Hello All, I am new here so forgive me if this has already been posted. I have been researching my options for leaving the US. Has anyone cammed/created content while living in Portugal? I know it would be best to consult an immigration attorney about legalities but I am curious how people who made the jump abroad feel now and if there is anything they would do differently to save money or avoid annoying problems that can be avoided. It seems that Portugal has a more progressive stance on porn and SW, but I figure it's worth getting opinions from other SW's.

Cheers.

That depends are you currently in a state that has state income taxes? If you are in CA for example you need to do everything you can to move to some where else in the usa first that doesn't have state income taxes.

Some states that have income tax you can file non resident paperwork and not have to pay taxes but depending on the state that can be a hassle and I don't think any of the do-it-yourself tax sites can handle that.

Why did you pick Portugal? Just curious.

def consult with a tax lawyer, and consider opening a corp to run your adult biz through if taxes would be less expensive that way (avoiding double taxation). Delaware is a good state for that, you don't even need to be an American. I know the US isn't exactly SW-friendly when it comes to banking, but a generic-name corp can be useful when it comes to that both inside the US and globally

in planning the move, save double the money you anticipate you'll need. add more if you're planning to move with pets

for sure work with the lawyer on the visa stuff, and figure out beforehand the easiest, most cost effective ways for you to have access to your savings and your income once you land and start to settle in. I've lived in a few countries, each one has needed a slightly different strategy

at least you don't have to worry about the legality of adult if you move there! lol, my first island in my move out of Canada was a country where it was even illegal to import sex toys. I brought my strap on anyway and cammed and clipped my little heart out, just was super discreet about it

before replying I looked at some pics of Portugal in goog images. it's really beautiful

I dont understand, what kind of corp and how would that avoid double taxation?
that's where a tax lawyer would come in. maybe it's not an issue but living in one nation but being a citizen of another...it's a factor in planning. a c corp in Delaware is pretty inexpensive and any income that is generated by the corp is taxed separately from the owner

I'm not American or Portugese so just rec'ing that she explore the idea if double taxation (being taxed in both the US and in Portugal on the same income) is an issue

having a corp can also sometimes (operative word) create a bit of a buffer re debanking for being in adult, when it comes to maintaining US banking while living abroad

Thats unlikely to faze the foreign country because of CFC rules. I don't think it will work for Portugal but I'm no expert.

The problem with starting a business for your adult income in usa is that it's way easier to find a personal checking that's adult friendly than it is a business checking. At least that's been my experience. Charles Schwab also refunds atm fees so it's a nice bank account to have. (Personal checking they don't have business accounts)

Thanks for responding. Some states make it easy to set up a business in order to avoid income tax, like South Dakota for example.

It appears Portugal is more progressive, it's sunny, and best of all, they offer a digital nomad visa that would allow me to apply for a residence visa to gain citizenship.

I do not want to be in the USA under any circumstance. This country is unrecognizable and no longer safe or a democracy. It wants to make porn illegal, which would put me out of a job and possibly jail considering the severe language in the most recent bill proposing to ban it.

So I am leaving, if not to Portugal, than to damn near anywhere else that will allow me to work as I do.

Thanks, that's helpful. Other people on the Reddit expat forums have scoffed at the idea of hiring a lawyer, but i would feel more comfortable having someone else work out the tricky stuff for me provided I could afford it.

Yes, it seems Portugal and other EU countries are more progressive, so my work should be fine. Many of them offer digital nomad visas that can be a first step to applying for permanent residence, which is what I'm shooting for as the USA is no longer a democracy nor is it safe. In fact, camming (or any production or sharing of porn) is about to be illegalized per a recent bill. Oh, sure it hasn't passed... YET.

is it inappropriate to ask exactly how you got away with camming where it wasn't legal? God, could you imagine getting deported over a dildo?! It's a South Park episode waiting to happen.

Thanks, that's helpful.

She’s also the only responding person in this thread who’s an actual MODEL. So I’d definitely pay close attention to her advice. :)

Opening a corp to avoid double taxation, sure pay close attention to that advice :giggle:.

Im an actual US citizen living overseas being paid by multiple cam companies in the exact same method as any other model and face the exact same tax and bank challenges.

Hey, smartass. Maybe let actual models respond first before jumping in to an ASK-A-Model with your two cents. Though I know some of you guys on here can’t seem to help yourselves…..

And Jesse told her to consult with a tax lawyer.

I waited a day no one responded, you know any other expats on this forum?
Edit: US expats*

Nope, I don’t know every single person on this forum.

I can’t say I’m loving the idea of camming in a place where camming is illegal. But if she has questions about the legalities, and a veteran model (who seems to have some knowledge on the subject) is recommending she talk to a lawyer…and it sounds like she was already considering that anyway during the creation of this thread…I think going that route is better than listening to a bunch of randos on Reddit dissuade her from talking to a lawyer.

Totally understanding the part of wanting to leave.
As a EU citizen and seeing the shift here towards right wing politics Portugal gives me a little hope tbh.

My main worry with Portugal would probably be how climate change will affect the country going forward, it's just getting drier and drier each year and issues with water might become a reality rather sooner than later.
Heat waves becoming more common etc.

But I'm also keeping an eye on it as a possible escape if Germany decides to repeat history ?

The only lawyer that could really advise on the situation properly is an international tax lawyer, harder to find, way more expensive. It would really depend on the models income if its very high and she doesn't plan to renounce citizenship then yes thats definitely the route to go.

That’s what Jesse said in post #3…a tax lawyer. It’s the op’s decision whether or not to pay for a tax lawyer. I’m at work on my break, and I’m done with this conversation. Have a good day.

A tax lawyer and an international tax lawyer is not the same thing and wouldn't be worth it unless her income is very high.

Congratulations. And it’s the op’s choice whether or not to hire one. Now don’t tag me again.
