Re: Interesting/funny/mentally-challenged article on face ta

I dunno, maybe its because of where I live or the kind of music Im into but I know a handful of men and women with them. A lot of tattoo artists have them.
If you don't already have a LOT of tattoos, or you're not involved in the "culture" you will be looked down on too not just by "the man". Although instead of being looked at like a criminal you'd be scoffed at and seen as a try-hard. Its easy to spot the difference between some lame crackhead/gangster/wannabe and an old punk dude, for example.

Pretty sure its never going to be "trendy" like navel rings were in the 90-00s though. Although I have seen some really nice face tattoos, obviously me and 90% of other people don't want one.

So basically... everything that tattoo artist guy said was pretty spot on.

I think, as I'm sure most do, that tattoos as a whole are that persons business, you're right tho where some people get them solely to be seen as someone who has them, and that's near the top of my list of things that make me cringe. I used to do tattoos and piercings, so I know quite a few people with face tattoos, to be honest I really don't tend to notice them on people, or just tattoos in general I guess. My brain views it as just how a certain person looks as if it were part of them just like a freckle or birthmark. I personally dont understand why one would want to do so, but at the same time I'm quite aware that many people don't see why I would cover other parta of my body with them either. To each their own. We all make our decisions on life and have to accept the effects those have on us be it by how we will be viewed by some people and how we view ourselves in light of those choices. Although the argument could be the same for any placement of a tattoo, my friend did say something a while back that made me laugh and stuck with me. He said "why would you get a tattoo on your face? I mean, no one else has your face. It's not like you need to personalize it to set yourself apart". Just figured I would share. Apologise if this ramble made no sense. I swear I'm actually quite smart at times.. I've just had no sleep. Haha.

Acceptable how? For a Maori? Sure. For someone just ripping off Maori culture? Not so much.

i didn't say for just anyone. maybe I should have.
They did (I think) make a brief reference to the Maori belief of tattoos being a new start or something, and not to split hairs but its Polynesian culture in general (of which Maori are a part), and some of those guys pictured were definitely of Maori or South-Sea Islander descent (Jaques Teamo), but Australia doesn't have the Maori culture that New Zealand does so it is indeed partly a bit beside the point - even Maori 1%ers getting face tattoos for any other reason than their own cultural heritage would be pretty much cultural self-appropriation I suppose.

BTW, if anyone wants to see some badass Maori face tattoos watch 'Once Were Warriors'.
