I have two different views on this subject.

The first is that camgirls should do whatever makes them feel comfortable. If they want to wear makeup or not, that's up to them and their style.

The second is that something can be said for camgirls who do always wear makeup. That are always going that extra mile to look good and put in that effort.

I'm a "I wear makeup because I want to" kind of person. So if I'm not feeling it, I find it hard to want to sit there and put it on. I'm not afraid of sharing my natural face.

I wanted to seek the opinions of others, both models and members. I know that everyone has their 'preference' though.

Sometimes a girl feels sexy and horny and wants to do a random extra camshow, photoset, or video. But if you wait and spend time doing your makeup, that feeling is gonna be gone XD

For a job that’s based heavily on appearance, its smart to care what others think of your appearance.

Some girls do better with a full face, some with a light face, generally speaking I’d say being consistent with one or the other is usually smart. For example, Austin white (does she still cam?) always had beautiful vintage looking lingerie complete with immaculate hair and makeup. An occasional no makeup, lounging in Jammie’s show might be a good treat for her fans, but they generally expected that she’d be on in her full outfits and so if you never knew whether she’d be a dolled up vixen or a girl next door, it’s harder to build a persona and a fan base.

I wouldn’t cam without makeup because I look washed out and tired. I generally have a fairly light makeup look (no false eyelashes or whatever), but also keep in mind that light makeup gives a “no makeup” look on cam. What feels like heavy makeup to me translates to a fairly standard look on cam.

That's not to say that if people comment that they would prefer you with a different hair color, or more tattoos, or a boob job that you should care. That's extra shit.

But to always have yourself relatively "put together" whether that means having your hair curled perfect with flawless winged liner, or to have your hair clean and brushed and a touch of concealer and mascara does a lot of good and no harm.

As Gen mentioned, a once in a while treat where your really dedicated members get to see a less polished side of you might be fun, but overall I think putting your best face forward is key.

I need makeup to look like I have features once I'm in front of my lighting. I've played around with how little I can get away with and still make money, and it boils down to: Powder, blush, mascara and waterline, and a red lip. I do NOT make money on cam unless I'm wearing a red lip, and it's annoying because I have so many lovely lipstick colors I'd love to play around with, everything from corals and pinks to purple and teal.

I don't do any contouring or particularly advanced techniques, and wearing a wig is just such a blessing in disguise because it saves time from having to fix the mess already on my head. I want to convey the look that would attract viewers I might get along with, but I also have to look at my own cam-feed. Be the porn you would want to see, yanno?

Alright, so obviously I'm not a girl but let me give my opinion on this haha.

I am the same way.
I'm a straight male, but know that my audience is primarily gay men.

I know sometimes that I can do extra things like wear a tight shirt, or put gel on my hair to look more 'dreamy,' but I decide not to if I'm not feeling it.

There's no better feeling than when you know that you didn't do anything you didn't want to, and people are still showing you love.

In short, there's no better feeling than people liking you for who you are at that very moment.

From perspective that camming is my job, and I like to get money for it, I will agree with Gen's words. Especially these:

People may love me with or without make up. But I'm interested in making them actually want me, not just hang out with me and talk about comics and movies.
So my make up depends on my mood, sometimes it's just eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss, sometimes it's full make up look.
After many years of finding my way to cam I prefer to put at least a little on, even if I'm lazy.

About red lipstick - I use it a lot for clip making, but I can't wear it on cam. I don't know why, but I never make money with red lips.

Agreed. I think the question can be read two ways with the emphasis on either SHOULD or on ALWAYS.

In an effort to answer the consistency slant, we all know consistency is an invaluable tool as a webcam model. I think doing something slightly different sometimes is exciting for your members and something to market. A nude & natural show for example can be one of those things.

I don't think I'd ever sign on without a full face regime of toner, moisture, powder, etc, but I make equal money on the days my hair and eye makeup are done as to days they are not... IF it is not already packed and busy on the site(s). My biggest thing is working Sat?SUN/late late nights/early morning, regardless of what I look like. Just like in real time, face to face life, I find some dudes are intimidated by all the glitz and the glam and want a simpleton sometimes, whereas others want the fresh to death painted up diva. I like to be myself, which is consistently inconsistent, on cam.

To clarify - I agree a camgirl should do whatever she wants. But, if she wants to make money, she should be mindful of how she’s presenting herself. Most of us won’t make $$ showing up with bedhead, undereye bags, and stained grey sweatpants. If you do, props. If you don’t, consider that you chose a job where you’re selling your sexuality and sex appeal so playing that up, in a way of your choosing, is smart.

Camgirls are obviously welcome to do whatever they want and should, but it’s smart to consider balancing your own desires with business smarts. Same reason I smile and am polite to colleagues at my vanilla job even when I’m in a bad mood, because I want to make money and maintain a good reputation. I think this is a normal part of business in every industry.

I have only started to really enjoy wearing make-up the past 5ish years of my life. Before then I really couldn't be bothered, probably because I wasn't very good at applying it (imo) and was relatively poor. Thank goodness for YouTube. Watching beauty bloggers and reviews has really helped me out.

I think consistency on cam with make-up, if you choose to wear it, is pretty vital. I wish I followed this advice more but my artist and exploratory side has wanted to experiment more and more the past year as I have gotten better at it. I'd say half that time I use very minimal make-up but enough to have me look pulled together and not washed out from the lights. The other half of the time I like to use fun colors around my eyes specifically or wear vivd lipstick. I always get positive comments when I do go a little crazy with my make-up but sometimes I wonder if the contrast between very light make-up and 'fun' make-up hurts me. I also do full body paint looks, so when I start those I am totally make-up free and then look pretty nuts/bad the first 3 hours or so. There is a SHARP decrease in viewers from when I start make-up free (pretty ok viewer numbers) to during the time I have relatively fucked up looking paint all over my face/neck without the final touches.

Personally for myself, yes, it's extremely important to look put together with a full face of makeup. I charge on the higher end on streamate, and I'm fairly certain no one would pay my rates if I logged on with zero makeup, messy hair, etc unless it's one of my regulars that takes me excl just to chat.

Some days I wear a little less makeup than others but I still usually have at least some powder, brows and mascara at the very bare minimum. 95% of the time it's a full face of foundation, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, brows, etc though.

I put a lot of effort into my aesthetic (hair, face, background, lighting, etc) and I've seen the pay off and it's what works for me.

But I mean to the girls who can get away with no makeup, etc, props to them, that's awesome for them. I just don't think it would work for me personally on SM.

Before I had my breast augmentation, I was wearing full on full makeup, went to the hairdresser every third day etc. etc. Now...Sometimes I show my face sometimes I don't, most of the times I don't. I do my hairs always, because that is super important, the hair. Makeup: I just put some lipgloss, mascara and do my eyebrows.. It's very rare when I do a full face nowadays. But I remember it was just an hour to do my makeup to the perfection 2 years ago... The funny thing is I wear makeup for going out, always. I am very lucky to have naturally almost flawless skin, but I need to draw my brows (i learnt to be a makeup artist but i never worked in it. )

Okay and for this I will get a lot of bad responses. But some models have a body that can kill, but the face.. no makeup can fix it. I don't say name, but I know in real a very famous CB model has a perfect body but the face... so yes sometimes better hide it, and most men do not even require it, I noticed since I don't show my face that they like to just imagine it. I think on the viewer side you would find opinions vary a lot. That is one point in favor of consistency. However in general I think you would find many more would be in favor of light or no make up. Taking care in your appearance is a must obviously to make money and each model has different assets to work with. But think of it this way. Most customers don't want to think you are somebody totally different under the make up. Natural is sexy but everyone has things they wish to enhance or conceal. I think using whatever amount of make up that makes you comfortable is slightly more important than your physical appearance. You can't hide much from the camera anyway so feeling sexy is a bigger turn on than being perfect. Besides, the nature of the job can ruin hours of make up. I guess my opinion would be use it in most cases but don't obsess over it.

There are models who can get away with it- like those who are using their bodies primarily like how @ViviDoll mentioned. Male models also don't have the expectation of wearing makeup (I wonder how many do on cam, though...)

While maybe not TRULY makeup-less, a no-makeup look can enhance "youthfulness". If a girl wants to have an image evocative of a teen, less is best. I think also no-makeup indicates an authentic "amateur" "exhibitionist" "voyeur" etc... (regardless of actual camming experience) which DEFINITELY has an appeal. (Granted, these examples can still wear loads of make-up... I can't even tell, LOL)

I agree, you can slant your look, your show, everything you do towards getting you the type of shows you want. That is a consideration in choosing how you prepare. Hopefully it isn't a burn out slowest thing though and more of a stay happy in my job thing.

Burn out happens in almost every career and job every once in a while no matter how much you love it. It doesn't mean you don't enjoy it, just means you gotta change things up every once in a while or take a step back.

I made a post on Twitter and Tumblr recently, saying how much I wish fat models didn't have to wear makeup and do up their appearance to earn the bare minimum of respect. If we wear our hair in a messy bun, no makeup, we're seen as lazy etc etc. 300+ people have agreed so far and it's heartbreaking. Even those that said they can get by without it (and generally have full eyelashes, nice brows, clear skin, etc), have agreed that it's hard on other fat models.

I'd be able to get on cam/film daily if I didn't have to spend 1-3 hours on my makeup & hair. I just don't have the energy (yay chronic illnesses) to do all that and then spend the other 3 hours I have left home alone, trying to film.

I wish to HELL I could pull off a no makeup look but if I don't at least have eyebrows, winged liner, mascara, eyeshadow on, I look dead. I have sensitive skin so redness/uneven tone doesn't help, but I can't wear many face products because my face loves to sweat and produce so much oil I'm constantly scared the US is gonna invade NZ just to mine my face. Parts of my face also refuse to accept foundation/concealer and just look terrible.
