This is why Obamacare is bullshit. Not because the Republicans have it right with Capitalist health care, but because what Obamacare SHOULD have been is what they have over in the UK. I like that setup. A base level of care for every person in the country, and then if you want to you can choose to go above and beyond and pay for the private expensive health care.

I agree, but such a system was not possible to get passed. Obamacare is something that can be built on, modified and made to work better. What it is now, is still better than before, if only because of some of the nice features like no preexisting conditions to prevent you from getting health insurance.

i agree with bawksy about 99 percent. the only caveat i would want added to the system would be some kind of implementation of system wide triage. as impossible as that really is (way too complex to figure out who gets front of line with diagnostics specifically). the big failing of socialized health care is that things slip through the cracks with the waiting for advanced diagnostic tools. mind you with free market health care more people slip through just because they arent wealthy enough to afford whatever kind of scans, tests etc they and their doctor want.

i can say that there is some help available here in the states with health care, but its hard to get and rather pitiful in its funding most places. in my mind healthcare, sanitation and education are the three cornerstones of civilization that should be readily available to all. not only that they should be either free, or publicly funded (whichever way you want to look at it since someone pays for it regardless of the system).

You may not want the UK's version of healthcare as it is currently under great strain right now due to the rising population of older people that need and seek out that basic care because they cannot afford (or are not willing to purchase) supplemental insurance.

The first of the boomers are just hitting 65 so while their income tax "donations" lessen their need for the same tax funded healthcare increases over the time and lets face it the majority of the boomers have not compiled (or have lost) any retirement savings they have. With the average age of life for people constantly going up these boomers will need basic care longer.

I live in Canada and this is a serious issue for an already strained healthcare system.

I hate to say it but Obamacare might end up working out for US citizens in the long term better than tax funded/supplemented healthcare.

Obamacare will not work. It's already started to make things worse before it's even started. Companies all over this country are already cutting back hours of each employee to less than 25 per week so they don't have to pay the stupid health insurance. So now the employee doesn't have insurance from work, has less money coming in and is going to be fined by the Govt. unless it's paid for by themselves with the less money they have.

My brother works as a vendor for a company that has him working in walmarts in his area. The company reduced it's 7000 employees to less than 25 hours and just hired more part timers to fill in the gaps. The college I go to, like many others around the country, are starting to cut back professors hours so they don't have to pay. That PHD they worked so hard for? Yeah has way less earning power now. This is happening across the board in this country now.

The only thing it's going to do is depress the economy even more than before.

ANYTIME the government steps in for any reason whatsoever it fucks things up worse than before. Without exception.

I don't think this travesty gets the attention it deserves. Not surprising, I suppose, since 70% of the prison population is not white and "who cares about criminals"? Here is an example of what can and has happened when certain industries or institutions are turned over to the private sector, profit or not for profit.

Judge that sold children to prison only gets 28 years.
