Personally, I've never tipped to be on a friends list but I don't resent models charging for it - if someone will pay to annoy you until you have to cut them off, go for it :-D
As already noted above by several people, "mfc friend" is even less like a real-world friend than even a facebook friend - they might all be your friends on some level or other, but how many of them would let you sleep on their couch for a week or two when you need a bed? I've gotten to know a lot of models and members on here and I'm friendly with most of them and I do feel closer to some than to others, but considering the fact we're interacting at their work (or in their perving time for members), it's quite a stretch to say many of them are actual friends.(Not to say that we aren't or might not be one day, just that friendships have to develop naturally over time. I am quite fond of a lot of people both from here and mfc, but netfriends tend to come and go,moreso than real-world ones).
And on the slightly OT topic, I mostly use pm 's with models who I'm friendly with to keep personal conversations out of main chat -eg, if their daughter was away and I want to ask how they're feeling or somesuch without letting the whole room know.
Also for occasional "helpful" tips - either tech troubles like bad sound or cam etc or just in case they care about a typo in their topic (hence the quotes around "helpful"
).
It's just shit terminology that helps build the MFC's sense of "community", but it's hard to think of a good alternative word; acquaintances is rather cold and formal, marks/suckers might be appropriate for some but is still a bit harsh.
