I've been on a real point-and-click adventure game kick, lately. It's kind of like reading a book or something, only more interactive, which is a nice way to relax. There have been a lot of sales featuring adventure games lately. Anybody go suggestions of games I should look out for?

On the same token, recommendations for visual novels, if they aren't too emo/romance manga, would be cool, too.

One of my all time favorite point and clicks is pretty cheap on GOG right now. "Torrin's Passage" and if you've never played them the King's Quest games are always amazing. I don't have any suggestions for visual novels though, it's not something I ever got into...

I am a HUUUUUGE Point and Click Adventure fan!

Many of my favorites are the wonderful LucasArts ones such as:

Maniac Mansion
Day of the Tentacle
Monkey Island Series (all so good)

Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert are both point and click masterminds and have made some amazing things. If you see point and clicks from them, I feel it's almost a guarantee that it'll be good.

Tim Schafer (Double Fine) recently did a Kickstarter for an incredible point and click game called Broken Age. It's beautiful and definitely very awesome. Currently just the first half is available but if you buy the first half they will send the second half once it is done. I got it and finished it fairly recently and I can't wait to see the second half! He also worked on The Cave which is another marvelous point and click.

The Deponia series is actually on sale on Steam right now and I enjoyed the first one (not as polished as the LucasArts or Shafer games but still lots of fun) so I'm considering getting the other two as well!

The Sam and Max series was lots of fun as a kid, I haven't played it recently though! I think they're still coming out with games in that series.

The Walking Dead games are actually point and click adventures which surprised me! I've played through some of the first one so far and it was lots of fun and really interesting! Different than classic point and click and definitely cool if you're into that series or zombies.

Mr. Pond is adding Full Throttle to the list, though I haven't played it. It's another from LucasArts and Tim Schafer.

Day of the Tentacle and The Monkey Island series (Secret of Monkey Island, most notably) are probably my top picks (and Mr. Pond's too!)

This might be one of my very favorite genres of games so I'm so excited to get to share some recommendations! Enjoy!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I did pick up a bunch of games from the Daedalic sale, including the Deponia trilogy, and while I don't know if I'm too interested in The Walking Dead at the moment, being a Fables fan, I am excited about A Wolf Among Us, which I got on sale a few days back. I may wait until all of the chapters are released before playing it, though. I hope there's a Telltale sale at some point down the road. I'd love to be able to try some Sam & Max games, as well.

They've got the first two Monkey Island games bundled for $15 on Steam. Worth it, or should I wait for a sale?

I second and OH MY Monkey island :h:

But if you like supporting indie games, i recommend Machinarium. The game is incredible amazing and beautiful.

That. Looks. Incredible. I'm checking it out on Steam right now. (UPDATE: Just bought the Amanita Collection, so I got Machinarium and a couple of other beautifully strange-looking games, as well!)

And it seems that both Monkey Island and Sam & Max have full series bundles for sale through Amazon! Not very big savings, though. I may have some trouble actively stopping myself from buying everything right now and waiting for a sale. Curse my completionist collector's mindset...

This probably isn't what you're looking for but other than the old school Kings Quest or Space Quest games, i'm reminded of Shadow Gate and the Uninvited which were point-&-click horror games. I remember these 8bit gems scared me shitless when i was much younger.

The Myst series is one of my perpetual favorites (there are 6 games in all, though Uru is a bit different from the others.) Epic storyline that continues from game to game, good graphic design, and really unique puzzles. I replay them all in order at least once a year, and they never get old. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myst_(series)

I remember playing Shadow Gate as a kid, and just being enthralled. It was so long ago that I don't remember any of the details about it, really, except the sphinx. The sphinx has been permanently burned into my brain. It would be fun to play it again.

I've been really wanting to try "The Wolf Among Us" by Telltale Games. It's based on the Vertigo Comics series "Fables". I hear it's pretty good! As soon as I get a spare moment I'm going to dive into it.

Me too. I might wait until all the chapters are completed, though, since I'm not a big fan of episodic storytelling.
