Video Quality Questions

Hi y'all,

I am new, posted a few times. I've been browsing through video questions but I have one I haven't seen answered. I am all set to start looking into making clips to sell (been on chaturbate a couple of weeks) until I mentioned this to a pal who has a background in video editing, asking him if he could recommend any free software. He got all intense on my ass asking what kind of computer I use. Now I cam (and plan to make videos with) my logitech c920 but my laptop is just a regular low-grade HP 250 G3 - it's worked fine for netflix, uni work and camming so far. He was horrified and said there was no way my laptop would be able to handle video editing. I was a bit thrown - I mean, I'm planning to make 15 min porn clips, not 3 hour motion pictures.

Sooooo my question is, do you all have special laptops out there? I surely can't be the only cam girl with a bog standard deal? What kind of quality should I be aiming for here? Is he right? should I not be making videos? Or is that just bonkers video-nerd madness and I should just use the equipment I have and produce whatever quality I can?

Opinions welcome, especially encouraging ones.

It really depends. I would try downloading a free version of Filmora. It will have everything you need to test the waters of editing videos. You will have to buy the software though, cause otherwise you're going to have a big ugly watermark.

If you film with your webcam, make sure you have good lighting and the quality should be okay

Of course if you want to get serious about clip making you would likely want to invest in better equipment. Which would mean a camcorder/DSLR and a high performance laptop or desktop.

You don't need to have a crazy fancy laptop to edit clips, but it does make it faster!

Obviously better equipment is great (especially if you know how to use it!), but it's way better to work with what you have than wait until you can afford something fancy. Most people buying amateur homemade porn understand that you aren't shooting in IMAX just be upfront about your clip quality, like list the specs, whether it's HD or not, and maybe some screenshots or a good gif that shows the quality.

I don't even edit mine. Ive realized people really like that super amateur thing where it doesn't randomly skip or you're in a new position our of nowhere. I make solos, couple and tease videos and it always works. Even if you do still wanna edit, I'd try this too.

He's crazy. For small videos like you want to do, almost any computer can handle it. The rendering time for the final product may take longer on older cpu's, but it will still get the job done. That said, if you wanted to move into merging several 4K quality scenes with thousands of edits, then yeah, you might want to upgrade. But the truth is I've edited half hour films on a 14 year old laptop with a duo core and 2GB of ram. It handled it fine.

And, if you do a search on youtube you'll find a couple years after I made this, the maker of that software decided to start making their own tutorials. They copied mine almost verbatim as their first tutorial. So, i'm rather amused at that.
