'm sick of guys begging me to go to private and then bailing out almost immediately after I get my clothes off and everything and am ready to go. I make no money and it interrupts the flow of my public chatroom. So yeah, no more freebie privates. And, as usual, you can charge whatever the hell you want/feel you're worth. Some girls charge way more than 1000tk to get taken to private.

-Snapchat is another great social networking platform to take advantage of as a camgirl. The best thing about it is it sells. It's like the only thing outside of videos I've been able to successfully sell to quite a few people in the last few months. Seriously, guys go insane over the chance to be friends on Snapchat. No joke. I only charge $20 for a lifetime subscription though, which is a steal. Ideally I'd be charging $40 or $50 for a lifetime subscription. I mean come on people... it's a LIFETIME subscription. I don't think $40/$50 is all that much for a lifetime snap of a model who allows chatting, sexting, screenshotting, custom pic/video clip requests, and regular updates both sexy and casual (well, regular posting as in probably twice to three times a week on average--still, it's for a lifetime and you get to delve pretty deeply into my personal life through my snap).

Sorry this turned out to be SO LONG, omg. Haha. Sometimes I get really passionate about things, especially when I go to write about them.

tl;dr?: NOPE. Go back and read it! lol I promise this is some good advice I've learned, and some of it I learned the hard way (I've been scammed MULTIPLE times by just being too nice--just pure stupidity on my part and so easy to avoid if you know what to look out for).

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY MODELING! :D

Oh, and I wanted to add one more thing... excuse my inner hippy child that comes out in this post, I can't help it when I talk about bullies and trolls. It's so important to me that people realize trolls are just sick people who need help themselves, so never take what one says personally. Another person's opinion of you literally means nothing unless you give it meaning and the power to define you.

Read on...

-You need to have tough skin.
Face it. You're a camgirl, you're going to deal with trolls once in a while. In fact, a fairly big chunk of society frowns upon our type of work, so it shouldn't come as a shock to learn that we're perfect bait for trolls.

My best piece of advice? Ignore them. No, seriously. Ignore them with all of your mind, heart, body, and soul. Don't pretend to ignore them and let whatever they said eat away at you internally. It's not worth it. You could be 1000 lbs and a troll comes out and starts making fun of your weight calling you fat and whatever else.

Let. It. Go.

Even if there's any shred of truth to their words, it does not matter. You may HAVE fat, but you are NOT fat. "Fat" is not your identity. Identity does not lie in anyone's appearance whatsoever. Words like "ugly" are just the insignificant opinion of some random person you don't even know who is purposely trying to get a rise out of you in some way, shape, or form. Don't let them get to you.

As of today, I have been called trailer trash more than once, ghetto, slut, whore, "not cute", "just another idiot", stupid, "too ugly to be a domme", "too fat to be a domme", etc.

You know what I did after every one of those insults (each occurring on separate occasions over the course of a few months), I laughed and came back with a witty, but FRIENDLY comeback. The laugh was sincere, and so was the friendly comeback. I never insulted them to get back at them or to get even. Worst case scenario is it's something pretty damn offensive, and I'm so shocked that someone would actually say that to me that I don't know how to respond right away. You know how I respond in those situations? "Wow, that was unnecessarily mean." and I'll make sure to have a huge grin on my face when I say it. "Wow, that was unnecessarily rude. What is wrong with you people? Seriously *light-hearted but GENUINE laugh to shrug it off* if I'm so awful why are you on my channel?" (which is a great point to make, actually... they're on your channel for a reason--most likely because you possess something they don't have or something they admire but don't want to admit it/are in denial about it. Keep that in mind. Hatred almost always stems from some inner turmoil they have with themselves, it has nothing to do with you personally... they don't even KNOW you the vast majority of the time! 9/10 times a troll is a complete stranger who's just out to hate for no good reason whatsoever. I find comfort realizing this as well)

Also, keep in mind that you are NOT inferior or superior to ANYBODY on this earth. Absolutely no one is superior or inferior to you, either. Hierarchies are illusions--a human construct invented in an attempt to convince people that some people are inherently better than others because they're smarter, they have a higher IQ, they're more physically attractive, they're better at debating, they have more charisma, they're better singers, dancers, writers, liars, lawyers, etc, etc, etc. when in reality, NO ONE is inherently better than anyone else--only DIFFERENT. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. People who prey on others weaknesses are just sick. That's the bottom line. Their hatred is a weakness--which is a fact, not an opinion. Hatred is a weakness. It can only cause more hatred, and hatred is only fueled by negativity such as fear and anger. People fear what they don't understand, so they end up hating it, and hatred tends to make people angry and delusional.

Hitler is a perfect example of just how false, wrong, and damaging hatred is. It comes from believing lies and is sustained only by delusion.

Realizing this--that hatred is a sickness and a weakness in and of itself--really helps me not take anything trolls say personally. I literally can't bring myself to take hateful comments personally anymore after thoroughly researching and studying the nature of hate. I truly just feel sorry for them when I stumble upon a troll.

Now, back when I was an insecure teenager, bullies and trolls got to me VERY badly. I developed Body Dysmorphia for years until taking psychedelics knocked my ego down a few notches and healed me from that awful disorder permanently. But before then, I was convinced I was inferior to everyone else because I had a noticeable birthmark on the bridge of my nose and a red mark caused by a scar on my left cheek that were both quite noticeable in the right lighting. I felt like an alien and believed nothing could help me (my dermatologist really helped my mental state by proving me wrong and using special treatments to get rid of the red mark and mostly get rid of my birthmark), and I would literally SCREAM and cry my eyes out as a teenager wondering WHY I was the one person out of a billion to have this weird, unique birthmark me nor any other dermatologist had ever seen on anyone else before? This birthmark, albeit small and not that bad looking at all in reality, had me CONVINCED I was one of the ugliest, weirdest creatures to walk this Earth and I shouldn't even consider myself a human because of these marks on my face.

Completely delusional thinking. It was just as bad as an anorexic's delusion about her body and weight, except this had to do with my skin and face. I would have done ANYTHING to remove this birthmark and red mark on my cheek. Literally anything (thank God I didn't try anything drastic myself and went to a dermatologist eventually).

Yada, yada, yada, I know... this subject in particular is a very passionate subject to talk or write about for me. Psychedelics changed my life completely and made me see myself and others for who and what we truly are. We are beings of light, created and sustained by love. Anyone who resists this fact suffers. It's not even something I have to prove, either. Just look at the stress hateful people harbor and express? Their hatred literally wears them down because it's not natural to hate. Only love is natural. Only love has any TRUE power. Our bodies are but temporary vessels, and the only thing that truly matters is our spirit. You keep your spirit healthy by gravitating toward anything GOOD--anything that involves or has to do with love in any way, shape, or form.

Our outward appearance or how we choose to live aren't true reflections of the conscious human we are deep within ourselves. Only our personalities and actions towards ourselves and others reflect our TRUE inner selves, which is why a troll's insults and words literally mean nothing. They don't mean a damn thing. YOU give their words meaning, and by giving them meaning you give them power. It's all you and your mind, though. Life is good enough that it literally has given you a choice to take or leave words as they are, or turn them into something meaningful, something that will have a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual impact on you.

Don't give the delusional ramblings of a troll take on false meaning for you. As soon as you do that you've let in a parasite that is also a liar, and it will repeat the troll's words until that's all you can hear or believe about yourself, and NO human should have the power to induce such misery on another human being. Remember, hatred is illusive. It's an illusion! There's no truth to hate, only ignorance. Having fat on your body, whether in excess or not, does not determine your value as a human being. Being "ugly" or "pretty" doesn't determine your value as a human being. Whether you live in a mansion or a trailer--again, this does not determine your value as a human being. I may be a dirty ass hippy--call me what you want! It holds no real weight when it comes to me and who I am as a person.

Love yourself. Love others. Love the earth.

Fuck trolls. They are literally specs of meaningless hatred that are there to trick you into believing that what they say matters at all, or that their negativity holds any truth to it whatsoever.

THANK YOU PSYCHEDELICS, GOD, AND MY LOVING FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR SHOWING ME THE LIGHT, otherwise I'd still probably take trolls personally.

The rest of your advice is great, BUT I was disappointed to see this part:
Know what a real e-mail from Paypal looks like.
This shouldn't even be a concern with regards to camming because, as you have already stated...
Having mentioned Paypal... it's really not the best way to go.
It's beyond "not the best way to go," it's extremely poor judgment to decide to use paypal for your sexwork biz. Not only will they ban your account, they will freeze your funds, and may do everything in their power to take that money BACK even if you've already transferred it to your bank.

On top of that, they might also decide to ban (and perhaps take further measures like freezing funds in) any other paypal accounts that they think are connected to you or that you have interacted with, and making a new account after that won't be an option. Do you really want to explain to any friends or family or whoever else you've paid via paypal that you got them banned for life and potentially cost them money because of sex work? Probably not.

Do. Not. Use. Paypal. For. Sexwork. Ever. The risks do not outweigh the reward. It's honestly just a really fucking bad idea and a pointless chance to take when there are so many other options available to us to get paid legitimately. Don't do it.

I know all of this, which is why I suggested she not use Paypal. Your post is better at explaining why it's a seriously shitty site to use for adult work, though.

Yeah, don't use Paypal. It's bad news.

I just found it unfortunate that you formatted your post in such a way that someone skimming the beginning might see what you said about how to tell if paypal payments are legit, without reading through to the later part where you advise against it. Hence my big, bold proclamation.

Ah, I see your point. Yeah, sorry, didn't think that through very well. :\

I wrote a lot in the post, so I didn't really go back to really take in all of what I'd said. Should've made the dangers of paypal more clear from the get go.

It's full of lots of other helpful information, so I hope that new or potential performers will give it a read in its entirety!

I'm really bored, let me see if I can think of anything else...

-Do some research on DMCA. To be honest, I don't know virtually anything about it, but I know it can protect you from having your content plastered all over the internet without your permission. I personally never cared if that happened to me or not--I knew of the risks of public exposure on porn sites and all that, and I just can't be bothered to go through the hassle to get anything taken down at this point.

-Avoid potential stalkers. The first step to this is to protect your identity. I'm sure it's already been mentioned, but don't use your real name or location as a camgirl. Ever. Be careful when dealing with Amazon and having customers/clients send you stuff through Amazon. There's a way to prevent them from seeing your real name and address if they're going to send a gift to you, but I forget exactly how you set it up. Again, search these forums. I found all the info I needed about protecting my identity on Amazon through this forum.

It's mostly common sense, really. Realize you're playing a part. It may be pretty similar to your true self in some ways, but you're here to entertain strangers on the internet and to make money doing it, so you need to adopt a fake name, location, and preferably life story (and age, if you wanna be extra careful). The less these guys know about the true you, the safer you'll be.

-So many models tell me how important having a good webcam, microphone, and lighting are, but I sometimes think it's an overrexaggeration. I have one little bright lamp that works perfectly to illuminate my face just face--cheap as hell--a built in webcam that's decent for being a built-in webcam--no one complains about it--and yeah, to be honest, i could use a new microphone because mine fucks up from time to time for some reason (it's built in like the webcam is). I'd much PREFER a fancy separate webcam and microphone, but I definitely can't afford even a $50 webcam right now, and every single Logitech webcam I've tried has gone to shit on me and won't work on my computer so I need to try out a completely different brand of webcam, yay! *sarcasm*

You'll also hear about how you want your room to be nice, clean, presentable, and if possible, spacious... with lights and tapestries and nice bedding to decorate your surroundings and make you look like you live in your own little sexy dazzling domain.

I live in an RV with all the built-in crap they don't recommend you use, and one bright ass light that's more than enough light for me to cam with. Regardless of my tiny camper that confines me to my full-sized bed, I still manage to entertain and make money, so... I don't really know just how important it is to rush out and get all of these things when you're first starting off, especially. Unless your built-in webcam really sucks, I wouldn't worry so much about all of this stuff. I would focus more on creating your own unique persona that's gonna draw people to you. Screw your surroundings (unless you live in an episode of Hoarders, THEN you may want to clean up a little before turning on the cam...), screw your mediocre webcam and microphone--it's all about YOU, baby! Maybe invest in better equipment if you start to do videos/clips to sell later on. Or not. An iPhone works just as well, in my opinion. ;)

Hi there! If you don't mind, I'd like to give a little veteran advice! Getting a separate, high-quality webcam really is a MUST in the camming world. ESPECIALLY on sites like Streamate, where broadcast quality affects your placement on the site. Personally, I work on MFC, but no matter what site you're on, you're going to increase your chance of getting more viewers and making more money if you use professional-quality equipment. Now, I'm not saying anyone needs to run out and buy a lighting set or a super expensive camera. But a camgirl's first investment toward her business SHOULD be a high-quality camera. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. The C920 is $50 and the c930 is $75. Save your first couple paychecks for it. PUT THAT SHIT ON YOUR WISHLIST. Whatever you need to do to get off the built-in cam and microphone, because your video feed is (obviously) the first thing people see upon entering your room, and if there's low light, fuzzy sound, or grainy picture (and yes, they can tell the difference), it's going to be that much easier for them to click away to another model.

I'm applying to grad school right now, so I think of it in these terms: if a school asks for a 500-word biographical statement, and you only write 450, that's an easy way to eliminate you from the giant pile of applications they're sorting through. So if all other things are equal (sparkling personality, hot body, fun conversation), but another girl has a crystal-clear feed with good lighting, you can bet your sweet bippy that the majority of users will pick the other girl. This may not be fair, but it's reality. Camming is a numbers game.

It's definitely true that good lighting can come from a super cheap setup- I actually prefer my soft, normal bedroom lamps to my professional set, and I know many others who cam with cheap Ikea lights and love it. And the same goes for the space you're camming in- you can make even a tiny, plain space visually appealing with a few little tricks. I've cammed from my bed before while my whole room is a crazy mess except for the part that's visible on cam, and made it look cozy and glamorous with a brightly-colored blanket I've had for a million years.

That said, environment/background DOES matter. You want to make people feel like they're hanging out in a cool space, one that they'd actually like to enjoy in person. I know multicolored customizable party lights are like $12 on Amazon- even those can make a drab room look fun! So I highly recommend being intentional about creating a "sexy dazzling domain" with whatever tools are available to you.

I would focus more on creating your own unique persona that's gonna draw people to you.

This is stellar advice. Even if you're doing it "just for fun," camming is a business, and EVERY thing you do is a representation of your brand. The first thing I recommend people do when they start camming is sit down and brainstorm EXACTLY what their brand is going to be, what niche they're going to occupy, and what audience they're going to target. Personally, I'm the naughty girl next door with a big brain who can make you cum while simultaneously telling you quantum mechanics jokes. I'm the girl who you check out because I'm cute, but fall in love with because of my passion for honest, deep conversations. That's who I am. Not The Pornstar, not The Succubus, not The Exotic Beauty. The "Real" Girl. And every decision I make, whether it be the outfits I wear on cam, what I do and talk about in my room, or what my profile graphics look like, needs to bolster that identity.

So that's my advice to new models: BE YOUR BRAND.

OMG this was so hopeful I'm a new CB model, and this week has been slower than usual. I've been visiting with regular viewers.... 8) What can I do on my slow days, whats an average shift for a cam girl when your new to get those viewers hooked?

Thank you & thank you,

Bimbo Kya

I am seeing more and more often lately that ladies who do not have verified model status are coming to ACF looking for help. While there are guides and resources in the model's section totalling hundreds of thousands of words, this isn't very useful for someone who has to wait a few days to see them. In an industry where many newcomers are hoping to make cash in just a day or two, this is hardly helpful. So I thought I would put together a new guide in the public section with some handy info!

There are a lot of links in this post to model's only posts for further reference, but hopefully it will still be helpful to people without MO status.

If any of you ladies ever get verified model status, there is a lot of new info to comb through. If you want to expand your cam knowledge, I believe these are the best threads to start with, in order of importance:

New Model Mistakes (a thread where models share their past mistakes)
Camgirl Success Troubleshooting (help with everything from getting members to come to your room to pre-cam anxiety, earning tokens, doing better privates, and more; a great place to start)
MFC Camscore Info (if you want to cam on MFC, you need to read this)
Coming up with show ideas (a crash-course guide in thinking up show ideas, mostly for ladies on MFC but useful on any site)

As this is a public forum, I am going to predict that in the comments, there will be a lot of people who disagree with a lot of what I share. From the rules that are enforced to how hard a model has to work to make good money, people are going to disagree and cite proof to the contrary (whether or not they have cammed a day in their lives :p). However, it would be silly to try and write a guide to the exceptions of commonality. I believe that this guide is accurate for the majority of new models.

For new MFC models:

If you are planning on camming on MFC, you NEED to understand how the camscore system works. I do not believe MFC is a good site for beginner models, which I argue in this post. If you are interested in camming as a career and want to take a more serious approach, I would highly recommend you get experience on a website like Chaturbate before you make the switch to MFC.

MyFreeCams FAQ:

What is the camscore and why is it important?
Camscore is the default ranking system for all models on MFC. In the webcam sex industry, default ranking is extremely important. It does not guarantee minimum earnings, but it is a great predictor of how much traffic a model will get - which she can then translate in to earnings (read the model's only stickied post on "being realistic about what a high camscore will get you"). Basically, camscore is how many you tokens you earn per hour, over a sixty day average. The more tokens you earn per hour, the higher your camscore will be. What other models on the website make influences how many tokens per hour you need to maintain a camscore of 1000. Nothing else contributes to your camscore. Ratings/admires do not count. Friends list adds do not count. Small tips do not lower your camscore. Offline tips do not help your camscore "more" except by improving your token/hour ratio.

How long does New Model status last and why is it important?
New Model status (NMS) is a short period of time where new models on MFC are listed with a bright yellow tag on their avatars. Typically, new models receive a great deal more traffic than they normally would. It is commonly considered that NMS is critical to make or break your camming career, and if you waste that time, you will have a more difficult experience on MFC. Many models are surprised and upset when their NMS wears off and suddenly, instead of 100 people in their room they are seeing 5.

New Model status on MFC used to last for ten broadcasting hours. Now, members choose how long they see models as being new (3, 7, 14, 30, 60, and 90 days). At the time of this post, members being able to rank new models as they choose is a new feature and it is yet unseen if this will make new model status less important or not.

Which rules are okay to break?
MFC very infamously does not enforce the majority of its rules. This can lead to confusion about which rules are "okay" to break and which are not. I started a thread in the MO section to get input from other models, and this is the culmination of those thoughts [link to that thread: here].

In general, these rules are fairly strictly enforced and breaking them will most likely result in getting a warning or your account being banned:
♥ Men on camera for any reason.
♥ Sexual relations with men, even off-camera (in the same room while camming).
♥ Minors, children, babies; may not be on camera or in the same room.
♥ Bestiality, or animals/pets on camera in a sexual or provocative context.
♥ Illegal drugs, or drugs that may be perceived as illegal in other locations. (Pot does not seem to be a bannable offense)
♥ Rape (most host websites like MFC, C4S, and others, will not allow simulation of rape to be displayed)
♥ Incest (sexual relations involving family members). [This includes incest role-play and fetish grey areas such as Daddy dynamics]
♥ Violence, blood, torture, pain, erotic asphyxiation, or any actions associated with bringing harm to yourself in any way (many models engage in, and totally get away with, mild to moderate sadomasochism, without blood play)

The following rules are sometimes enforced and sometimes not enforced, but you should probably play it on the safe side:
♥ Menstrual bleeding.
♥ Breastfeeding or lactation.
♥ Unauthorized persons (persons for whom we do not have proper name and ID on file.) - I have had female friends on cam with me for hours with no issue; other models have had their accounts suspended almost immediately for someone briefly coming on screen.
♥ Sleeping, "passing out". (I can't remember the last time I heard of someone getting in trouble for this)
Hypnosis (lol wut?)
♥ Discussing or arranging prostitution or escort services. (you can probably get away with it)
♥ Urination, defecation, "going to the bathroom", enema play, vomiting. (on the riskier side)
♥ Penetration of the vagina or anus with items not meant for sexual stimulation (e.g. bottles, baseball bats).
♥ Fisting.

The following rules are almost never enforced or are literally never enforced:
♥ Excessive consumption of alcohol or other legal or prescribed medicines or narcotics.
♥ Illegal or unsafe activity of any kind.
♥ Actions that may be deemed obscene in your community.
♥ Masturbation, penetration, using sexual toys or devices, cunnilingus, or other hardcore sexually explicit activity (in public chat).

A grey area:
♥ Public shows (shows where you are in a public location such as a library). Even though they involve illegal activity and often have strangers, including men, on cam, they do not seem to be in the red zone.

MFC requires a lot of personal legal info to sign up. Can I trust them?
In short, yes, you can. Hundreds of thousands of models have signed up with MFC and I have never even heard a rumor of MFC leaking or spreading the info of models. It may make you uncomfortable, but remember that if MFC was not a legit site, they would not require so much information to verify you :)

How much are tokens worth?
Every token is worth $0.05 USD. If you earn 20 tokens, you earn $1 USD. If you earn 2000 tokens, you earn $100 USD.

Members pay at least $0.0675 per token, and usually as much as $0.08 cents.

How much money can I expect to earn on MFC?
This entirely depends on you. Some models make very good money from the get-go ($100+ a day), while many others never seem to do well. It has been estimated that the highest earners on MFC make at least five digits (USD, not tokens) a month. There is more discussion about actual number amounts on this thread.

I have estimated, and never heard an argument to the contrary, that the majority of webcam models earn around $10 or less per hour. On MFC, the vast majority of models make less than $20 per hour. For many women, this is not enough to offset the inherent dangers of the job.

WHERE IS MY MONEY?!
♥ If you get paid by check: It can take up for 3 weeks for your check to arrive in the mail. This is, IMO, the worst payment option to select.
♥ If you get paid by direct deposit: It takes 2-4 days (usually 3) for most models to receive direct deposit payment. Remember that if the 1st or the 16th of the month lands on a weekend or holiday, your bank will take extra time to process the payment. Therefore, sometimes it can take up to 5-6 days for your entire payment to process.

Making money: why should anyone give you money?

This may sound a little mean, but don't take it personally.

Why should anyone give you money?

Women are not deserving of money just because they have tits and a vagina.

You are not going to be the hottest woman on whatever site you join. You are not going to be the most interesting or have the best body. You are not going to fill a niche market that nobody has thought of before. There are going to be twenty models online at any given time who are better looking than you and who will give it away more cheaply than you.

If you think you are going to join a camsite and succeed just because you were the prettiest girl in high school, I'll see you when you quit three months from now.

Models who are the most successful and make the most money are the ones that work the hardest. They work hard to make it look like what they are doing on cam is effortless. On MFC, they are the ones who have 14 hour work days and never take days off or have vacations. (Although I know of more than one model who works so many hours a day, it is interesting that many members do not believe this is true)

If your plan is to join a camsite and earn $50 or so a day; yes. You can do that with not a whole lot of effort, and probably not a lot of hours! But if you are hoping to make hundreds a day, then get ready for long months of tears and sweat. The simple fact is that the only thing which will differentiate you from the crowd is how hard you are willing to work. I have only heard of one model, ever, who made very good money without putting hard work in - and this was a second hand story :) Here is another way to look at it: I have been part of ACF for about 18 months at the time of this post. I have spent many hours of my life reading the stories and daily thoughts of other models. I have never ever in that time ever heard any model ever say, "it is so great that I make so much money with so little effort!". Ever. Yes, models who work hard do often enjoy periods of ease where their online shifts seem to flow easily and they don't have to "hustle" as hard, but that is always broken up by periods of hard work and difficulty. It may not be the hardest job in the world (I certainly do not believe it is), but you still have to work hard at it.

If you don't want to work hard, you can still make money. But you won't be making amazing money or even especially good money.

Advice to new career cam models:

I started another thread in the model's only section and got a lot of responses for the top advice veteran models would give to newbies. Before I put in their responses, here is my best advice:

Think about how you want to cam when you are successful. What do you want to be doing?
Do that starting on your first day on cam.

If you envision yourself as being the perfect non-nude model, then don't start off doing public cumshows because you don't know how else to increase your room counts. Likewise, if you envision yourself being a posh and exclusive model, don't sell your shows and content for ultracheap. If you want to be an easy-going low-key model, don't build up a posh and exclusive room and then expect everyone to be okay with it when you suddenly change your style.

Start camming with your eyes on your endgame. It's the best way to avoid big mistakes and to not get in the way of yourself.

Now, other the advice of other ladies!

Three common MFC scams

♥ "I'm an MFC admin and I need to speak to you on Skype." He's lying; report him.
♥ "I'm very experienced at watching other models be successful, and if you Skype with me I'll share their secrets with you." The best he will do is share common info with you that anybody could figure out. There are no "secrets" to being successful at camming.
♥ Fake tips: On MFC, when someone actually tips tokens, a ringing sound plays and the color behind the member's name changes to be yellow. It is common to scam new models by typing "has tipped 100 tokens!" or by posting an image which appears to be a legitimate tip.

How can I be successful on MFC?

♥ Price yourself according to what you are worth. This may sound mean, but be realistic about it - few models are worth 2000 tokens for a shot of vodka, and few models are worth $100 to take their shirt off (with a bra underneath, of course!). Don't worry with your prices being cheap if you are making an overall amount of money that satisfies you.

♥ Get on cam at the same time every day for 3 hours. Do not take days off. Do not get on late. If you get on early, stay till the end of your shift. Granted, very few models actually do this... and very few models are at the level of success they really want.

♥ Don't freak out. Any camscore above 1000 is great. When I started on MFC, I was happy as long as my camscore stayed above 1k, and I was able to put in more hours and make more money overall because of it. Don't stress out over a bad shift or two.

♥ Make and sell videos. Get online with a goal; get online to work. Keep in mind what members want to see - just because something is fun for you does not mean it is fun for the men who pay your bills. When you get online, you should be ready to work and geared up with things to sell for members who are interested. Getting online just to hang out because it's fun (and it totally is fun!) is not going to help your career any. Hang out in a member's room, work in your model's room.

♥ Smile and be happy. It is amazing how long you sometimes have to look on MFC to find a chick who looks like she wants to be there. Be the woman that looks like she wants to have a good time.

Alternatively, read this thread to learn success skills for MFC!

(Readers et all: I unfortunately did not have as much time to work on this guide as I would have liked. I hope future readers will add their two cents and extra help in the comments!)

Would you girls recommend MFC to someone who is new to camming?

If not, what site would be best?

Girl only shows.

Facebook is great for branding but most of the real action goes down in private groups. You can create a business page for your camming persona but I wouldn't recommend investing a ton on developing it. FB wants you to spend money and will limit your growth if you don't pay up. Plus they will ban you if you push sex worker business too hard. Just use it as a place holder and for seo but then join some private groups that are pertinent to your niche. This is where many guys like to "play" on FB.

I definitely agree about fb private groups! Personally, I found it a bit overwhelming and prefer Twitter. But if anyone new is reading this and goes the Facebook route keep in mind how little privacy Facebook gives you. Make sure you do a separate account that isn't connected to your personal account. Separate email, not on your mobile phone. Facebook can accidentally out you with their people you may know feature.

Haven't been around much lately, but this post reminds me of why I never stay away forever.

The only thing I can see that you missed, especially in the "harsh reality" check is that camming may just not be for you. Nothing to be ashamed of, just reality.

If I lost my job today, I'd be flipping burgers tomorrow. I could probably be a server tomorrow and make more money initially, but it wouldn't last.

Just my thought. Take it as you you will.

With each post of yours, Evvie, I love youmore.

I wonder at what point it is best to say "This isnt for me". I have been on cam since December and only had a few good days. I watched my income drop period after period (not that I made more then 300 in a pay period anyway). I switched to MFC and that helped but now Im back to 5 people in my room and no tippers. I dont want to quit and I keep trying dfferent things. After 2 days on MFC my cam score was less than 1K and I cant get it up without being naked (throwing away any standards I have for my value, which is a no no for newbies). At what point do I throw in the towel, knowing it takes at least a year to be smewhat established?
