I have a car, but I never drive it. Living and working in central london means it's much much easier to take public transport. Only reason I still have the car is for the weekends when i have to get out of the city!

People in the Untied States depend more on cars then people in other western countries.

Still, even in a big city with excellent public transport, owning a car or not can and usually will still be a dealbreaker. Especially if that car is a bit more exclusive and all... that is why Ferraris are golddigger magnets..

I don't know you, or your sense of humor...so please forgive me if this was sarcasm or a joke.

But if not...that's just absurd...the MAJORITY of the people in my city (NYC) do not own a car. In fact, in certain parts of the city up to 75% of people do not own a car.

Running 24/7 (including holidays) with over 450 active stations spanning over 200miles, as well as over 5000 buses and almost 300 bus lines, Path, Nausea and Westchesture (connecting counties) bus system, and a ferry, air-tran and much more--all by using one simple card.

(But wait...there more)
Not to mention all other perhaps not so public means of transportation such as LIRR, NJT, MetroNorth, Chinatown bus lines, Many more ferries---all available for the public.

I would only need one hand to count the amount of people i know around my age who even have a divers license let alone own a car. I would need more than both hands and feet to count the amount of middle age adults I know who don't have a license as well.

This would truly limit your choices on who you are willing to even date...before adding any other major possible deal breakers (such as gender or morality).

Now that I have typed all of that out--I really hope you weren't joking...in fact...if you were...just pretend you weren't please.

Color me defensive :)

Thats just 1 city in the Untied States. Sure in some huge cities you can get by fine without a car. But in many other parts of the Untied States not so much.

Which is why I did not comment on "other parts of the United States".....I commented on what was said, and I quoted it for a reference.

In the US, I guess it's pretty hard to live without a car. In Western Europe we have decent public transport if you live near a decent sized city.
Still, I'd be more friendly toward a person with no car than one who has a gas guzzling tank doing less than 35mpg.

London has excellent transport too, with various underground and bus lines and all, and yet the inner city is full with Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Bentleys Rolls Royces and Aston Martins. Even in places where there is an underground stop pretty much right in front of the main entrance. Having a car is not always about getting somewhere. As Top Gear proved: if you have a bicycle in a big city, you will be faster! It is all about status. You have a half-a-million private place in all that madness

My partner and I are car-free. It doesn't hinder our dating life--we live in downtown Portland and generally deem everything outside of the city extraneous to our functionality--but jump at the chance to go along on hikes or trips to the nicer parks with our friends. When we want to get out of the city, we're pretty limited to how much we're willing to spend on a Greyhound/Amtrak trip.

So, not a dating dealbreaker, but we're indoor folk anyway. :)

Would I refuse a woman who doesn't have a nice car or even drive? NO.
I have a nice car and prefer to walk most of the time anyway.

A show on VH1 said not having a car is a dating deal breaker. Is that true?

It sadly is true. Most women wont even talk to a man if he doesn't have a car. Unless they live in a city like New York.

I live in London, I passed my driving test first time but didn't really have a need for a car, so never bothered to get one. Parking is becoming a serious issue in London.

Plus you can have way more fun on the Tube, I once got a bit drunk and spent the next two hours falling a asleep repeatedly and missing my stop, I visited both ends of the central line and actually managed to get further away from home than when I started.

The tube stopped for the night but I was still able to get home using buses.

Ive done this way more times then I would ever like to admit

Yes, for the girl it would be - at least where I am from (California). Now, if you got a DUI or something, you might get a pass if you really have something to offer.
Just my $.02!

Never been a problem for me
But seriously, just be honest and upfront about it and if the relationship was really meant to be, so what if you can't see them every single day? I've dated men in different cities without a car and the anticipation really makes seeing each other again special.
Sometimes its not a problem, it just depends on the person.

Plus European countries have rail systems for long trips as well.

I've always had a car myself. No dates have asked if I had a car and in most cases they would not of known until we started dating. I kinda feel if a car is required for a relationship then that partner is needy and it would make me less likely to want to date them.
