When I first found MFC, camming was technically illegal in Ukraine. The studios paid bribes to the police to keep in operation and independents were occasionally locked up. But then came the Maidan and some of the corruption was cleared up. I haven't heard anything about cam girl status there in a while. Does anybody know what the legal status of models is now?

I would like some more feedback on this as well. It seems what was reported, has had no effect on the industry, but who knows what in the works to follow up.

  • Sorry to hear that.

General rule of thumb for Eastern European studios. Whatever they say, the opposite will be the truth. There will be exceptions and studios that are legit but generally everything they tell you are lies.

I saw several news reports in 2013 or 2014 about studios getting raided in Ukraine and models going to jail. Ukraine is notorious for corruption among law enforcement. Significant in the news reports was the fact that studio managers were seldom, if ever, arrested. The raids and arrests were usually an effort to strong arm studios into paying higher bribes. Studios reportedly also turned in girls who were working independently, reducing the competition.

One of my favorites in Ukraine works at a studio that uses a VPN to hide their IP address. It causes huge lag, even when we have Skype. So annoying

Lots and lots of rumours about Eastern European cam studios. It's really hard to get any facts as it's a very gray area of camming.
https://www.ambercutie.com/forums/threads/life-of-a-webcam-model-in-a-romanian-studio.1212/ This is still quite interesting to read.

From my own experience as a former studio girl, the not legit studios all have a big weak spot and that's income taxes. So if raids happen I'm quite certain it will be due to not paying taxes. I can't imagine girls working there being imprisoned, maybe for questioning but that should be it.
VPN might be necessary, because some camsites block ip addresses from areas or countries or have exclusive regional contracts with a studio, meaning all performers with an ip address from certain regions are automatically added to the studio that has an exclusive contract for that region. Even if she signed up independently. her earning will still go to the studio.

Hard to tell from a member's site how the conditions are in a specific studio. The fluctuation of girls should be a pretty good indicator. If fluctuation is high and girls leave very quickly again, there should be something fishy going on there and it's a place to better avoid as a member. In my former studio fluctuation was very, very high. Only a small number of girls stayed for more than a month (minimum contract length).
