This is very sad, I can't imagine what the families and friends are going through trying to come to terms with this senseless, disgusting act.

Thankyou for not making this a soapbox for gun control/gun rights - victims and their families deserve better than that.

Situations like this highlight the need for exit strategies in emergency situations. I wonder how many of the victims panicked and ran or if they tried to employ critical thinking to find a safer way out. Just makes you think about how you would exit a situation like this and if it's even possible to do so safely.

I'm very confused as to why he trip-wired his entire apartment and went through the trouble to lay down what I understand are some pretty complex booby traps but then warned the police about it during his arrest. He no doubt prevented countless other injuries and fatalities by tipping them off to it, but it just seems so weird that he would. Obviously this guy had no respect for the safety and lives of others, I really doubt that he was hit by a sudden pang of regret.

I doubt he expected to live. Once he did, he would start calculating the best course for his future. Giving up the traps displays will make him look better now that he will need to go through the legal system.

Crazy is just Crazy. This x-med school student's psychotic tendencies were obviously missed by the professionals that taught him. Can't wait to hear the media portray this issue.

Being a parent, I do not understand how children and teens (let alone a 3 month old) were at a midnight opening. I am aware that this could have happened at anytime of the showing. But, it didn't and nothing good happens after midnight. Keep your kids close to you, love them, and be an overprotective parent. It is better to hear your child whine, then having to mourn them in a senseless tragedy.

My thoughts and prayers go out to these families and everyone else that is effected by this tragedy.

I hope those involved seek therapy ASAP. There's going to be a lot of PTSD and survivor's guilt.

Unless you were very close to an exit or in danger of being trampled, playing dead would have probably been the best solution. Crazed killers rarely go around shooting people presumed dead or not a threat.

He reportedly clammed/lawyered up right after telling the police about his apt. being booby trapped. Being a neuroscience grad student, knowing what he does about psychiatric illnesses... it's possible he may be going with some sort of insanity plea.

I agree with everything the psychologist says near the end of the clip. The media has more to do with perpetuating this kind of behavior than they care to believe.



As well I also feel that the average person does not need to own fully automatic weapon nor a shotgun/rifle (unless the use is for hunting).

The end of this video is spot on. There is no reason to give so much coverage to a tragedy of this sort. The killers are wanting the attention and hoping for some fragment of immortality by doing things like this so publicly.

He wasn't dropped, he voluntarily withdrew last month for some reason. Up until he left, he was an honor student in a difficult field and one of the best & brightest according to his professors.

Sure, and personally I don't disagree with doing what you'd already planned, or reading a batman comic, or going to see the movie etc, or see it as insensitive, but people should be aware that SOME people will, especially only hours later.

Pro-gun, anti-gun or any statement (like the people attacking the man who ran out of the theater and left his wife and children inside) that goes beyond sympathy for the victims really shouldn't be made.

As always happens with tragedies, people pull out the soapboxes and start to make the event about themselves. Pushing their political agenda or trying to outdo each other with how such an event could have happened to them as they try to bizarrely interject themselves into the story. The story is about the victims and no one else.

I can not express how much I dislike these buffets of thickly frosted, nut clustered, shit, the media rushes to throw together always and completely for every such event. It is only slightly less disgusting than the eager diner, drooling like some huge ravenous Pavlovian Rottweiler, that be the force dictating the servers action. We gobble it down, and claw for more. Obsess, bubble headed, brain washed bitches, all of us.

Adjectives like horrific, horrifying, appalling, gruesome, atrocious, hideous, horrendous, are always applied, but all of these are less applicable to these shock inducing events than they are to those scores of sad, unnoticed, denied, social tragedies that take place around us every day, and twice in poor neighborhoods. They are hard to reckon with, complicated beyond the ability of the the sound bite and 24 hour news to even marginally convey, or, is it beyond our diminished ADHD capacity and will to comprehend.

This one solves easy, - we kill one crazy fuck and have our vicarious vengeance. And the world continues to spin oblivious to our existence, and stupidity, no less fucked up than before.

Dramatic, the adjective most suiting, tho I have yet to hear it uttered.
(I bet it has been, I just sorta tuned out early.)

It's all ready been discussed and debated on this forum. I don't anticipate any new debaters or new ideas, but if you want to reopen the debate rehashing how evil guns are and what has been previously said... a couple weeks from now would probably be fine in a new thread.
