Exactly! 150 years ago that was everyone's life.no one got in anyone's way. Now you have to compete to be able to live/survive/ exist.
Be thought of as needed by someone else's decision.

What a delusional remark. Where did you hear this?

That is just stupidly inaccurate. But if you have any alternatives to propose, I would be interested in hearing them.

When I hear things like that it's usually people that don't understand opportunity and opportunity costs.

Jobs are opportunities but have opportunity costs. Having to travel or spend time to prepare before work is opportunity cost. How people see you manage opportunity and their costs opens or closes more opportunities in the future

In a capitalist system money is base item to open opportunities. More money means more opportunities with less opportunity costs.

Society has agreed to give everyone a base educational opportunity. How that opportunity is used determines other ones in the future.

Wage slaves is an attitude that you should gain new opportunity without any risk of opportunity costs.

you had less opportunities 150 years ago than you do today because the cost of opportunity have decreased for basic survival. You spend less time for the opportunities to just live through the day.

Sorry for using the word opportunity so many times.

Where is the delusional part? You are a wage slave now. It's a fact. Your existence is based purely on money. No, I don't need to have a solution to know what's true. Technology didn't advance your life.it made you weaker and dumber.
You do everything you are told and believe everything you read from a source you had no say in giving them power.
Money is worth nothing. It'd just paper. The only reason it works is because you choose to believe it has value.

  • "150 years ago that was everyone's life.no one got in anyone's way." <<< delusional as it gets
  • "Now you have to compete to be able to live/survive/ exist." <<< and you didn't 150 years ago?
  • "Your existence is based purely on money." <<< these are the words of someone who takes food for granted
  • "You do everything you are told and believe everything you read from a source you had no say in giving them power." <<< you don't know me
  • "Technology didn't advance your life.it made you weaker and dumber." <<< if I start just believing garbage like you just spouted without questioning it, I guess so
  • "No, I don't need to have a solution to know what's true." <<< I'll put you down in the category of useless malcontent then (as far as this topic is concerned at least)

I always thought we switched to paper money because it got hard carrying around a few goats when all you wanted was a quick visit. Then you go international and find out they take llamas, so now you're trying to haggle that your American goat is worth way more than some llama that isn't even given the proper nutritional diet.

Maybe @Cal_blue tips cam models by Fed-Ex'ing a pig and a few ducks.

Lol you didn't have less opportunity 150 years ago. You didn't need opportunity. It's just a meaningless word.
You are proving my point. No one should need a chance to do something that takes from someone else (that doesn't have crap to do with communism either,I'm talking about the thought/ act in and of itself )
All your above thought is you worshiping money. You aren't actually understanding or thinking about anything I said. Capitalism and communism are the same thing. They are designed to fail.they are designed to implode.
You just blindly follow govt without questioning it.
What you think are opportunities are just finite regulations from someone else who says they are your governing body.

Lolol. Labor was definitely created to keep the masses subdued, as part of a conspiracy, and definitely not because businesses need labor to run properly and people are willing to trade their time for capital that they can further trade for shelter, goods, and services.

If I ever hired someone to do my busy work (you think it doesn't exist if you work from home, think again) it would definitely be because I want to keep them docile, nothing to do with the fact that watermarking videos and scheduling advertisements is time consuming and a mutually beneficial arrangement may be obtained by passing it on to someone else for profit.
I think that's probably going to go right over @Cal_blue's head.

Malcontent.

Be careful. Enough of you start gathering, and the situation is right, somebody is going to come along with the answers.

I took the liberty of striking through everything that was pointless and idiotic in your post. Capitalism/communism being 2 different roads that lead to the same place, that's something I wonder about.

Simply put, your answers prove you don't yet have the critical thought to understand what I said
You are in fact weaker and dumber thanks to technology.
If all the power went black. Most of us would be dead in 6 months. You wouldn't know how to survive. You fail to realize you actually do live in a matrix now.
You go to a,store instead of growing and hunting your food. Everything is done for you. You are at the mercy of the wealthy and their police, military. No one is too strong to question or challenge anything. If they do,the rest of the population is brainwashed enough to laugh at the person and not grasp anything more than what govt propaganda told them

weaker and dumber than who?

well no shit sherlock. I used to have my bugout bag. Used to worry about that. Realized there was little point.
You fail to realize you actually do live in a matrix now.
thanks for the heads up there, Morpheus.

so then, i take it money and labor being invented 150 years ago  isn't the real problem.
it is agriculture and organization

I can't believe people have conditioned to think it's necessary to pay their bills and eat. What a bunch of sheeple!
I am begging you, please don't respond to him anymore in the model bashing thread about this topic.

Better if we can let him "free our minds" here.

@Cal_blue It's funny you act like the oh so enlightened one while using the Internet right now.

Can we see your farm and your Amish home please?

All joking aside, about 15 years ago I looked into joining a monastery/going to live with the Amish. Pretty much for the reasons @Cal_blue is carrying on about.

Technology is and always has been a tool. It is the thing that has enabled, our species, born with minimal defense, slow speed, and cursed with offspring that take more than a decade to fend for themselves, to become the dominant species and the planet while more than doubling the average lifespan. All this was accomplished in the blink of an eye by evolutionary standards

You really think we are weaker, because of shovels, chainsaws, back hoes, electric motors and the internal combustion and million other devices. or dumber because of books, films, databases, computers and smart phone. How is that even possible?.

The most successful species are the ones that work collectively, from bees, to wolf packs, elephants, and dolphin. What makes a society, more powerful and efficient than individuals is specialization. Some members of group, make babies, some gather food, and some fight. Money facilitates this specialist, so no I don't have to learn how to grow my own food, nor does the farmer have to learn all the computer stuff I knew. The computer stuff I did enables the farmer to be even more efficient at growing food (and bunch of others thing that he may find valuable or fun like watching girls get naked on the internet, or communicating on message board with people from all over the world.). The farmer keeps me feed, and money keeps us from wasting a ton of time trying to barter how many bushels of corn my computer skills are worth.

You are right if electricity disappeared tomorrow many would starve. But that would true even if we were as self-reliant as you think people were 150 years ago . The thing that would cause is mass starvation isn't the lack of skills but the lack of technology.

Than people who know when to use "whom". (That's just a jab in jest. I want no part of that argument.)

Employers have historically paid workers as little as possible, and not based on the value of their contributions to the firm. That's how markets function in capitalist economies. I'm not personally a fan of it, and I think most people who feel they are getting the short end of the stick are not fans of it, but I think it is fair to say it is the system we as a society have chosen. I don't believe anyone has been brainwashed; I do believe individuals generally act in their own self-interest, but some people (on all points of the spectrum) don't acknowledge that as the source of their ideology. I don't believe the government does enough to redistribute the nation's wealth in a way that ensures every person's basic rights, but I think that has more to do with our political culture than the way people view their own roles in the economy.

"There is one rule for the industrialist and that is: Make the best quality of goods possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible."

Would be better for all I think if this is the way things worked.

I would disagree somewhat to this. I don't pay my employees based on there level on contribution. I pay them based on the value of their skills and how much is required so I don't lose them to another company. What I do feel is there are many people that don't continue to shop themselves in order to negotiate with their company. wages are designed to attract good workers toward you and away from competitors. Long story short most employees don't find out their market value so get underpaid as a result.

Lol you didn't have less opportunity 150 years ago.
okay, as a history nerd and someone whose degree specialized in the specific time frame you are talking about, you certainly DID have less opportunity 150 years go. And it is not a meaningless word, no matter how often you say that it is. If you were born a farmer, you stayed a farmer. If you were born a blacksmith, you stayed a blacksmith. If you were born poor, you stayed fucking poor. Class and social mobility did not exist until the 1920-50's, at least not as we know of it today, and even then it can be hindered by where you are born and what your family's socioeconomic standing is. Even today, social motility is limited.

People suffered just as much under the systems of the past as they do now. If not moreso.

Quick question, how does slavery fit into this manifesto you're concocting on this forum?

@Cal_blue It's funny you act like the oh so enlightened one while using the Internet right now.

No one is,acting like an enlightened anything. I'm just giving a viewpoint. You are interpreting it in a certain way. You are putting in emotion that my typed words aren't using.
Who said, anything about Amish? That's your limited stereotype of anything outside your mall, shoe store, Starbucks world that you've only allowed yourself to understand.
If all the money burned tomorrow, nothing would need to change. Money didn't create the machinery that makes things.Money didn't grow things from the ground. Money doesn't give any resource life.
We have all the resources we need.
Where did we start complying to people who said- unless you give us money, you can't have this or that...?
You feel the need to defend someone who reduced your life to needing money to live and be considered normal by other people just because you all chase rings on a merry go round.
Insanity = doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.
5 days on,2 days off for your entire life. ...that is insanity. But you've been trained to call it normal. You think lesser of people for not being a good slave like you. (I'm generalizing here. I'm not calling you anything.i mean the collective you)
