So what would be the negatives of doing webcam modeling from home in Netherlands? I guess the big negative is a high tax rate, up to 50% of income?

The country is in between Germany and France and the UK, so it would definitely put you into the heart of Western Europe. It would be an interesting place to live for a few years if you planned to tour around.

Are there any webcam modeling studios in Netherlands?
I doubt there is any studios here. There is excellent network infrastructure everywhere, so connectivity is not an issue.

Our tax rates are indeed not the lowest in the world and can indeed go up to 50% income tax. However, as a model you would set up as a small business and there should be ways to work around that. I guess for a foreigner different rules might apply. Pay out in Dollars and conversion to Euro might be a negative also.
On the other hand, the before mentioned Siswet was on a documentary type tv-show recently and she is clearly doing very well here.

The biggest issue with trying to get into the EU from outside the EU to live/work is it's generally not that easy to get a (work) visa etc. So unless you want to work illegally as a "tourist" and country hop it's not that easy I think 🤔 although you also still need a tourist visa for that as well..

All the laws around that should be easily accessible online tho.

I just mentioned that the reply was in Russian and it might be better to translate it to English....
I'm sorry, I must have confused the text in the translator >< Thank you for writing about my mistake😁

Jael, if you wanna live in Europe u cant do it without beeing European citizen, u have a number of days u can stay in.. For example in Romania u cant even open a bank account on your name if you are not a resident and u can be a resident only if someone hiring you or getting married here :).. So yes an option is to move to Romania, we have a lot of sun :, and studios, and camming is legal :) . Maybe we can work togheter if you thinking about Romania . As Bunbun said, in Romania can hire you legal so u can stay, the studio pay taxes u getting ur part legal , and yes can give you place to stay in all bills paied . . i also give good traffic working with me wich is double win:) and i dont ask models to stay on cam more then 5 h a day, i know how hard is and we have a life too .. can pm me anytime :)

Internet in Romania is the best in all europe :)
Thanks for your reply! But unfortunately I don't consider working in a studio (I don't see the point of paying a big percentage to the studio for work, I can provide my own accommodation, I work my own schedule, not 5 hours a day) ) or living in Romania. I want to go somewhere more European, ah.

But if there are not many options left, I might have to move to you, because the most important thing for me is that the webcam is legal.
I can only talk for Cyprus. As a non EU citizen you can apply for a residents permit a few different ways.

A: Show you are earning over €9000 a year so that you don't need to be employed here - this is the easiest way as you just set up as self employed in UK and bring proof of your online earnings as a UK tax resident.
B: Arrive as a digital nomad, pretty similar to the first example but with a higher required earning
C: Spend at least 100k on a property
D: Get sponsorship with a company. This is least likely as the company in question would have to demonstrate they've advertised to CY and EU citizens unsuccessfully for at least 1 month. Also they would need to give you a contract and guarantee your job for 1yr

I think (hope) what bunbun was saying before about not paying taxes was just that if you're already a tax resident somewhere else and can demonstrate that it's not necessary in the country you're living. For here it's fine for e now as i have private health insurance, but in future i will become a tax resident so i can get a mortgage and have national health service entitlement
Thanks for your reply!
I have already started looking for information about moving to Cyprus. Am I correct in assuming that webcam is legal there?
Please follow up and let us know how you are doing! I have a model friend in Russia, and I am constantly worried her studio will be raided and she may be arrested. I wish you all the best! Stay safe!
In fact, studios get shut down quite often in Russia. Every few months (if not more often) there is news of the police breaking into the studio and taking everyone away.
As for models who work from home, without a studio, it doesn't happen very often. But there is news (e.g. one model was selling her photos/videos on the OF, and somehow the police came to her house and arrested her).
+ because of the new laws, it's getting scarier to work:
1. Inability to pay taxes to the state as it is impossible to register correctly at the tax office to file income tax returns
2. Webcam is banned in Russia. Fear that the police may come home
Attitude of citizens towards models. 3. Many people think it's something on the level of prostitution

Thank you for caring about us) I hope all will be well!
I actually looked into this a while back, camming is 100% legal in Cyprus and I think they even have decriminalized other forms of SW as well. Cost of living seems lower than many parts of Europe as well and it's very pretty. I think also legal in Greece, so some of those islands would be worth researching as well.

Portugal would also be worth looking into, they're a pretty progressive country.

I've also noticed a lot of models streaming in Kazakhstan lately but I don't really know anything about the legality of camming there or how culturally accepted it is, but it might be worth looking into. It could potentially be easier to move there from Russia if the war ends up making it more difficult for you to get visas in other countries.

Don't come to America. You will have a really hard time getting visas and residency as a self employed cam model.
Is a webcam also legal in Portugal?

I have heard a lot about that country, they say it is very beautiful and safe to live there (there are few crimes).

About Kazakhstan: just like in Russia, web-cameras are banned here. It would be more correct to say that there are no laws governing webcams: they are neither forbidden nor permitted. But there are laws "on the distribution of pornography", which you can already fall under (especially if you sell your photos and videos).

As far as I know, the standard of living in Kazakhstan is about the same as in Russia (if not worse (no offense to anyone)), and there's no point in going to exactly the same country((

I never considered the U.S. as a place to work, the cost of flights, difficulties in obtaining a visa and other peculiarities that do not tempt me(

-----------------------

If webcams are indeed allowed in Portugal, I'll consider that option too)

I would like more of your posts about Cyprus and Portugal :)

I was in vacation in Portugal 3 weeks ago, very beautifull and quiet place, i love it . Dont know if camming legal, also must check in the country you wanna move the internet speed they provide, isnt good enough for camming everywhere , i wouldnt move in Portugal becouse prices are double at everything then Romania, is pretty expensive, so making same amounts of money as a cammodel , i prefer to live in a cheaper country so i can save too ..

Well to work in EU, UK, USA etc and pay taxes you'd need to obtain residency of some sort. Usually this is possible by investing in the country - typically purchasing property that's value above some amount set by the country or by marrying citizen of the country. Or by being refugee and asking protection of the country. Or by getting a *real job* work in that country and employer to initiate\sponsor your residence.
Without being a resident of *whichever country* you not allowed to work, hence can't pay taxes, can't do proper long term rental contract, can't have fast internet in your name or even good cell phone plan, gym memberships and health care.
So you can
1) Find foreigner bf, get married and move to his country carry on working there.
2) Save up money while working in Russia and invest into property abroad that will give you residency or even citizenship.
3) Find regular work abroad, obtain work permit and do camming while working regular job to keep your residence.
4) Become a "refugee" that is you need to prove that for whatever reason (political, religious, lgbt) you being unsafe and abused in Russian and you seeking protection abroad.
5) You can cam abroad illegal and live there, staying in the countries on just tourist visa however long is allowed for you passport but you wont have good rental deals, good internet or phone deals, wont be able to have stable social circle, have to move with lots of belongings and be careful to not expose yourself.

I recommend you to very much look into your healthcare/insurance options because it's very expensive abroad if you not entitled for it like citizens of the country.

I decided to add my story and what I did for my move to maximize helpfulness of my messages lol:

I’m Ukrainian, cammed in Ukraine first at the studio and then at home I was doing really well since beginning and it allowed to me to travel the world, I started young - 18 y.o. and after seeing the world I wanted to move.

I got university degree in Ukraine, then moved abroad (nice Asia) for *regular work* employment that provided me residence and health insurance and I was selling content/custom content on the side to my regular customers. It was not possible for me stream because my *normal* work schedule was crazy. It sucked big time. Then I got better job with normal business hours.

I had a nice life there and of course dated around till I met the right boyfriend.

Then I got married, he’s USA citizen (residing abroad). Now I have husband’s residence in the country where we live and I have his international health insurance, as well as life insurance. This gives me work permit, healthcare, bank account, driver license etc etc everything that regular residents have just like when I had employment residence. Now I peacefully work from home as a cam girl/content creator. Hopefully my leg doesn’t step into office ever again and I won’t have to wear uncomfortable official clothes unless for roleplay show or content lol

We also own a property now in country we reside. I also obtained USA ITIN number which is tax payer number (as SSN but for foreigners/spouses of USA citizens), now my husband files his taxes as married including me in it.

I can apply for Green Card based on my marriage but then I’d need to maintain it - meaning is I’d need to spend 180 days a year in USA but I don’t want to do that because I don’t want be away from our home/husband this long every year lol I will apply when/if we decide to move to USA.

It will be exactly 4 years on the 8 June since I moved. Where there's a will, there's a way.

With the chaos and economy about to collapse, myself and a few buddies male n female have been considering Thailand... plenty of girls there will cam

Don't do it. Porn is illegal in Thailand. In the past, there were posts on this forum about a very popular cam model from Thailand getting busted for producing porn (There was also a drug charge, I believe). I remember that we worried about the possibly of her even facing the death penalty.

I've heard only good things about Portugal, except from the fact that people are more close-minded there than the rest of EU. I don`t think it's that much of an issue though.

@EasternPromis I love your story. I dream of getting out of my country and that gave me hope!

Okay, okay I will ask. I have been wanting to for a long time, but I have been afraid of the answers I may get.
(Deep breath) ... What kind of penalties do cam models face if their studios are raided in Russia? Right now I live in constant fear that my friend will be arrested. I am always worried.

In reality - probably none just will get very spooked if it happens.

I will share my story again ahaha I think I experienced it all being a cam girl in post Soviet Union country 😅

Back in a day when I was working at the studio in Ukraine one day my studio got closed by police, from my and my friends perspective what happened: I was day off but two of my friends went to the studio’s apartment to work, they started to eat salad and watch mfc girl while getting ready, when received a call from studio’s boss to leave and go home because studios apartments (they had like 15 maybe) being raided by police. My friends left home. In following days some of the studio girls including myself received a phone call from police basically saying “Are you Veronika XYZ? We have evidence of you working as webcam model in such an such studio, please show up to answer some questions in our department ABC on 1 July 2 pm”. I said nothing and hung up. I informed studio boss and he said just to ignore and they’re working on it. Police kept admins of the studio for 2 days for “interrogation” and studio bosses paid big bribe as if a cost of fancy Lexus (we’ve been told). Girls who were in the studio apartment when police raided were taken to police department as “witnesses”, asked some questions but police officers were nice and even some officers brought girls flowers because liked the girls. That was the end of it and studio re-opened. Why did it happen? Change of head in regional police department and studio bosses not agreeing about the new bribe amount.

Quick google search tells me that laws in Russia very similar to Ukraine. So what makes camming a crime?
Article 242 “Illicit production and circulation of pornographic materials or objects”. Punishment: fine from $1,834 to $5,500, or in the amount of the wage or other income of the convicted person for a period of one to two years, or by forced labor for a term of up to two years, or by jail time for the same term.

Interesting that when studios being raided most hit receiving admins! Usually models go as “witnesses” in the case and bosses too wealthy to bribe their way out, but admins somewhere in between - not too rich but also men who participated in organizing studios and even can be told on by the models “admins pushed me to do it by blackmailing etc”, so if someone to get a felony it’s usually admins.

The other things makes camming a crime though as it’s not paying taxes on income, financial fraud. I myself found it very problematic and my desire to move was mostly because of it.
Usually studio will pay models in cash, typically studio has Paxum (back in a day Payoneer) account or similar and cards from where they take cash each pay period and give models salary. Well it’s not a big deal when your salary is $500-2000 but if it’s higher you need to do something with money, it’s bigger danger for a model living alone with bunch of cash in her apartment… one girl I know was stalked by some dude who then hijacked her apartment, beaten her and stole money. One girl was grabbed by some man when she was leaving studio (at the apartment building entrance) and he demanded money saying he knows how much she makes, luckily she had shocker on her.
As independent model it’s even more pain in the ass with bigger amounts of money. You can’t have direct money transfer site —-> your bank. So you’re going though 3rd party, paying super high fees on transfer, money Withdraws, and still can’t securely save and protect your money.

holy shit... well I'm a dummy. My understanding was its not enforced.

Honestly our main interest was the cheap cost of living over there lol. I have a few bodybuilder friends that moved there, u can live as a single for like $700/month. I know a 75 yr old dude that retired there from my old gym. I keep in touch with him, hes like "I can live like a king here lol". He gets $1700/month SS and plenty to spare over there

Look I don't love living here but if that's what you're looking for Brazil is an option, with $2000 a month you can live veeeeery comfortably. I believe it's true for almost all of latin American countries, but Brazil and Argentina have a slightly better structure.

Oh yeah, we were looking at Brazil too. more expensive than Thailand but seems beautiful, and I love Brazilian women. Was checking out Costa Rica too. Research on there says most singles can live on $1000-$1500 a month.

Honestly studio being closed by police is one of the easiest ways for model to get away from studio and become independent. Say she worked for year in studio, saved money, knows how to work, knows she wants to do it for few more years, makes good income $3,000+/month. Studio closes, maybe even bosses scared or can’t bride - bye studio completely. Or studio bribes and re-opens, but she’s “too scared about experience, no money worth to live thru it again” - she tells them, then waits month or two, rents apartment, gets her camming set up done at home, makes new accounts different username in another sites, makes own Paxum account and card meanwhile - POW! independent model with all hers income.

More concerning is all the financial laws tho than this “porn” article, as for example my bank in Ukraine would nag me to death starting from $8,000 in my account asking to provide employment info, income source, if I own properties etc etc. 😵‍💫

Crazy how much I take for granted after reading a thread like this. Things that I don't even consider living in Canada for example, internet speed an issue? webcamming being illegal? porn being illegal?

Jeeesh, come to Canada we have it made over here considering the above. It's a beautiful country! :) We are also extra friendly and enjoy Tim Hortons coffee and maple syrup ;)

Does anyone know of any resources/directories of which countries do and don't allow camming legally? I've thought about moving abroad or perhaps long-term travelling whilst camming but finding reliable info on where camming is legal seems really difficult. Then on top of that, (coming from the now non-EU UK) you have to consider visas and taxes... it's so complicated I've put off looking into it!

Even the whole Australian working visa thing which sounds like a great idea, I'm scared to apply or ask questions about it because I don't know what their response would be if I said I'm planning to come and work as a webcam model. There's so much shame and secrecy involved with this industry it sucks!
Australia's strict on many aspects.
I'm sure you would find somewhere else more suitable.
