Was I the only on that heard that after the 2015 movie, there will be one new Star Wars movie every year?

I reaaally hope that's not true. Disney would ruin one of the best movie franchises ever.

Well the plan is that there will be a new Star Wars movie every year, but not all of them part of the ongoing saga. So we will get Episode 7 in 2015 (if production really gets a move on!) Then a Boba Fett stand alone movie on 2016, a young Han Solo movie in 2017, and episode 8 in 2018, and so on.

I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Realistically Disney spent a hell of a lot of money for the franchise and are going to want to start getting that back pretty quick. These movies are probably going to make a billion a movie unless they are complete turds, and the prequels have set the bar so low it would be hard for Disney to stuff it up!

I kinda think that a third of them will be great, a third of them will be ok, and a third of them will probably suck. So if they're coming out once a year that hopefully means at least there will be an awesome new Star Wars movie every 3 years!

Also I think Disney will exploit the franchise better than Lucas did, in that they wont let ego get in the way of making better movies.

Fans - 'we want the original versions of the movies on blu-ray'

Lucas - 'sorry my versions are the only versions that exist'

Disney - 'If we sell 25,000 of them we will make a branching version where you can have whoever you want shoot Greedo!'

I think the seventh will be fantastic, all others I'm skeptical of. The special affects and such
will be beyond but who says that Disney can keep the 8th- whatever as good as the original
trilogy?

I am very glad Abrams is directing, although Joss Wheedon was my first pick. If Wheedon
had directed Star Wars, I'd fan girl all over the freaking place.

I don't think the new trilogy of 7,8 and 9 will be as good as the originals just because no matter how good they are I can't watch them through a child's eyes anymore. Star Wars was the first live action movie I saw at the cinema, and as a 6 year old it blew my mind!

Lucas originally envisioned 12 movies in the original trilogy, then when Star Wars was a success revised that down to 9, three trilogies of 3. When he was making the prequel trilogy he changed his tune and said he had always only intended to make six, and it was a chronicles of the life of Darth Vader. How much of what Disney make is based on what George Lucas had planned all those years ago is really anyone's guess at the moment. Will it be his vision? Will it incorporate the expanded universe cannon or not? Will Disney do their own thing? I'm hoping Disney will do what they have done with the Marvel license and bring in writers and directors that know and love the original material and pay for the movies, but keep their hands off. May be in this case Disney might help Lucas keep his hands off to and have the clarity of vision for the project that they can see what isn't working and tell Lucas to step back if they need to. Let him advise but not dominate.

Things that sound good so far (to me)

Good writer, good director.

Lucas taking a back seat.

Hamil, Fisher and possibly Ford.

More practical effects.

In talks with John Williams about music.

Just from that you can see that Disney want to win over fans that may have had issues with the prequels.

I heard Ford is for sure in. C3PO and R2-D2 are supposed to
be in ALL the Star Wars movies, which I like.

I have a thing for the ewoks so I'm hoping those are included.

I'm so pumped for more Star Wars but there is a very high bar
Disney has to reach. They did great with the Avengers and Abrams
rocked the fuck out of Star Trek, but I'm still cautiously optimistic.

I am mostly apathetic towards anything new with Star Wars. I have no idea why, it is kind of a bummer.

well, im sort of torn on the idea myself. i don't think disney will do too horribly with what they put out, though it might be a bit dumbed down for most folks who are long time star wars fans. (not that either trilogy so far has been super hard scifi)

its more that beyond a certain point movies arent the way to continue the universe. another trilogy about the next generation of jedi, the children of han and leia, or whatever (which was done in book form and other media already) might be enough story for 3 movies, depending on how theyre done.

but more backstory on the traditional favorite characters could get annoying. how would you even cast a young han solo? the life of boba fet? eventually you arent going to care very much about the franchise at all. ad in the clone wars tv series to the mix and there is so much already out there that keeping a single coherent timeline will be difficult at best (that series btw is already messed up as far as staying within the bounds of the movie storyline imo, though it remains decent)

so, i dunno. ill want to see the first effort or two before i give up. if they are done well it could keep what started as an interesting and fun universe alive.

Looks like episode VII will be an adaptation of the expanded universe books following leia and hans kids with luke being their teacher. The boy eventually turns to the dark side. I haven't read the books. Just looked at a bit of the wiki.

That sounds promising.
