I’m a web/app developer and entrepreneur interesting in creating something helpful for the camming community. My previous idea was....well, very misguided and complete disaster as you can read for yourself :blackeye:

I’d appreciate you answering a question to help me understand your needs better and come up with a new idea to work on.

Here is the question:

If you could wave your magic camgirl/camguy wand and change anything about camming what would it be?

Or if you have a specific idea you really wish someone would build, that would also be helpful to hear!

Thanks!
Steve

Posted it in that thread but i'll post it here too just to give other cammers a heads up. Good day sir!

And there it is. Always the same. Keep notes here ladies and gents who cam. You will see it time and time again. It's a pattern by people who want in on your game and hard earned money. Dont fall for it. The first idea is a failure no one would want so they try to turn it into something else. Bait and switch kinda deal. Still a scam though every time. Here we have the classic switch to starting a new thread of asking for help for an idea of something we would want in a transparent attempt to get your money. Keep your wits about you and do not give them anything. They will again just use key buzzwords and phrases like "help me help you," "lets do this together," "free trial," and so on.

Sorry Steve I will not give you ideas. Immerse yourself in this business and get to know it inside and out. Know the RULES and follow them of the sites. Figure out something new and innovative that this business is lacking and create it. Earn it and the only way you do that is by putting in the time, effort, and work yourself. We are not here to give you ideas to get you money out of our pockets. That's ridiculous to expect from other people frankly and again just shows who you are and what your true intentions are here. You want anyone to have a different view of you and who you are then actually prove it and the way to do that is not asking for us to come up with ideas for you. Nor is it by saying things like "could potentially get banned" or "perceived that I was trying to take advantage" cause it would get anyone banned and you know and were told that and it's not a perception we have but what you are actually trying to do. Own up to your shit man at the very least. You are clearly trying to come up with something we would pay you for.

Teagan, that why I linked to the thread in my post so that others would be aware as well. Nothing to hide here.

I'd get rid of all the assholes trying to make a buck off MY hard work.
Oh the irony :)

But in all seriousness, you'd get rid of all the camming sites? They take at least 50% of your money. You'd prefer to setup an independent site? But you'd have to pay to a hosting company and billing etc. some of your hard earned money.

Ultimately, in business we need to work with others. We all have our skills. I enjoy building websites/apps/software, and I hope the camming community will benefit.

If developers don't know what problems you want fixed then there won't be any innovation. Are you saying your 100% satisfied with the status quo? Chaturbate/MFC as it stands now for the next 50 years would be awesome? We can try and guess but sometimes that goes horribly wrong ;)

I'd get rid of all the assholes trying to make a buck off MY hard work.
Let's assume that genuine business partners making money with you isn't the problem and that the "assholes" are the real problem. Let's work to fix that. What about n website with a list of known service providers and their reputations and reviews? I created a review site a few years ago for an industry that was similarly plagued with scams and it was very successful. I think there might already be some adult industry site like this, but nothing camming specific that I know of.

One problem is that websites can't always be trusted as their owners have biases and can be paid-off, so something more independent and incorruptible would be better. It's a challenge for sure. Off the top of my head there is some new blockchain technology (like Bitcoin) that doesn't have any central administration and could be used. The names and reputations would be stored in the "cloud" so to speak, without ownership by anyone. I'll give it some thought.

How ironic would it be if your suggestion resulted in me building something to keep "assholes" away :)

Steve

My post, in fact, was about twitter "promoters", affiliate members who steal our images to catfish guys on dating sites, and cappers who upload our shows and charge for them. But congrats, you're on the list now.
Ultimately, in business we need to work with others.
Yeah, but I sure as fuck don't need to work with some smarmy asshole like you. I'll stick with networking with fellow sex workers and people already established in the industry.
Also, not all sites take 50% or more. CamModelDirectory, Clips4Sale, iWantClips... those all take a smaller percentage for incredibly useful services such as secure payment processing.

ETA: And if your "oh the irony" comment was intended in a demeaning way as to say models don't work hard...you're not going to last long in this industry.

I thought you were familiar with my other thread before your post, so I was acknowledging the irony. I thought you were taking about "assholes" like me :)

I've read a lot of posts in this and other camming forums and I have a lot of respect and understanding of how hard a job it is. That's actually why I was trying to create a system that would help get unknown girls noticed. It was in no way meant to be demeaning. If you see any of my other posts hopefully you'll see I'm nothing but respectful (despite others calling me names).

Steve

If you build it, will you go away too? Or...? heh

There's already a few tumblrs that are blacklists for sites/clients/assholes in our industry, we have plenty of communication with each other when someone rubs us the wrong way. we have lots of, sex worker run, resources.
(Like this site, for example)

Why would we spend time explaining our needs to you when we have our own deep understandings that outsiders can't possibly understand, just from us talking to you? We cannot properly convey our needs to a civilian that hasn't been involved in the actual work.

My boyfriend is a programmer/developer, he watched me on cam for 1.5 years before we met, and we've been together for over a year, he's very knowledgeable/aware of all sides of the camming world, and he still wouldn't some into our community wanting models to educate him on their needs so he could help them, for future profit.

No, he wouldn't even come into this community offering something for free to help.
BUT! If I asked him to help work with this forum to develop something for us because we have an idea?
He'd be so down! But we would reach out first. WE. WOULD. REACH OUT. and find someone skilled and ESTABLISHED somehow within the industry.

We're not buying what you're selling.

Thanks Emma, that summed it up very well. I wished I'd known this weeks ago. And it probably exactly what I needed to understand for me to give up on this industry and go somewhere else. It's a shame, but I completely understand it. Despite what others might believe, I tried my best to follow the rules and help but it doesn't seem like that's possible. Fair enough.

In most non-tech industries I've worked with (education and medicine for example) outsiders with technical skills regularly ask questions to understand the needs of that community so they can develop products/services. In fact, most communities would welcome people with strong technical skills with open arms that want to improve things.

I'll stick around to answer any questions or follow-up, but you can all be assured that I've taken my lumps and I'll leave you be. Let this server as a lesson for any other tech minded individual that tries to venture into these waters.

Ladies and gentlemen we have a bitcoin mention. Nuff said.
In 2015 so far over $1 billion dollars has been invested in blockchain technology. Bitcoin the currency has a market capitalization (worth) of $5 billion today. For comparison, the adult cam business is about a $1 billion dollar industry per year.

But ya, I hear you. I know the promises of bitcoin to revolutionize the adult payment industry.

Teagan, I'm happy that I can at least provide some entertainment for you :)

Create an app comparable to Snapchat that allows porn & selling of your username. Make sure it doesn't auto-sync with phone contacts or add location services.

Build a low fee payment processor that can be used to camming/"adult transactions" and isn't limited to certain countries (as in, just the States).

Those are my two ideas and things I'd like to see, no idea how either is feasible. Also we have heard the bitcoin thing a million times, it's never gone well, and the models who want to use bitcoin do so on their own. I wouldn't mind sites integrating it as a payment option but every time someone starts on bitcoin here it ends in flames.

Steve, check out all the existing Apps and Bots on Chaturbate. That will give you an idea of what is and is not popular.

They are all free. Some are awesome and some are nearly awesome, their only fault being occasional failure. For me, failure once means I will not use it again.

EDIT: Incidentally, CB accepted bitcoin for a while but it didn't last long.

Right? There are soooo many tools that we need and everyone insists on trying to sell us bullshit.

You make a snapchat alternative designed specifically for anonymous secure adult photo swapping; you'd have plenty of people interested.

Youre saying you tried your best to follow the rules while simultaneously trying to actually skirt CBs rules they have in place by cheating their system....dude, who you think you're fooling? That's advantage taking and cheating at best. All this while in the other thread you try calling yourself honest and responsible. No. An honest person wouldnt try to come up with a cheat system AND try to make money off of it putting peoples jobs and livelihoods at risk man. Also someone who is responsible would have done their research into the business they are trying to get into BEFORE putting money down and time into it. That's like business 101. So not only are you not honest, or responsible, you also have no business sense so no one in their right mind would trust going into business with you ever.

Also you talk about your web skills of as if it's some rare thing to find. It's not. We all could probably play the game 6 Degrees of Separation and probably stop at step 3 before we hit a developer. A lot of the girls here actually already run their own sites themselves or we have companies dedicated to doing it for us too. You're not looking at a tech challenged community, our jobs literally require us to be from the start. We do work online after all.

And just to clear it up im not skeptical of you...I just completely see right through you. After 6 years in this business personally I can spot a scammer within minutes and it's exactly what you are. You obviously are trying to portray yourself as something different with your help me help you words but it's not working cause you're contradicting yourself repeatedly.

Given Emma's comments and my experience so far I'm not sure I'll pursue any ideas in this industry, but I do appreciate the suggestion. If someone else does choose to develop them then it would be helpful to the community.

Awesome idea! With SnapChat's recent changes that makes a lot sense. What about adding some type of payment system to it as well?

Build a low fee payment processor that can be used to camming/"adult transactions" and isn't limited to certain countries (as in, just the States).
Makes a lot of sense, but I feel like it's probably that way for a reason. Not to mention outside of my realm of understanding. Although, apparently that hasn't stop be before! ;)

Also we have heard the bitcoin thing a million times,
I meant the underlying technology that bitcoin uses, which is blockchains. It can be used for things other than currency, like a reputation system for example.

But thanks, good to know, I'll avoid talking about bitcoin.

check out all the existing Apps and Bots on Chaturbate. That will give you an idea of what is and is not popular.
Thanks. My understanding is that they are all free and it's not possible to charge fees or make money off the apps/bots. I'll look into it. Thanks.

I get 50%. The majority of models get 50%.

Whatever the case, the percentage at least makes some kind of sense. The sites offer us valuable tools to work with: a platform to perform, paying traffic, taking care of charge backs, etc.

Does not even compare to a random guy (with little to no knowledge of the industry), approaching cam models by saying, "Hey, tell me how I can make money off what you do?"

Nice try though, Steve.

Right, there is the misconception!

You get $0.05 per token. But how much did a member pay for a token? It's rarely $0.10, even a newly signed up member can buy 550 tokens for $49.99, that's $0.09 per token and establish members can bulk buy tokens for less then $0.08 each.

See http://wiki.myfreecams.com/wiki/Payment_Information_for_Models#Payout_percentage

Screen Shot 2015-11-19 at 18.52.07.png

So for a 7575 token package a member pays $599.99, model then gets 0.05 for each of the 7575 tokens; totalling $378.75. 378.75/599.99 is 63.126%. Models get over 63% in this case.

I think @Puffin is reffering to the token packages

900 Tokens for $74.99 (~$0.08 per token)
we tend to think 900 tokens ~ 90.00$ we make 45.00

but most guys are only paying 74.99 and we get 45.00

amirite ?

I think what @RebeccaT is saying is that we get 50% of what is TIPPED to us because we have no idea how much you bought your tokens for. Yeah we could get 60%+ of YOUR tokens... but overall once a token is tipped to us, we walk away with exactly half of it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong :)

If a member pays .079 cents and we get .05 cents then we are getting more than half. If they pay .10 cents and we get .05 then it's exactly half. We always get the same but what the member pays for that changes. Either way though it doesnt matter. We get minimum 50%.

@Teagan - exactly my point. Since we don't know what they pay for it, the actual % doesn't matter because we always get half of whats tipped. As opposed to other sites where you actually get 55% or 65% of whats tipped to you.
No. You get at least half of what's tipped or more on MFC. No you dont know what a member paid so you dont know the exact percentage but it starts at at least 50% our take. Its always the same 5 cents to us but the percentage when talking about our cut does change depending on the package bought. That percentage does not effect us but the members. So we are not always getting half but we are always getting at least half.

No. If you are tipped a token, you get 100% of it. You get it all. A token is a nickel, you get a nickel.

Either you think of it as what percentage of the MEMBERS money do i get, which is then over 61% on average. Or you think of it as what percentage of a token do i get once it is tipped to me. Then it is 100%.

Once I as a member tip you a token, MFC no longer takes jack shit out of that. They give you 100% of that token. I tip you a nickel, they give you a nickel. There is nothing taken out ever again, period, nada, none. You get it all. Finito. End of story.

I don't really think of it like that. But regardless we all come up with the same answer to how much a model gets (in $$) and thats all that matters to me... :) lol

Think of it in different terms unrelated to camming. Let's say you wanted to go to some concert event and you have to buy tickets through Ticketmaster.com.

The concert costs $30 a ticket. But Ticketmaster then charges building facility charge, processing fee, service fee and convenience fee. Those extra fees come to $19.50. Your total cost is now $49.50.

The artist is only getting 60.6% ($30 divided by $49.50) of what you gave Ticketmaster. Did they rip off the artist, did they take money away from him and only give him 61% of his money? No. They gave him 100% of his money. Everything he was asking for completely. Ticketmaster however did charge an extra fee to you to handle the transaction.

You are the artist, mfc is Ticketmaster. MFC took nothing away from you, they gave you the full asking price you were promised when I tipped you. They however charged ME an extra fee to handle that transaction. You got 100% of the money that I tipped you.

That is how you should be thinking of it. MFC (or any other camsite) doesn't keep any of your money. They charge extra to the members.
