I bought a new Jeep Wrangler earlier this year. I had wanted one from the time I was 16 and was finally able to afford it so I splurged and treated myself to my "dream car". I am still a huge fan of Jeep, and I really like mine BUT I don't love it like I thought I would. Im not utilizing the full features or using it off road like a jeep is meant to be. One of the reasons being I just don't have the time right now and the other being I brought it brand spanking new (something I said I would never do...but did anyway) and I just cant see driving a $40k car off road etc....I realize thats what its made for but thats another story in and of itself.

Right now I am considering trading it in for either an automatic (mines manual) Jeep just like what I have but I have also been test driving other style vehicles. This is something I did not do initially because I thought that I was 100% sure about wanting the Jeep. I test drove a 2011 Camaro SS (15000 miles) yesterday and when I sat in it I just feel in love. I felt about the Camaro how I *thought* I would feel about the Jeep but I definitely don't want to have buyers remorse so I am coming to you guys.

Can you give me your opinion on the Camaro? I have never been around them, I have done a little research myself and talked to friends but I would love to hear your personal opinion on them.

***Also want to note that I am also considering just trading it in and getting a nice small car thats good on gas (Honda Accord/Kia Optima) but I just can't get that Camaro off my mind.***

More of a Ford Mustang guy myself with the newer models, but the older Camaros were awesome. :-D

I'd suggest you shop around some more and take some time to really think about it or you might end up doing the same thing with another vehicle that suddenly tickles your fancy.

Yes, I am definitely going to shop around more and think on it. The Jeep will hold its value so until I can make a good decision I will be holding on to it. If nothing else I will just swap it for the Automatic.....Im not thrilled with the manual.

If you have Netflix you can find both the Camaro and the Mustang in the Top Gear U.K. series. I think the Top Gear U.S. also featured the 2012 Camaro, but the British do a much better job.

The only strong opinion I have is, that if the sales person who showed you the Camero is very good at their job you will probability own the Camero by the time you read this, or have an appointment to talk to him/her later today when you will buy the Camero.

Ahh wow so you drove in looking for a practical car and almost drove out in a camaro

I don't know anything about the reliability of the Camaro, my only comment would be it depends how much space you need, how many people ride with you frequently. If it's just you and one other person and you don't cart much around then the camaro is fine, but if you regularly have 2 or more other adults in the car...no.

No, I didn't go in looking a practical car.....I don't necessarily want a "mom" car but if I dont find something that I can truly fall in love with and really really want I would much rather not have a car payment and just buy something nice small and economical straight out than worry about financing.

Im picking it up tonight so I can drive it tomorrow running errands and get a feel for what it would be like as a more everyday car. Granted sometimes I don't leave my house for days at a time and when I do I rarely go more that 20miles away so even as having it as everyday car it will more likely only be driven 2-3 times per week.

May I suggest the Mitsubishi Evo X? The touring version is what my friend just purchased and I can not put into words how amazing the car is for the price. He had a Subaru WRX previously. Another friend had the Camaro SS and while a "nice" car it does not compare favorably, in my opinion, to the Evo X.

It sounds like a beast for running errands in traffic and was built more as a cruiser.

Luckily Im not from the big city and most of the rd's I drive on are pretty empty, especially when I can pick and choose what times of day I drive so I can just "cruise" around town :-D

Im definitely going to be looking into other cars as well but figured what the hell, since they are offering to let me drive it for a day I may as well take advantage of it!

I've had both over the years and while they are both fun, they are opposite ends of the spectrum. The Camaro SS was faster than shit and 'felt' good to be in. NOT economical in the least to drive around. The Jeep I liked for the open feel and the off road ability of course. It served its purpose well on the beach and in the hill country.
What you end up with hopefully will serve your purpose more than your car "lust"...lol.
I've decided I like room to carry much more than "cool joe" feel in a car.
I'm looking at the GMC Terrain/ Hyundai Santa Fe class rt now and that seems about right for me and the dogs. Happy hunting !

Your mistake with the Jeep was buying a new one. There is no way in hell I could take a $40k Jeep off road and have fun with it. You'd love it if it were older and you could take it off road...I promise ya. I've owned a 98 since it had 14k miles on it and wouldn't trade it for anything. Mainly cause when I want to get covered in mud....I just don't worry about what will happen with the Jeep.

I'd try the auto in the Jeep, see if you maybe like it more. But honestly if your ass hit the seat on the Camaro and you loved it...then anything else will not feel as good.

The Camaro is a great car, except for the few things that haven't been mentioned so far. The terrain that you are driving in... is there any possibility of snow or ice? not a great vehicle on either. Like was said before the lack of room in the Camaro limits how many things you can have in the car.

If mileage is a concern, the Chevy Volt has been reported at having awesome ranges, the gas motor doesn't kick in until around the 30 mile mark of a trip so you could feasibly travel all week without using any fuel if the most that you drive is 20-ish miles at a time.

Thank you guys for your opinions!

I drove the camaro over the weekend and while I really enjoyed driving it and it's a beautiful car it's not me or at least not what I would want for my only car. I had 2 beautiful days of weather here and I took the doors back off my Jeep and it made me remember why I feel in love with them so Im trading my manual for an automatic and keeping it. Im going to just look a small 4 door used car that I can buy straight out for my run around town car and enjoy my jeep in good weather.

I agree, if it was an older model I wouldn't think twice before taking it off road however I plan to keep it and not get rid of it soooo eventually it will be an old off road vehicle I will just enjoy the new while it last. Also for now I take it down to the river or drive it on the beach so it is still getting some off road use, just nothing compared to what it is actually capable of doing.

It may snow/ice once maybe twice a year here so weather conditions are pretty good for any type of vehicle.

Ive owned the manual since April but Im tired of driving it! Picking up the automatic today.....its still 4 wheel drive so it will do just as much as the manual w/less hassle on me. As far as brownie goes, I have had a 2 door car before and I will usually lay down the back seat so that it is open from the backseat all the way through to the trunk which is more than enough room for her to lay down and ride. She still hasn't even been allowed in the Jeep...brown hair on black interior seems like a nightmare
