Yesterday i got repeatedly bugged by someone telling me over and over he would place the order, and wanted the show right then. I explained to him how it worked and giftcard was the only way. He then repeatedly told me he was in the military and had a code of conduct. WTF?? Code of Conduct, really? You can barely speak english which was fishy enough, but im not stupid. There's definitely a sense of entitlement (rightly or wrongly) with the military doods. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen one of them announce their arrival in a girl's room with "I'm in the military, bb". Not "hello" or "how are you today?" or "hi, my name is..." but "I'm in the military". The common belief that men are "smarter" is more of a cultural phenomenon than any gender-based superiority. Most women are taught from early childhood that they are not good at math or incapable of thinking logically; this has a suppressing quality that may be difficult but not impossible to break out of. Same with men who are taught what their "role" is in life because of this and that. Other than brute strength, it just ain't so, IMHO.

The ones who pop in and are just all "Hey im in the military" im willing to bet really arent. Just like the one i encountered the other day. The true ones ive come across and my friends who are/were military never act that way. Nor do they expect or demand freebies.
And actually where im at Firefighters, cops, etc get discounts here. Free coffee, discounted meals, stuff like that. And they go to places they know give them discounts. I dont see it any differently than seniors going to places they know give them discounts. I won't say psychology is bunk, but I have a tendency to take such studies with a grain of salt. The problem is, it's difficult to get hard evidence to work with when prognosticating about differences between people, and time and again we find researchers who fudge figures unconsciously in favor of their own biases. Read The Mismeasure of Man by Stephan Jay Gould for some good examples. I do agree that individuals brains work differently, but how much of this is genetic and how much is environment? Part of it may also be ascribed to differences people have with regard to what they're interested in.
