Howdy all,
Despite the 'headliner' of this bill *ostensibly* being something we all agree with (I'd venture to say nobody is cool with sex trafficking!), like all bills, a plethora of little tidbits were thrown in that have turned our industry upside down. Once again, a good cause has been abused as a vehicle for instituting multiple agendas/vendettas against the adult industry. Unsurprising, but disconcerting nonetheless.
This sort of thing has happened before - we face an unprecedented amount of stigma and unfair practices in our industry. Compared to many of you, I am still a newcomer to the industry, so this is really my 'first' hands-on experience with watching my livelihood come under fire by way of yet another means.
Thus, I want to be educated about this as much as possible. I'd like to hear how the bill has affected each of you so we can all better understand the myriad of ways in which FOSTA-SESTA has hurt our respective businesses.
For me, I've already experienced a few issues. Some sites I used for promotion have banned me because they are afraid of the litigation that could follow by allowing posting by members with pay-to-view sites (understandable - not the fault of the sites in question). These sites were pretty instrumental in my networking.
Twitter is looking scarier by the day. A lot of models now avoid any sex-related tags which could be immensely useful in promotion, networking, and outreach. I've seen dozens of models shadow-banned or completely 'disappeared' in the last week alone. I feel that a new 'culture of bypassing' could emerge in the adult sector of social media - this means less concise and clear information.
I've been on hiatus from camming (while all this stuff went down, coincidentally) and am a bit curious about how things might be different when I return later this week. We'll see.
Anyway, I'd like to hear from y'all. How has this affected you personally?
