So to start off, I haven't started camming yet I'm just considering it seriously.

At the moment I stream video games on the site Twitch.tv, which as great as it is just doesn't make me enough money on its own (about 1,300 a month). I have quite a few followers on twitch (about 13,000) and on multiple social media sites (Instagram, Twitter, snapchat etc.)

I know that if I start camming my fans will find out, which I don't really have a problem with. What I have a problem with is the fact that my full name is easily found out with a little research. If I start camming the people from the cam sites would find my twitch, and would easily be able to find my last name, unless I take some really serious steps towards security.

I guess my first question is, what steps (if any) should I take towards security? Would it be unwise to start camming if there's the potential of people finding out my full name? Is it okay for people to know my full name as long as I'm safe about hiding my address?

Have you ever had an issue with other people finding out your real name?

You shouldn't cam, dude. Yeah, they'll find out, and yeah, that's one of the scariest things that can happen to you when you're a sex worker.

I think a lot of this depends on where you live and whether you would be out. If you plan on being completely out with your family then I personally wouldn't write off camming completely. It's a huge decision but it sounds like you know that. Stalkers are a real risk, of course but not everyone who cams feels the need to live the very strict double life that many people do.

I hope someone can chime in with advice regarding the security measures you could take.

The security measures really depend on your personal situation. But no matter how many steps you take, if the info is already out there they will find it. This is not necessarily a threat to your personal safety if you are careful about other details like your address. It is mostly a matter of reputation and accepting the social consequences of it. If you do decide to cam make sure that whatever you do on cam it is only things that you will be comfortable with people seeing.

Because people think we have a deeper connection than we do.

Not that that doesn't happen with celebrities probably just as much, cus it does.

But we're literally selling the experience that we like you, so someone who has a tendency towards stalking will create imaginary scenarios and be more likely to stalk someone fulfilling a false idea of a relationship with them.

Also we're targets of people wanting us dead because they hate us, so there's that, too.

Why are sex workers more likely to be targeted by stalkers?

I think it's a mix of being "sort of a celebrity" and being highly accessible virtually. Celebrities have a wall of people you have to get through to have interaction whereas camgirls are there with a click if they're online. People who are prone to obsessive behavior can fixate on a model since camming can be very candid and personal. Also the sexual element possibly. Assuming models want to meet in real life/or there's a deeper connection than a simple member/model relationship.

Possibly because they're seen by so many more people than regular folks. The same seems true with celebrities.
Plus there is a more sexually intimate relationship in their interactions.

So I've taken steps to make sure my full name is no where online, including my person Facebook, my address is no where online (no wish list or anything). I'm not trying to make it impossible for people to find out my name, I'm just trying to make it harder so people will be more likely to give up after a failed Google search (I know there would be people who would obviously try harder than that).

I don't have any real issues with the social implications, and I've already told my immediate family that I want to pursue this to which they said 'go for it, we'll support you no matter what'.
