Meh! Was so let down by X3. Hope this is better!

X-men first class looks interesting, but I dont know, Ieven fror me, I was horribly let down.by the whole Phoenix thing if they ruin more Storylines with this one I am not even acknowledging it.

I saw this yesterday. It's very good as a prequel/origin story, and thankfully wipes the bitter taste of "The Last Stand" and "Wolverine" out of your mouth. Michael Fassbender steals the show as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto. Kevin Bacon is also quite entertaining as the villain, Sebastian Shaw.

I saw this last night and I can't stop talking about it. It was SO good. The acting and casting was amazing. It was funny, thrilling, and moving. There were a few points where the writing was a bit cheesy (forced concepts of 'be who you are!' and such) but overall it was a knockout. I loved it and I recommend EVERYONE go see it.

And for the ladies...both Magneto and Alex are HELLA sexy.

I saw it yesterday and it kicked ass! I didn't even mind the stuff they changed from the comics all that much. This is one of the best superhero movies ever made. Awesome cameos too.

I just watched it. And every fiber of my nerd being wants to deny I agree with you, but goddamn it I do. Awesome movie and one of the best ever made for the superhero genre.

I, too, saw it over the weekend and really enjoyed it. It has some of the best acting present in a superhero genre film I'd say and a pretty good story. There were only a couple details I would have done differently.

I really don't care for the idea of changing the entire cast but I guess we will see.
Technically, Hugh Jackman is still Wolverine... for all of 10 rather humorous seconds on screen. :p

I saw it earlier today, and it's now my new favorite X-Men movie.

I didn't recognize Jason Flyming at all, admittedly he was under a lot of makeup as Azazel but still.

Saw it, loved it would see it again. Magneto's a bad ass, they do a great job explaining his and professor xavier's motivation and friendship. Kevin Bacon did a great job as Shaw. Only thing I would have changed a little bit was show how mystique or beast being persecuted more to show why they were so insecure, it just seemed like they put it on themselves more than others. but thats one minor critique on an over all excellent film.

oh and, go fuck yourself

Yep, Liked the movie, even though some of the names didn't recognize with my 8 year old self who'd watch the cartoon every saturday morning and actually wake up early to do so, I like how the story progressed.

and Hugh Jackman's cameo was hilarious, I had to tell a couple of my friends to watch out for that because it's so quick and a bit unexpected.

I saw X-Men 1st Class last night and it was great!
My biggest peeve about ANY movie based on some other form of popular media (book/comic/graphic novel/video game/ tv series) is when fanboys gripe about how the movie isn't EXACTLY how it was in it's previous form. I swear I've rudely cut-off atleast 10 people, who when talking about XM1C, start their rant with "Well, in the comic book...." That is about as much of that BS I can handle! DON'T WANNA HEAR IT! and that is exactly what I tell them.

I am a longtime Xmen fan, and I am very aware that this is different from the comic book. All I wanted to know is, is the movie good? EVERY single comic book geek that I've spoken to didn't like the movie. EVERYONE who really doesn't know/care about the X-Men backstory was completely blown away by it! I, for one, loved it! The casting was excellent, the focus on less popular x-men members was cool, the 1960s cold war back drop was refreshing, and the changes from comic book to movie were IMPROVEMENTS imo. ::SPOILER:: Like how Magneto is responsible for Prof X being in a wheelchair.

If you haven't already, go see it. Keep an open mind and forget most of what you know about the X-men franchise. All you need to know really is that the x-men are a team of super-power weilding mutants and this is a story about their orgin. If you eliminate your inner fanboy you'll be pleasently suprised by this ADAPTED SCREENPLAY.

I guess I'll have to watch it then :D I avoided entirely due to legacy of previous films, but the stream of good things from above means it's down for this weekend :)

good luck - i seem to be the only one who does not like this film. in my eyes xavier and emma frost had serious flaws in the way of charisma and i wasn't too excited by some of the masks.
but maybe i was in the wrong mood for the film that day... happens.

I liked the guy who played Xavier. The only issue I had with him was the way they had him interact with Mystique, but that's part of the plot and not a big deal at all.
However, January Jones was pretty horrid as Emma Frost, she's a horrible actress but at least she's attractive.

I guess i don't remember how Xavier was as a young adult to notice or care about the flaws. He played a good counter point to what Magneto represented I thought.

I know this is horribly late...but I just found the topic and have so many issues with the movie that I can't hold it in.

If you know nothing about the X-men Universe it is indeed a decent movie. If you know a lot about the X-men Universe and you like movies that stick with canon then it is horrid.

1. They only had one member of the canon First Class in the movie. Jean Grey, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, and Angel were the canon characters for First Class. They were all led by Xavier, and Magneto were not allies at that point any longer (if I remember correctly). I'm not even going to get into a rage about the characters they chose for the movie.
2. The villains in the movie were from a later series of comics! The Hellfire Club, Sebastian Shaw, and Emma Frost would never have been in the time of First Class. Emma Frost didn't even come along until after Jean Grey DIED!!! There were so many other villains they could have used instead of trying to retrofit The Hellfire Club into their time frame.
3. Azazel is a lackey to NOONE! Azazel is an ancient demonic humanoid mutant that killed ANGELS! He is a highly intelligent mastermind who would laugh in the face of mere mortals like the Hellfire Club. He nearly opened a gate to hell that would have ended existence for the Marvel Universe. But no, the movie he was a mute assassin...awesome. Azazel would have been the perfect villain for the movie, considering he is Nightcrawler's father...
4. If you are going to choose characters from the Marvel Universe, even if they aren't canon, at least get their powers right. Havok doesn't do the hula to use his abilities, he used his freaking hands!!! (He is Cyclops' brother so...great fuck up movie ha.) They put Angel in the movie...but it was a female who had dragonfly wings and could shoot little balls of explosive flame...Not the male Angel who can fly with real angelic wings.
5. The movie contradicted its own freaking canon. The world is supposed to exist in the same world as the first 3 movies. They use the same actress for the older Mystique as they did in the original X-men movies, as well as the same Wolverine.
6. Xavier lost use of his legs through a battle with Lucifer, and when Lucifer dropped a stone on Xavier's legs, Xavier lost use of them. It was unnecessary to have him shot to get rid of the use of his legs, and its too ordinary. Why wouldn't you want to show a huge battle between Xavier and an alien supervillain...Fail on the movie.
7. You don't have the characters solve a huge thing that happened in actual history! The Cuban Missile Crisis was a huge thing in history, why fuck with it. There was just starting to be an issue with mutants and humans in the first X-men, why would they want to start that out earlier and make it worse.
8. There was so much material that the movie could have pulled from. But instead they follow the pattern of the original X-men movies and use the most useless and boring story lines that they can use.

And honestly, besides not following the canon, the movie had a lot of other short comings. The acting was horrid on most of the actor's parts. The only good actors were Michael Fassbender (Magneto) and Kevin Bacon (Sebastian Shaw). There was a lot of choppy dialogue and poorly written dialogue.

Nerdrage...over. (Though I may think of more later.)

Ah, well, since it's revived....
This movie suuuuuuuuuuuucked. I don't know anything about X-men really and I've seen all the previous movies, but it was too high-school-drama for me. I haven't watched it in a while, and don't intend to ever again. I don't want to just say the acting was bad, but it was not the style of acting I like and therefor I couldn't wait until it was over.

I liked the plot, though!

I loved the movie. I'm a fan of the X-Men, and also of the first 2 movies. I despised the third movie, but I think that was mostly because the "creative" people involved seemed to not understand what the first two was doing, or the direction the original director was headed. Origins: Wolverine also falls into the same trap as the 3rd movie. First class seemed to work well with the first 2 movies for the most part.
I can see that you did not like it mostly because it does not follow the comics, but I'm not sure what you mean on your point #5. Why wouldn't they use the same actors?

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHH!!!!

I love comics, I love the x-men, I grew up on the x-men BUT when it comes to the movies I learned to not give a shit since the first movie that was not made by marvel and they messed around with so many relationships. I do my best to keep the x-men movies separate with the comics because I remember just how annoyed I got trying to watch a Harry Potter movie with someone who read all the books and spent the entire time talking about how the books were different and what the scene was like in the book and what the movie left out that happened in the book and in the book they did this and in the book they did that and the book the book WILL YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP I'M TRYING TO WATCH A GOD DAMN MOVIE!

After seeing the first x-men movie, or any movie that was made from any book ever- The movie is not going to be the exact thing that you have read in the books. Hell, especially in comics where the history has about a hundred different universes and their history has been written and re-written and re-re-re-written. A movie could be made the exact way from one comic story and some if not a lot of people would shout "BUT IN THIS STORY IT WAS DONE THIS WAY THIS MOVIE SUCKS BLWHWMEEEEEEEEEH!!" This isn't the first movie that did this so let me ask you this- What made you watch this movie or head into it thinking it was going to be any different? Or did you just want something to complain about?

I know that the first class had Jean Grey, Cyclops, Iceman, Beast, and Angel but the movie was set in the late 50s early 60s, so are you telling me they should skip the confusion right away for those who saw the first three movies of how Jean Grey and Cyclops were probably not even born yet, Iceman was a teenager, and Angel was a little bit older just so it stays true to the comic? Havok is Cyclops younger brother so with that logic Havok shouldn't even been alive yet to be in the movie.

It makes it much more dramatic if the reason why Xavier lost the use of his legs the way he did it effects his relationship with Magneto and Mystique forever two people he had the closest relationship with. Or should they have allowed him to walk and then out of nowhere in the movie an alien shows up and drops a rock on his legs?

I loved the time-period piece, being able to take things that happen in actual history with actual video and reporting it was used greatly with a twist saying what would happen if mutants had been involved, much like Watchmen asked what would have been different if there were superheroes in our history.

So in recap- don't watch any more movies you're not going to like what you see, and if you want to waste your money give it to me I can put it to good use.

I didn't mean to cause an uproar with this. It is just my opinion, and I know others have their own opinions. I just wanted a place to get out how I felt. I won't post my thoughts anymore if it's going to cause something like this...Sorry guys.

Post your opinion all you like and don't have my opinion effect your not posting here. Bit of an over reaction if you do. I am just confused. This isn't the first x-men movie made, or the first comic book movie made but your arguments behind not liking it make me have to ask what you were expecting.

If you didn't like the movie because of the acting or teenage drama or the movie itself go crazy, but when your arguments are behind the epic fails that is the movie didnt follow how the comics were written 100% accurately- yeah, and?
