Too much? Not enough? I know they will get hot which is a bummer but a lot of the flourescent stuff I've been looking at is too blue and too expensive. These seem to have decent K (4800).

I live in an area where it is sunny all year long. I like to leave some windows open sometimes, any idea if these will work well in combo with natural daylight or do you think I will need to keep the shutters closed to appreciate what they can do? I am very pale, fyi.

B&H is no bargain for what they sell. It's all good stuff but you can find the identical elsewhere for less, if cost is a concern.
As to the lighting itself, 'can' reflectors tend to create harsher shadows and the direct light will most likely give you headaches with any extended use. [been a photog for many years]. I prefer the umbrella reflectors. I have them in silver, gold and white to give different hues using the same bulb. Cost wise, you can find them usually 2/$75 or so.

Hmm. As far as modeling goes, I think a lot of us find that direct light from lamps wash us out. Even a 60 watt bulb a few feet from me will make my skin glow bright white, and I think if you are pale the effect is worse.

Bob's suggestion of reflectors work well. Diffused light is often the best because it protects from glare.

Thanks guys, that's what I was worried about....(being washed out)

Maybe I will look into some cheap shop lights and get a decent diffuser?

BH I know ships here. I live in a US Protectorate and it can be a pain in the arse finding someone who will ship without an arm and a leg.

Any specific product/brand recommendations?

No brand advice here, but I really would not suggest spending a huge amount. A popular 'diffuser' is taping a white piece of printer paper over the lamp. When I was involved in some independent films, for diffusers they just used white poster board and white sheets. You definitely do not need pro equipment, beside having to buy lamps you can easily create your own diffusers with fabric, just by pinning it in front of lights, or having it strategically placed around the room. It would probably end up being much cheaper and could save you on shipping costs.
