ok, back a few years ago i was writing a novel that got side tracked for a bunch of reasons. i keep dabbling at it but since part of the plot involved stuff that i had to abandon personally (drug use and other illegal activities) i couldnt get myself into the right frame of mind to write the central character and make him be who he needed to be for the story to work.

the lead female of the story was always intended to be in the adult entertainment industry (was going for a mary magdelene vibe). when the protagonist met her he was on the run from the fbi, dea and the cult that he had accidentally become leader of. he sort of broke into her house and found her in full dominatrix gear (stereotypical stuff anyway) with a client. around this time i found MFC and decided to work camming into the story so i re worked it into her doing a submissive show instead. she gets swept up into the chaos surrounding the "hero" of the piece and ends up saving him from the mob chasing him, but his explanation about the cult ends up being broadcast to all her viewers which takes the cult nationwide, and makes her the priestess to his priest for all the crazies.

now the whole reason im posting this is that the idea itself still nags at the back of my head pretty regularly, so i think im going to rework the parts of it that required me to be stoned off my ass to express honestly and give it another go. but since i have come to have a deep respect and affection for models in general, and the ladies of ACF in particular i feel a dread that i will get it wrong and insult them without intending to.

so my question is: if i finish this thing would the majority of models think i was a total dick for making the cam model heroine of the story into a bit of a madonna figure (and i dont mean the entertainer) one part savior of mankind, one part delusional fantasy of her followers, and one part mother figure to the hero? i worry it crosses a line somehow in some nameless way i cant seem to figure out. if so i can just abandon the idea entirely and do other stuff, if not then it might be a story i can turn into something pretty cool.

I would not be offended. As long as you put that whole "this is a work of fiction. Any relation to real circumstances is entirely coincidental." at the front.

i saw something similar once emptied.. it was the kernel of the idea for me, you know... what if this was what happened, and then this, and then this. the scene just unspooled in my head of this guy, clothes ragged and full of holes from rose thorns, spots of blood here and there around them climbing in through a window and begging this half clothed lady not to shoot him because it is really all his mother's fault for writing that damn book. the dialogue was just there in my head, and i suck at writing dialogue.

"what do you mean your cult will kill me?"
" well its not really my cult, they just want me to let them worship me"
"well who can blame them? you do cut such a striking figure after all"
Of course by this point i was covered in mud, blood, semen and some other unidentifiable substances and reeking of marijuana and coffee. I turned my bloodshot eyes up to her and begged
"Please, really this is all my mother's fault. she wrote that damned book, then i had sex with her and nothing has gone right since"

it goes on, but trust me it is like a really bad trip mixed with horrible humor and done by a guy that worships at the altar of vonnegut and pahlaniuk. i would never be able to get it published, but i still want to get it written before i hit 40 lol

Lulu.com

self-publish.

Only downside is you have to buy a copy for yourself and approve it before you can actually sell the copies.

I've been in the self-publishing/DIY print game for a long time, and I have to say that there are far better alternatives than Lulu.com or any print-on-demand services out there, which make their money from the creators who provide the content and not from consumers of that content. Yes, there is no initial investment on the part of the creator to use Lulu's services, and that's the appeal, but what you're giving up in return is the ability to competitively control your pricing (they're selling you printed copies of your works at just below retail pricing, and then, for you to make any money on your own book, you have to jack up the price -- add a couple of bucks per sale to go into your own pocket, and suddenly the cover price is too high.) If you can raise the initial capital and have a place to store your books while you sell them, there are plenty of printers out there who can print at a per-unit rate that is a fraction (or even a fraction of a fraction) of the cost of what Lulu charges for POD privileges. Hell, most towns or counties have print shops that are capable of such jobs and would probably be happy for the work, and if you're going the self-publishing route, it pays dividends to establish a nice working relationship with your printer.

If you're strapped for cash and space, e-books are all the rage. I hear tell that they're making paper and ink obsolete ( .) Seriously, though, formatting a PDF file version of your book for a Kindle or iPad and putting it up on one of the many marketplaces that have been established to serve what is definitely a growing market would cost you nothing but a little time and hard drive space. And since there is no material overhead, you're going to be able to better set a fair market price and still ensure that you're getting some money for your efforts. For self-publishers, it should definitely be seen as a primary option. If you're really ambitious, you could do both -- print the books and do electronic downloads. It's the wave of the present! And if you really want to be totally DIY and punk rock, you could make chapbooks with a home printer or photocopy machine and try to trick the cool kids' stores like Powell's in Portland to sell them.

zippy, what marketplaces would you recommend for selling the pdf copy?

I am once again doing what might be better advised, - I am posting after reading the OP only, because I had some pretty strong feelings as I read it. I reckon this here post might not meld too well with the other post already up, or others that come after it, but there are some things I feel strongly enough about, that being odd man out may be the price I'm willing to pay.

First, the character make up of the heroin Model you have suggested is a vivid image, and as believable as any I might imagine. I do not find it untrue or misrepresentative of the possible fiction that one could honestly draw from fact.

Second, This is a work of fiction you are suggesting. Fiction, even science fiction does not work if it fails to make any connection to reality. I understand you not wanting to insult any of the Models here, or any Models for that matter, but I would not worry that you might do that while telling a single story. It is a single story, a single thread, that you will un-weave with skill, from the tapestry of your reality of adult camming. It is not Representative of all, or even most of the Models that are the rest of the picture.

Let the finished story answer your questions, - if it holds no truth, it will be un-memorable, and no one will think you a dick. IMhO, this is the only real concern one should have when sharing their story with the world, - that the world will not care enough, to care.

Bottom line, you should not be such a pussy and write the story that moves you, the story that inspired the thought, the narrative in your head, - not some watered down version biased on the approval of Models who have no real way to answer your question - they don't know the story - only you do.

Tell it like you mean it brother. I envoy the story telling skills you have, and wont now, or later, go easy on ya, if I perceive weakness in wielding that sword. :eek:rcs-cheers: with love my friend.

Aside from giving minimal efforts to the webcomic game, I'm still an e-publishing luddite and prefer print, but I do try to keep up on the trends of the game. I don't think it's any secret that the two biggest marketplaces for digital books are definitely going to be Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing service and Apple's iBookstore service since they're the two big kids on the tablet/e-reader playground, and most people just go hide under their shadows. But just about all content providers are in this game, and certainly those who have tablets and e-readers to sell. Google has Google Play, Barnes & Noble has Pubit! and there are, of course, services out there that run independent of some of these internet empires. So, it really comes down to figuring out what you want for your product, and finding the service or services that best fit your needs. That could mean that you'd rather just sell it from your own website through paypal payments, and not worry about setting up a storefront with one of these bigger retailers.

The biggest thing to bear in mind is that publishing -- especially self-publishing, no matter what the realm -- doesn't end with getting a book ready and available on Amazon. You and about a million other people have done the exact same thing. There is a three-point mantra in the small press game:

1. You're not going to make any money.
2. Your audience will be small, and your success will be almost completely dependent upon how successful you are in generating word of mouth for your work.
3. Seriously, though, it'll be a miracle if you make any money.

With regards to point two, there really are a lot of parallels to something like cam modeling, where just being there and looking pretty isn't going to pay your bills. Substitute "book" for "model" and it's pretty much the same story. The real work is in the marketing, and the real payoff is going to come from how well you manage in that arena. As for points one and three, well, if you're crafty or come with a built-in audience, you might just pull it off. I could see if a popular cam model decided she wanted to do some kind of publishing project, it would serve as a nice bit of merchandising to offer for fans.

lots of good advice here :thumbleft:
reading your story synopsis, the film noir narration line about this being the city and their being a million stories keeps popping up in my mind....your camgirl is fictional: a carefully crafted (or she's gonna end up being that way  ) brew of personality traits and sexuality, motivation and story devices designed to engage the reader.
somewhere in all that, there's gonna be a thread of your sensitivity to reality....it's likely in the part that makes her a hero....and a cult leader

put it all together, ss...sounds like a good read.

Always wondered what it would be like to witness something "major" on a cam feed.
So far one of the more interesting things I've been witness to is a police visit (though it all happened off cam, in a different room, and - thankfully - we couldn't hear what was being said).
I saw a guy break into a girls backyard while she was on cam and she ran and got a gun, then he left.

I started to write a story once, but I have ADD so I am still working on title page!!

Was in a girl's chatroom once and the topic turned to stalkers. She said she wasn't worried, and then proceeded to show off an impressive collection of handguns. Best stalker deterrent ever.

After being at MFC for about a year, and having a recent set of PM's from a distort member who was obviously way too hooked on a Model, I imagined a story line, and wrote a short story that went something like this.

Member gets hooked on Model, member makes a string of mistakes, (you discover he is socially challenged), and gets himself banned. After numerous failed attempts to get himself un-banned, he decides to open a member room and through another member convinces the Model to open his room at a cretin time. What she sees is the member in the process of hanging himself. Unable to stop him, she witnesses the hanging, along with several other room regulars - all trying in different ways to convince him to stop, but having no luck. You are left with the feeling (if written well), that perhaps all the pleading had caused the member to go through with it, in a "I'll show you" sort of way.

I sent it to SoTxBob, and we both agreed it would not be something very surprising if it did happen. It was too dark and I did not want to put time into it because of that, and the realness of its possibility. :(

im making notes on it already, got about 3 chapters re-written so far, though i havent gotten to the part that i mentioned here yet, that's still in my head and on my notes document. im glad i got sparked on this one since my fantasy novel was dead in the water :(

I thought this might help:

(felt the quote was necessary to make it very apparent that I'm talking to southsamurai. I approve to camstory not writing the draft for his short story... as he said, too likely to really happen.)

lmao! i dunno, im a frakkin nitpicker even on a first draft sometimes. if i get inspired i usually just get it all out and edit later, but if i start something and have to stop and come back to it i have to get it all right the first time... i guess my slight ocd traits coming out?

I do the same thing. :p I'm being really... well. If it's within the past couple paragraphs, I'll go back and fix it. If it's something I realize just made a previous part irrelevant, I'll fix it. Otherwise, I try to let it be.
